Yeah, I hope he knows that the covers have both been really great works. Like... I'm nit picking.

DING DING DING DING DING! WINNER! -
I bet Shallan just took a wild guess at what they eat. They probably do swoop in and wrap up a full bean vine.

Oh! good point on the email notifications! I don't mean any offense, but I have a spam account that would fit that need perfectly.

IIRC he was Soulcast into a delicious cobbler.

Theory: Skyeels are the Skybreakers, Order 3 of Knights Radiant. They use the Division surge to split molecules. Not WoB yet, but I'm sure it won't be long.

This is a description that Brandon gave to an artist, so Brandon is the one explaining it, and the explanation does not prove or disprove a magical element to the creature. It is based on a physical exchange, but not necessarily exclusive in dependence. Second, the page in question was designed as Shallan's assessment of the Skyeel. So all of that explanation is in character as well, which should indicate that it is open to further explanation as the character learns more or the reader learns more.

Lighter than air gas sacks would explain it pretty well. If that is the case, it's a real mystery. There is obviously a cause and effect with those pouches then, but what fuels the pouches and stuff like that is still unconfirmed. I find myself naturally hoping for the spren idea as it links the magic to the world a little more, which is one of my favorite things about the world to begin with.

I'm not sure, I've never tried an app that would work for any forum. Reddit could be considered one, but that's about all the mobile stuff I do as far as forums go.

Lots of dislike for the Hunchback of the Shattered Plains.

I know it would probably take more work than it is worth, but I would really enjoy a 17th shard mobile app. It doesn't have to do much really, I'd be happy to just get notifications to buzz on my phone. Reading the forums would help too, but personally more the notifications. Anyone here good at developing apps and have a little free time?

Reactions to Ender's Game: The Movie
Bloodfalcon replied to Shardlet's topic in Entertainment Discussion
This was my main concern. They cut out a ton of the main character by doing this. I think some focus group probably said they didn't like the main character after he killed someone and so they rewrote it or something. Anyway, both Bonzo and the kid at the start of the book are supposed to be pretty mangled purposely. It was like they needed to lower the rating from R to PG. Of all the problems, that was the biggest. The second biggest was that Ender is not supposed to be really tight with everyone (read anyone) until pretty far into the books. He is supposed to have one or two friends for most of the story, but in the movie, every time the kid turns around, someone is smiling at him or telling him he did a good job or something. Again, it isn't supposed to be a feel-good film, but I feel like they had to turn it down 5 notches for kids. Everything being rushed was a problem that I suspected would happen, but... man I wish they had just made two movies. They piled all of the dragon army battles into one and didn't even explain the wire part, which just made them look like cheaters. And the Petra romance made me want to vomit on everyone who needs a love story in EVERY. SINGLE. MOVIE. That being said, overall, I enjoyed it, hahahahahaha! -
All I know is that eels don't naturally fly as I understand it. Gliding is one thing, but this seems to be something on a more supernatural level. Brandon tries to stay true to his world being based on scientific explanations + magic where it applies. Kaladin doesn't survive 4 story falls without spren either, but there is one there. It could be something similar where the glidy-ness of the creature attract spren that help it further. Dunno.

Thank you! They did the same thing on Amazon, but I have a B&N gift card that could not be used better!

I'd like to see it line up with all the other Cosmere lines for some event that effects all of the planets. Future Mistborn, future Elantris, future Stormlight Archive.
-
That is a cool explanation. I think it'll be like a half and half relationship between the causes of flight there. Spren and gliding on low G.

good point on the armor, but I like the colorful style of ours much better.

Wow, that seems like a pretty quick dismissal of this second draft. What, did he know it wouldn't be good enough but still finish and release it anyway?

I like this one better. Initially I thought the old one was Shallan! It's her flashback book, so I just assumed, but I had two more quick looks before I pulled it up fullscreen and figured out it was supposed to be a dude. The spear among other things should have made it obvious, but I was so excited I was hardly paying attention to that. Either way, he definitely looks a good bit more manly. Which is good. Because he is a man.

Favorite Brandon Sanderson Story

Warbreaker is one that I sometimes forget. I LOVED lightsong, but unfortunately I got the audiobook instead of reading the story first. Some audiobooks do the story justice, but the narrator of the Warbreaker audiobook was.... I don't want to be mean, but it was awful. Completely butchered Lightsong. It was like they hadn't read through their line before they started speaking. I think it says something about the strength of that character that i was able to look through that problem and still come out with a great impression. -

Yeah, I agree! There are parties that I myself throw that I would love to read through That idea helped me enjoy Elend too. And Kelsier was awesome, but I often had to remind myself that the only reason he could get away with some of those ideas was by having this crazy reputation and friends who come pre-dedicated. Didn't take away too much, but that was a tiny twitch I felt sometimes. Thought they were all above average characters. I felt a lot more invested in Stormlight Archive characters because all of those feelings were brought on by actions that appear "on screen." Dalinar comes in with this war hero reputation, and immediately loses it. But he builds a new reputation - one that can inspire believable loyalty - right in front of you. Same with Kaladin. So it is not that I dislike those FInal Empire characters, but it's the presence of that twitch feeling while reading that puts it beneath some of the other stories on Brandon's shelf. -

Totally understand, it's a good discussion. The months that they had been aware of each other had huge gaps of not seeing one another. I felt like half the times they met again, one of them was saying "I haven't seen you at a party in a while." There is something to be said for desperation in the love department that makes it more understandable, but when I put myself in the characters' shoes, it feels very hurried. I like the characters. Elend started off a little slow, and at times I thought Vin was extra... plain as a paper bag (personality-wise), but that was only scene by scene. Over the course of the trilogy that was all flattened out and they turned out great, but Final Empire seemed shaky to my eyes.
