  1. Maybe I'm not understanding the context of this statement, but the idea of storing luck isn't something that was made up in this thread - it's a power of feruchemy that is already confirmed. http://stormlightarchive.com/images/wallpapers/feruchemical_table_1920x1080.jpg It's on the left hand side of the table, the "spiritual" box
  2. I'm exactly the same except I have always pronounced Aiel (Eye-eel). You're scaring me a little, because I thought (Egween) was the right pronunciation...... Yeah, I never want to fix that.
  3. Thanks! Made this months ago, it could use the update.
  4. I have these saved on a personal blog. I'd say we can also add that the Shard of Dragonsteel is Adonalsium himself, as he is not shattered at the time of the books. Don't know what is there now though. 5. EVERYONE has trouble with Nynaeve, Everyone. My brain dyslex'd it so hard I was saying (Ny-nuh-vee). It was pretty bad. But all my friends had even more messed up versions, so it was OK. Since then I have corrected it in my mind and I'm actually much happier with the 2 syllable, correct version.
  6. That's been such a relief. I remember reading the Wheel of TIme and then finding out that the Glossary (?) in the back had pronunciations. It was pretty far off from what I had been thinking in my head. My friends who read WoT have very unique pronunciations too that I just let slide.
  7. That and Kvothe describes how to pronounce his name toward the beginning of Name of the Wind.
  8. Probably for several reasons, but I imagine one of them is that Sanderson and Rothfuss do things together and fans of one end up reading something from the other. That's how I picked up Name of the Wind. Came right to this thread.
  9. For me it's about constantly reminding myself that I don't know any of it for certain. I have theories that I like, but none that I go into the book thinking "I'm just looking for any clues to X,Y, and Z." The only time that theorizing effects me is when we have been talking for a long time about a certain subject, going over several possibilities in every possible detail, and then there is nearly no mention of it at all in the book. This has happened to me in 3 series that I've spent a lot of time on - Harry Potter, Wheel of Time, and Stormlight Archive. For example, there are nearly 0 mentions of Cultivation in Words of Radiance. The best we can do is assume that the Nightwatcher is Cultivation, or something like that, but it hasn't been made known and she is virtually nonexistent. There was hardly mention of the Nightwatcher this book too. When Cultivation is one of 2 "gods" on a planet, you end up including her in a lot of theories. When she hardly comes up at all, it kind of leaves me deflated a little bit. On the other hand, I know Brandon can reveal something huge, like certain Ideals allowing spren to turn in to Shardblades, which we had called, and then turn around and in just a couple more pages reveal that they can turn into any weapon in an instant. That's something that we had forecast happening between books 3 and 5. Boom. Right there on the paper. So it's not all disappointment; he definitely keeps me surprised enough. EDIT: Oh man. This thread just has me thinking about the summer before Half Blood Prince came out. There were so many theories that people went into deep deep detail on. Didn't see a single one with the correct answer. Absolutely none. That was such a great summer.
  10. Unfortunately the Wandering Shard has never been to Roshar, but that doesn't mean he's not a good candidate for the general idea, ya know?
  11. That's exactly what I said. No other Shard has visited the planet, but there may be objects/creations of other Shards on the planet. But A) I don't think there is a Shard out there making huge groups of Worldhoppers to go colonize the planets of other Shards, and I think that much involvement on the planet would be overkill unless the Shard were present or had visited.
  12. Now that I think on it, this sounds like it would be a potential Mistborn Trilogy 3 sort of deal. Hoid hates Odium, Braize is Odium's home, Mistborn 3 is future space travel with Hoid as a main character..... Whabam. Hoid on Braize in one of the biggest Cosmere-relevant moments ever. The biggest RAFO.
  13. All I know is that people have historically done some pretty stupid stuff when they thought the world was ending, which you could say is Szeth's equivalent to being Truthless. Isn't Szeth's big thing that he was lied to by the stone shamans and that he was actually right about something, but his believing them is what causes him to be Truthless? If he had confidence he wouldn't have gone along with that whole thing, yadda yadda.... Man, what a freakin mess he is. Hope this all gets cleared up in the next book. It kind of goes along with one of my theories that the primary divine attribute is something that attracts the spren to a person, and the secondary attribute is what they grow in along the way / improve upon. This could be how Szeth turns up his confidence now that he sees he was right. Hopefully it will lead to a series of positive events for him, but it'll take a lot before I'm rooting for Szeth.
  14. I think the piece that is missing is simply that Szeth is HUGELY misled. I think that his actions are cowardly, but he is living in a different world than reality. It's hard to blame him in a lot of ways. He doesn't have all of the facts, so it's hard to gauge his actions. It allows for readers to choose empathy and see the situation from Szeth's understanding, or to choose a more third party perspective and analyze his actions based from the outside. He's quite a character. To your point about him hoping he gets killed - I don't find murder-suicides to be particularly brave... I'm not sure that's the evidence I would have used.
  15. No, he is doing what he believes to be wrong out of fear that his soul will be cast off into nothingness. In no way is it noble - it's selfish, and he throws away countless lives for that alone. Basically the definition of cowardice.
  16. Pretty sure nothing officially states this. In fact, Almost everything about the TH or Damnation gets RAFO'd immediately. The quote could be taken any number of ways. Perhaps it is important because Hoid is collecting magical abilities from each of the planets (so far he has Yolen Lightweaving, Allomancy, Feruchemy, Awakening, and who knows what else) and revealing which planets he has been to could be giving away a lot about his abilities in upcoming books that could be decades away. It could also reveal secrets about the timeline of the Cosmere that we aren't supposed to know until a book is released. There are just so many possibilities because Hoid is all friggin over the place. I don't think we should focus so hard on the TH or Damnation, though that could be it. Still just a theory.
  17. I have high hopes that it will be something much darker and much more crippling. I want the University to breakdown completely if Kvothe has to leave.
  18. I think the quote is pretty clear. Only three Shards have ever existed on Roshar. The theory is still possible, I think, if Brandon is going against something he said back in 2010. That or the entire Iriali population is a group of worldhoppers from Experience's location. Also possible. This is why I wish I knew more about Shards. Technically Nightblood is an invested object from a different planet, and he is on Roshar, so that figure must not include things sent from other planets. But no Shard named Experience ever visited Roshar. And I doubt any of the Shards can just will themselves to create beings on other planets they aren't around. So either they are Worldhoppers, or this can't really be possible.
  19. Hahaha, great! I know you guys have probably had your hands full, what with all the other features, renaming the rep levels, and the influx of new members. You keep that Soon business up and I'm going to recommend you for a job at Blizzard
  20. I'm lookin' at my user profile and I see a tab for awards, but it is empty! How can this be?! I'm participating, therefore I deserve one! Haha, no but really, are these a new feature coming soon? Any chance we could get a couple examples as a preview?
  21. Really a fun idea skaa, Would certainly make an interesting story. I'm not sure it's entirely possible though. I think Brandon said that there have only ever been 3 Shards on Roshar. Pretty sure he listed them too. The idea makes me really wish I had a better understanding for what Shards are capable of. Right now I consider them nearly limitless beings except for when they tell us how they are limited / die. I need to do some research. EDIT: Found it.
  22. If you swung them fast enough....
  23. Gonna have to deny you the human child. We've already decided they are out of bounds, even as weapons. You don't think you could take on a Ball Python? They aren't very big, but I think you could handle it. For that matter, I'd put money on you against a regular sized Chihuahua as well. But what do I know. You may be a very tiny person.
