We also have evidence of a Wind spren appearance on an Honorspren. For all we know, Ym's spren is also an Honorspren. Wyndle himself could be an honorspren. It would actually make sense if he was mentioning honorspren being more selective in a manner that was near bragging. All cryptics might fit the Cultivation side and Honorspren might fit the Honor side. There haven't been many comments that lay that out yet.
-
But that is just a feeling. We have mention from Wyndle that Honorspren and Cryptics exist and that Honorspren are picky, but I don't recall a definitive remark on them being specific to Order. Several site members have suggested that those are broader categories for some spren that might look different or act different or whatever, but still be drawn to honorable deeds.
-
? Cryptics are confirmed Lightweaver specific?

Ok, good to know things aren't so set in stone then. I had kind of gotten comfortable with our own theories I think. But the Stoneward KR is only a mismatch in certain scenarios. If you believe the Heralds are being replaced by some of our main characters, then it makes sense that they (main characters) all correspond, but that doesn't mean ALL the KR in that Order will be the same gender. It might be a top level thing... this seems like a stretch, but there are one or two points that make it a valid option.
-
I have basically come to accept it as fact at one point or another, but are we positive that only the Growth surge allows for KR to heal? Lift physically grows or accelerates growth of things. I don't remember if Wyndle expressly said that was the purpose of the Growth surge. Either way, Ym seems like the only real mismatch if that is the case

Good to know they all might work inside Shardsmithy

I don't understand this at all. Do you know somewhere I can go get an understanding of this? In Mistborn, I don't really consider all of the Allomantic skills to be particularly consistent with Preservation or preserving... I don't have a 100% grasp on that stuff though.

EASILY. I do it all the time. My job is database management. I can crank out numbers and dimensionality nearly mindlessly and still be productive. That is in the bag.

WHAT? I didn't know the audiobook would be out as well! Oh man, this book might break my bank. Already ordered the other two formats, but this would let me finish it in like 3 days! oooooohhhhhhhh man.

Stasis sounds very close to a Time surge.

No, I think you are right. In the prologue there is.... hesitant confidence that the KR can do the deed on their own. It feels half hearted. They certainly were a creation, and I don't think they were THE critical piece. It's very unclear as far as I can see. Natans is under the impression that the Heralds won't be needed for the Everstorm, but I think we are going to end up with a scenario much like the Last Battle from WoT. Everyone needs to be working together or it is just not going to happen. The Heralds are clearly important, or the idea of the Heralds is, so I really hope we see some sort of transformation that brings the old or new Heralds together as well as the KR.
-
Here is a person who is clearly thrilled with their job.

Thanks Natans! If the goal of the visions is the KR, that's great, but it isn't essential to the idea that they Heralds are a physical manifestation of the links between surges and Orders. Still possible, but you are right, it doesn't sound like the Tanavast's focus was on them.
-
I haven't put a ton of time into this idea, but my opinion on the origin of that surgebinding chart would say no, they cannot be replaced. My sense of excitement at the idea makes me want to say yes, that would be so fun. I'm not sure, but I would like that a lot if certain characters got promoted to the head of their orders. I'm referring to our main characters. We know it is possible for family members to become Heralds - it's not like it's a super random process apparently- but there is just so much that we don't know, and so much I personally have not sat down and thought out
-
This is by no means a real theory, but rather a fun thought: I think it would be an interesting plot device if, now that several of the Heralds abandoned their oaths, the Heralds are vulnerable and no longer "respawn" on Roshar. They still have very long lives, but the next time they die, they are kapput. I know there are a lot of different ideas of how the entire Order/Herald/Gem/etc. relations work, but I think it would put a really unique spin on things if their permanent death disconnected their Order from the Surgebinding chart in a way. I'm not sure which scenario I prefer, but it could mean that they cannot use abilities that are a combination of the relating to surges anymore, or something like that. This may put a lot of pressure on some capable main characters to find the Heralds and control them. It would essentially be trying to round up a group of rabid lemmings as they all run for a cliff in insanity (yes, I know the whole lemming thing isn't exactly true, but it provides an image). It wouldn't be my favorite interpenetration of the quote, but the entire "Unite them" sequence for Dalinar could relate to this urgent quest to find the Heralds and get them back on their feet. It seems like all of the Orders/Heralds will be needed for the Everstorm or whatever awaits us at the end of 10 books/years.

I agree with The Count. The idea is a good one and a mismatch shouldn't discourage it. Mistborn introduced new metals over time. Could be done here and totally drop everything into place.

Doesn't Syl basically beg Kaladin to say the words at the Tower scene?
-
Isn't it confirmed that Highstorms and that sort of thing are the effects of Shard activities? Their powers of creation could have made a planet extremely similar to Earth, put humans on it, and then their introduction of highstorms or something like that over time could cause the alien-looking planet you see. I mean TLR could just decide how close to the sun they were and things like that. I don't think we have to rely on natural evolution of particular proteins or anything considering Shardic ability to create that stuff on a whim. I know that isn't the answer to everything, but I don't think we should limit the possibilities based on what we know of our own natural world. Brandon puts a lot of science into his universe but..... magic.
-
Let me be real with you: I don't understand half of those science school words, but it does sound cool. Does it matter though? I thought that the worlds were shaped by Shards or Slivers or what have you. Don't they typically throw humans in a world first thing? I would think that even finding a world that is generally suitable, you would sometimes have to change pieces of it like oxygen or amminophosphateproteitncarbons?

He's my favorite liar -
Yeah, I understand. Having gone to school for Business Management, I had to do a lot of research on groupthink, and I think it is important for us to keep things open so that we don't get stuck in ruts. New users with different ideas are pretty valuable if they don't get bogged down in what long time users assume is right and wrong. Especially when it is a fictional world still being written. Nothing we "know" is certain as long as Brandon has the option to write in "Kaladin removed his mask and was actually Tien the whole time!!!!111!!" Hahaha, that would never happen, but the point remains that all of our evidence may be built on a foundation of lies. A good plot twist could bring it crashing down. Didn't mean to jump down your throat or anything, I just think it is really important to encourage new users to freestyle on what they interpenetrated lines from the book to mean. Light knows that on the more official, legitimate issues, you are definitely a great guidance in conversation, Aether.

But that's not the only method for theorizing. Theorizing is finding an explanation to a fact or an event. That's it. There is no need for convincing evidence when you use the fundamental definition of the word. You don't have to give the topic or post any credibility in your mind, but don't tell people how they have to speculate when they are just speculating. Forum rules don't demand us to convince anyone.

I think so too. We need more Dalinar chapters though. That dude is like info dump central for us. -
AKA Theorizing.
