  1. Could have more to do with the mind behind the intents than anything. Who knows.
  2. The Cognitive and Spiritual pressure theory is neat if a bit dull for such a big event. I don't mind the idea of Adonalsium shattering himself though. Whether it was an inheritance or maybe his inner pieces arguing (we have it on pretty good authority that some of them don't get along ), that is a fun idea. I wonder if Adonalsium was a personal god-being. What is his default personality like and does he hang out on Yolen with some dragons and just chill, or does he just fly around space?
  3. Does anyone know if this person had to sign away his spoiler ability? I'm about to straight abandon the internet if he was just given the book with no strings attached.
  4. That was kind of my point in my initial post. That a human force could be the opposition to Adonalsium, but we know that at the time they had less technology than we do at this point in real world time, and I can't see them doing much with very little technology against the greatest source of magic in the Cosmere.
  5. That could have been a really easy out for him though. I mean technically every Herald was mentioned when their names were mentioned. Even if that was just someone listing them.
  6. Can always count on Renarin posts to be mildly creepy or greater.
  7. I think it would be tough to make a case that you can Soulcast things into air, but can't Soulcast air into other things. The 10 essences are pretty all encompassing. I'm sure there are several rules that govern it, but I don't think you can only Soulcast wood, crem, and goblets.
  8. Pretty sure it is based on the 10 essences. Air being one of them.
  9. Maybe after a couple Ideals.... BLOODSTORMS
  10. ?? Bast lays it on pretty thick that his goal is to convert Kote to Kvothe before the end of the story. So far he has shown he has real ways of getting things done. Of course, there is also more of the story to tell. Perhaps Bast will learn that Kote is actually best.... doubt it.
  11. Honestly, I listed the things Jasnah said just to cover all the bases. When I think on it a bit more critically, I don't think complexity will be a Stormlight quantity thing, because I think that will be one of the talents that naturally separates Elsecallers from Lightweavers. One is a more creative group and able to invent things. The other is garbage at that because their minds are focused differently. No doubt they will have their own talents due to that, of course.
  12. Oh, yeah, I may have interpreted your tone poorly, sorry. I agree with you on the "could do more" part of things. Especially after you see how hopeless and depressed Sazed comes to be. It really is a lot to ignore that mindset when he gets hold of the Shards. I would think his response would be to correct those things that he had been doubting for so long. Going on a helpful spree would do the trick. Shardic influence is going to have to be explained pretty thoroughly at some point. woah, thanks for that interview link, Wiery. All my time on this site and I'm not sure I've seen that page. The reference in question is curious though. Considering WoK happens between Mistborn and AoL (toward the back end I believe), wouldn't that mean that Sazed has around 800 years or something to learn about Roshar? In that 800 years on Roshar a lot happened. I guess the quote where he says he isn't really that informed is potentially 800 years before WoK, so he could be watching Roshar for around that long. If that was the case, would he even see much of Odium on the planet, or Honor for that matter? I think even then he would be aware of what was going on, but he still might not be knowledgeable enough to go take action. What do you think?
  13. I think you are mistaking exactly what it means to hold two Shards. You have Preservation and you have Ruin, and then you have Preservation+Ruin. They were in balance (mostly) before the events of the Mistborn series, so why shouldn't they be balance now? Of course Sazed doesn't seem evil, but apparently Ruin's Shardholder was corrupted over time. The nature of the Shard dominates. So Sazed still has the two balancing his actions. It makes all the sense that the world is basically the same in terms of good to evil ratio. And it is not even good to evil. Ruin doesn't represent evil, he represents the breaking down of things over time. A Shardworld with only one Shard present doesn't have infinite life or death depending on whether the Shard is a good guy or a bad guy. Not really anything like that, except for Odium so far as I know, but we really don't even know all that much about what he is willing to support. We just know he wants these couple planets to go through some stuff, hahaha
  14. Depends on several factors I think. Probably something like size, the difference in material between the two objects, and your knowledge of what you are trying to Soulcast into. The scene when Jasnah explains to Shallan about the jam is where I'm getting this idea from.
  15. He knows next to zero percent of what is actually going on in the Cosmere. If he found out, it may not take intervention on his part. Perhaps only cooperation or submission to a being that was looking to unite the Shards. Really any worldhopper could explain more. We haven't seen how he would react to learning of events on the other planets, either. The nature of Harmony might be directly opposed to what Odium has been causing elsewhere. Harmony says in really plain terms that he doesn't know enough to be effective on a large scale.
  16. I assumed that as well for a long time just off of the fact that now they control the powers and split up with them instead of trying to reforge Adonalsium. However, at that point they would have just been a small group of humans on Yolen. There was other magic in the Cosmere, but I think Brandon (or Peter?) said that it was minor in comparison. It doesn't leave a lot of hope that a small group of humans defeated him... But I wouldn't be unhappy if that were the case, because that puts us in a pretty good position! Harmony is 2 of them and he is a good guy so far!
  17. I've got an xbox one now, so I have been looking forward to Titanfall, Destiny, and Kinect Sports Rivals. If you are a PC gamer, there are a ton of cheap or free games to try out. I was bored and tried out League of Legends the other day. That's a fun one to fool around on while you wait for others. Hearthstone is another good one to play casually while watching a tv series or movie (I like games I can multitask with). I myself am pretty much just waiting on the WoW expansion which is quite a while away.
  18. Expected WoK 1.1 patch notes : Soulcasting OP
  19. Upvote after knowing it is not a Ketek because it is a sweet palindrome regardless.
  20. My understanding of Deus ex Machina is that the events are almost entirely unforseeable to that point. One that I recently rewatched (so it comes to mind immediately) is in a movie called Das Leben der Anderen. It is a German drama where (I'll put it in spoilers in case anyone wants to go watch it) Great movie overall, but you could tell that they wrote that in to allow for a more cathartic end to the movie that could not have existed if everyone were alive. I think Mistborn books fit a theme pre-established by the other Cosmere stories and the Mistborn books themselves. Humans holding god-like powers, creating/altering worlds with them, and then intervening (or noticeably not intervening) based on the attribute associated with their Shard. Figures in the mist. A body dropping from mist. Those are evidence earlier in the stories that not only allow for, but directly lead into the ending of the series. I don't think they are Deus ex Machina for that reason. All that being said, if we all collectively decide that they fit the Deus ex Machina bill, everyone can know that I prefer those endings to others because they are actually new ideas. I like to have my world turned upside down every once in a while, you know?
  21. I confirmed the specific event where we see the gem recharge once. I then made a point that it is a very large assumption to assume from that quote that we know really any details about how gems are charged. Nothing I have seen has said how many times, but it could have just been Kaladin using the same sphere several times subconsciously. I have no idea.
  22. It is most environmentally friendly to turn them to wood. Defeat opponents and plant a forest in one move! Alethi are happy, Roshar is happy, Parshendii are plants with no feelings. Win-win-win?
  23. Who's to say that a gemheart from one of those island creatures couldn't provide enough power for an entire highstorm? Much much much smaller gems can soulcast entire barracks and that sort of thing. And Stormlight restoration has only one data point, and the POV character was seeing faces in the sky at the time, on top of being nearly unconscious. So not really a great data point to make assumptions on. As stated above, if someone were to remain in the center of the storm, perhaps the Stormlight would continue to flow through the gems. If I remember correctly, we aren't even sure what causes gems to crack. It could be the stress of losing Stormlight quickly or in certain amounts or just when they run out of Stormlight so many times.
  24. Yeah I meant in the center. Soulcasting happens instantly though, right? It wouldn't take a long time either way.
  25. I'm going to take you through my complete thought process here. It's not long, and it's not very intellectual, but these couple ideas kept me busy for around 10 minutes, so... I was thinking on the "Soulcast air into bridges" topic, and what it really means if you can Soulcast air into things.... considering it is everywhere. Unless you are having a space battle, that's pretty over powered, hahaha. Then I started thinking "What if someone tried to Soulcast the entire atmosphere around Roshar into.... well it wouldn't really matter, because any material would doom the planet. That would be a really villainous thing to do, however obnoxious that storyline would be. They'd have to hunt for some huge gemheart that could handle Soulcasting like that. Oh my gosh it would be the Bowl of the Winds quest all over again." But you wouldn't really need a huge gemheart, would you? You could probably just bring standard gems (or however Soulcasting KR take in Stormlight) into a hightstorm and have like infinite Stormlight. That is on such a huge scale that it sounds like you could poke 1 bajillion holes in it, but what if instead you just walked into a highstorm and Soulcast the storm itself into something?! Picture Jasnah in armor walking into a highstorm and Soulcasting it into food ( I like to think it would be pot pies) and then literally eating the Stormfather. Hey Brandon, if you ever need a co-author/idea man, private message me and we can exchange phone numbers.
