Honorblades give people the power to surgebind.
Bloodfalcon replied to Scrutiny's topic in Stormlight Archive
Right, but they are the same Shardblades, technically and very literally. They glowed in the visions, then winked out, but they are the same exact blades passed down across thousands of years. There is a piece missing from them now IFF the spren thing is actually accurate. If it isn't , they are identical. I would be surprised if they were considered different types now.- 43 replies

Is it possible that the familiar but unrecognizable chart is actually the other chart? The "Voidbinding" one? (Man, we have to figure out what that is used for so I can stop calling it that.) Forgive me if I'm not catching the point, but that seemed possible to me. I take circles and lines to mean one of those two always. Also, I was thinking of the consequences of Adolin's duel and I'm really excited for it. I think Dalinar is going to recognize those signs and have something to say to Adolin about all that. I imagine after seeing how effective it is, some other duelists will attempt it. Even if only in practice, having the Thrill run wild within the camps is going to be.... problematic, I think. This may cause quite a chain of unfortunate events.

The man with Nalan at Gavilar's feast
Bloodfalcon replied to Everstorm's topic in Stormlight Archive
Like I said before, if the Heralds typically come back before every Desolation and train a large number of new Surgebinders as KR, that all fits just fine. All the KR were based out of Urithiru, so I'm sure the Heralds were not only familiar with the KR of their Order, but any random KR just as we are friends with people at work that we don't directly work with. Considering there are probably very few KR that they have trained themselves, I'd say they could be very familiar. They wouldn't necessarily have to be twisted KR in the same way, either. They are just trying to learn and do as instructed. I think the Heralds are fundamentally twisted at this point, even though their minions are not. It makes sense for it to be a Windrunner even if they are being trained by another Herald while Jez is out of commission. They are just making poor choices because they are being instructed by a coalition of lunatics. It could easily be another Herald, but it really is hard to believe "my lord's own blade" with that theory, so I prefer this one. -
I think that Shen is a spy, and that he legitimately grew to like Kaladin. I think he reported Kaladin as being one of the only humans to treat parshmen with any manner of decency. Then when Kaladin started wearing parts of dead Parshendii, he outted Kaladin as being a monster - not that they could not see for themselves... But really just because Kaladin claims they always have an understanding for who he is in particular when he goes on bridge runs. At least, I would like it to go something like that. For Shen to be a normal person observing and reporting on Kaladin's character as he changes into a better person over time. Then when Shen is outted, he can reveal himself and they can be bff's

Blade types 2 and 3 could easily be considered the same thing. That is not confirmed.- 43 replies

Nah, it doesn't mean he'd have to be anything in particular. Warriors are lowest on the totem pole, but the question was about Szeth's life before Truthlessness. I don't think the community has disrespect for warriors or anything, they are just not the top caste. Brandon was making a point that Szeth has not always been Truthless, and he wasn't always evil or anything like that either.

The man with Nalan at Gavilar's feast
Bloodfalcon replied to Everstorm's topic in Stormlight Archive
Wheee! first post! welcome! We know Nalan to have followers. Could have been any of them. People took his familiarity to mean he was a Herald, but really, if the Heralds stuck together for thousands of years, I'm sure they are familiar with more than just the 8 others with them. It could be anyone, you are right. I would still like to believe it is a Herald only because I want to keep tabs on all of them, and that is convenient. -
Honorblades give people the power to surgebind.
Bloodfalcon replied to Scrutiny's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it sounds like a great opportunity for them, actually! They realize they cannot let Gavilar live, so they send a Surgebider, one that they purposely choose not to disguise, to wreck the place and kill the king. Worst case scenario, a Surgebinder dies at the hands of the king's guard. Best case - the king dies, and Surgebinders are feared throughout the lands. Basically guaranteeing that Surgebinding will be looked at in a negative light.- 43 replies

We know Hoid has a confrontation in the Epiliogue, right? I don't think the epilogue will be the climax, but he's got other-worldly magic, so you never know. I haven't seen that WoB though. Time to hunt.

Clarification: I understand the quote you were thinking of. The character in question was indeed Dalinar, but the answer was stated to include everyone: You might be thinking that because he specifically says Dalinar's name, but that is only because he was specifically asked about Dalinar.

Nope. He just said it would be possible for that sort of thing to happen.

Jezrien, Shards, and the identity of the Broken One
Bloodfalcon replied to FirstSelector's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think he is also standing next to a big statue of himself. He could be referencing that. It would be like Brandon making a joke while revealing who the drunk guy is.- 62 replies

That's a good point, he probably wasn't a warrior before. It has long been my belief that he is a Truthless because he took the Honorblade (whether it was because of the Blade itself or because it was lodged in the stone). Your point almost supports that theory, and there could still be so so much time for him to learn if he took it when he was.. 25, even. If he killed the king when he was 31-32, that would still have him years of practice.
-
The drunk just asks "have you seen me" or something like that. Also, Szeth was a respected member of Shin society before he was truthless. He could have been a great warrior. i think we now also know him to be around 38 years old. That's like twice as old as Kaladin was when he mastered the spear. It's not hard to believe Szeth has had a lot of time over 38 years to train in any abilities.

I also agree, but it does look like it is headed down that sort of path. Something to consider though: Kaladin uses different little bindspren in his lashings. Maybe it is not necessarily the bonded spren that creates the Blade? Maybe she allows/grants the blade or something like that. Edit: It is definitely bladespren. THERE IS A SPREN IN EVERYTHING SAYS MAMA KALADIN!
-
Something to note: The gem that bonded the Shardblade in the new Adolin chapter was a ruby. You have to tap it to release your bond with your Shardblade.

Yeah, I think when I read that there was a giant talking face in the storm I realized that they weren't natural or an explosion. Maybe a force begins them with as much energy as an explosion, but they seem rather unnatural.

OOOok. -Love the new chapter headings. -If Shallan believes herself to be a monster, she must have killed those people, but some are bleeding, so it wasn't a Shardblade. At least not all of them. ALTHOUGH, the part where she says a monster should not be held in affection could be referring to her father, and he just killed them all in his temper. Technically she was also holding him. What the heck is glowing in the safe? -Kaladin's scene was awesome. I'm glad it sounds like he's going to really go through with the Radiant stuff. Can't wait for the next chapter with Amaram; looks like that conflict will take place through a good portion of even the early book. -OK. Eshonai is the Explorer. I think we can also confirm Szeth has an Honorblade. Stormform sounds scary. -Adolin sounds scary too. It is noticable that right when he starts thinking of the duel as war, he feels the Thrill as he never has in a duel. Also loved hearing him talk to his Shardblade. I think the fans of "spren are inside Shardblades" theories are going to get there way.

I see there is a blog posts portion of the user profile, and I was wondering how to make a blog post on here. It would help me organize my thoughts if nothing else. Anyone on this site could tell you how useful that would be, haha. Any help?

This is addressed specifically by Dalinar and Adolin in WoK. Dalinar loses his gauntlet and Adolin donates his own because while Dalinar is a great warrior, it is only because of his Shardplate that he is able to play ball with the youngsters. It's on the walk back from the Tower.

Hah! thank you weiry! Man, that is disappointing. More because Kramer had to use his Terris voice where it is unnecessary...
