Strange and Surprising Crossovers
The Question replied to TwiLyghtSansSparkles's topic in General Discussion
In the third issue of Marvel's first Transformers series Spider-man met the Transformers. It's been the better side of twenty years since I read it, but if I remember correctly Spider-man teams up with Autobot Gears to fight Megatron. It's worth a read if you can find it. A few years ago Marvel and IDW did a Transformers/New Avengers crossover that I heard was good, but I can't personally speak about it. Since I can hear the wife watching Friends, the only crossover I can think of is an army of Daleks and the cast of Friends. WHO WILL WIN!? -
The Lord of the Rings is clean. In my opinion, it's still the greatest fantasy book ever written.

So, I'm moving from Sacramento, Ca to Omaha, Nebraska at the end of the month (July '14) and I was wondering if there were any Brandon fans out there that would like to meet. I don't know anyone in Omaha, so it might be nice to have some friends when I get there. Cheers. Also, recommendations for good comic book stores would be appreciated.

I'm not a fan of the Teen TItans semi-anime... or anime period, actually. However, I'm a HUGE fan of comic books! The New Teen Titans by Marv Wolfman and George Perez is excellent. It begins with the formation of the team because Raven contacts them all telepathically to warn them of great evil coming. This is taken care of in the first issue. We meet Deathsroke (Slade) in the second and it keeps getting better from there. It quickly establishes Brother Blood and HIVE as the main antagonists, with Deathstroke showing up sporadically to fight them. I don't know if these are currently available in trade format, but if they are I recommend them. Read through "Judas Contract." It's the highlight of the series. Also good is the series written by Geoff Johns that started around 2003. It features many of the classic Titans and some of the younger generation of superheroes, such as Superboy, a new Kid Flash, and a different Robin. I really enjoyed this series as well.

Thanks, 17th Shard for changing a dirty word for bum to "chull" so that we can talk about Mark Millar's comic series "Kick-chull." That gave me a big laugh. Bone was magnificent. I've recommended it to everyone I know of every age. I read a lot of comics, but it's almost exclusively comics from the Big Two (Marvel and DC.) Right now I'm re-reading James Robinson's Starman. Which is an absolute work of art. You might try Transmetropolitan. It's about a gonzo reporter in a weird futuristic world. Brilliant and hilarious.

I love the Teen Titans comic series (particularly the Wolfman/Perez stuff from the 80's.) I'm not a fan of the anime style cartoon... or really anime at all. Frozen was fantastic, Disney's best animated film in a long, long time. Justice League and Justice League Unlimited were fantastic. I loved being able to see all the various characters in the DCU that you don't see everyday (Such as Wildcat, The Question, Captain Marvel, The Flash, and many more.) Chronicles of Prydain was an excellent series. I also recommend Disney's The Black Cauldron. They're quick reads, but a lot of fun with great characters. Does anyone like the Starman comic book series, Philip Marlowe novels, or Buffy The Vampire Slayer? I heard about that Brandon Sanderson guy. Is he any good?

Fables is great. I was lucky enough to start it with the singles from the beginning and I've been hooked since. My buddy and I have been modding Fables heroclix figures. There are some surprisingly appropriate figures. I know that there is a video game coming (or possibly already out) but I don't play video games so that's the extent of my knowledge. Are there any other comic books that you read?

I think there is something here. I've been thinking a lot about the Iriali (sp?) and The Long Trail, perhaps this was one of their stops. If I remember correctly, they call Roshar the 4th World and are on the way to the 7th. (I'm at work right now and I can't double check.)

You lucky bastard! It doesn't come out until next week here. No spoilers, please, but what did you think of it? -

[Words of Radiance Tour] Chicago Signing, Mar 22
The Question replied to Argent's topic in Events and Signings
I'm going to be in Chicago for business next week and I'm hoping to make it to the signing. My question: Is there a Soulcast statue of Dalinar's wife? I'm beginning to wonder if she is actually dead. -
While reading Ym's interlude in WoR this bit stuck out at me: Sound to me like he is describing Adonalsium and it's creation of the universe. The world's we've seen in publication order are Sel, Scadrial, Nalthis, and Roshar. I think this is a meta-textual clue as to the importance of this bit. According to the Coppermind list of Shardworlds, there are eight major Lands: Yolen Taldain Sel Scadrial Nalthis Roshar Braize Ashyn My theory is that the Iriali are a tribe of nomadic people who have, as a group, traveled to the various Shardworlds. The Long Trail is the path which they take across The Cosmere. I'm afraid that I can't explain the discrepency between the Seventh Land and our eight worlds.

although I was unable to make it to the convention for health reasons, my good friend Anaroth85 asked one of my questions for me: "During the Final Empire Era, had anyone on Scadrial, particularly Sazed, Tindwyl, or Elend, read The Way of Kings?" The answer was no. However, another world already has and other worlds we haven't seen yet as well. Thanks Anaroth!

Unfortunately, I am not going to be able to go to the signing after all. I'm having a bit of a health issue and it's probably for the best that I stay home. Darn, I was really looking forward to going and meeting you guys. Please give Brandon my best.

I was watching King of the Nerds (reality show) on TBS tonight and they had the cover art from Way Of Kings on one of the walls! I paused the show, yelled excitedly, annoyed my wife, and generally got excited. It was cool to see Brandon get some pop culture love. I'd try to do a screen grab, but I'm not very good at internet.

Would anyone going to the San Francisco signing at 6pm be interested in grabbing a bite before or after the signing?

Hmm... This is a tough one for me. I love comic books more than just about anything and I don't think I do the other characters justice without separating those guys out first. Top 5 favourite comic book characters: 1. Jamie Madrox 2. Superman 3. Captain America 4. The Question 5. Hawkman Top 5 Favourite Fictional Characters: 1. Frodo Baggins (Lord of the Rings) 2. Spike (From Buffy: The Vampire Slayer) 3. The Doctor (Doctor Who, Tom Baker for ever!) 4. Mat Cauthon (Wheel of Time) 5. Reginald Barclay (Star Trek: The Next Generation) El_Warko: You got an Upvote for Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar. Shadow from American Gods almost made my list. Blindillusions: You got an Upvote for Edmond Dontes. That's one of my all-time favourite books. Have you seen the movie from about ten years back with Jim Caviezal? It's brilliant. I highly, highly recommend it.

Re: Adonalsium. I figured it might be worth an ask. Although I agree that it's more likely that Honour was Shattered there, I got a hunch that it might be where Adonalsium was Shattered. Beyond an interpretation of a few recent WoB, I think it's worth a go. Re: Way Of Kings and Scadrial. Tindwyl has read many books about leaders and on the subject of leadership. It seems plausible that a worldhopper brought over a copy from Roshar at some point. I admit that there might not be much of a canonical basis, but these are things that I've wondered for sometime.

I'm definitely going and driving in from Sacramento as well. In fact, if any other Sharders from Sac want to road trip and save some gas, we could work something out. I have a short list of questions that I intend to ask: 1. During the Final Empire Era, had anyone on Scadrial, particularly Sazed, Tindwyl, or Elend, read The Way of Kings? 2. Was Sazed familiar with Vorinism? If so, what would he have thought about it? 3. Was Adonalsium Shattered on the Shattered Plains of Roshar?

LDS Influences on Themes (Theology Time)
The Question replied to The Rooster's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Friends, please let me say how impressed I am with the intelligent discourse and general civility in this thread. For a theme from Judaism, The Lifeless from Warbreaker are clearly influenced by the Golem, an old Jewish tale. I'm not a Morman, and I'm afraid that I have little to contribute. I was quite moved by Sazed's crisis of faith in the wake of the tragedy with Tindwyl. I once had a similar experience and reading Sazed's reaction brought me to tears more than once. -

For what it's worth, I sent a code request to Team Sanderson and they granted it. I was unable to make it to either of the two Northern California signings due to a health issue. I'm not suggesting that everyone who doesn't have a code should start emailing TS, but that I had a good interaction with them and appreciated their assistance and understanding. Prior to getting a code (last Monday) I was annoyed by people hinting at what was in the Steelhunt info. I definitely felt left out. I'd be happy to share my code with anyone who would like it.

Peter, I think think tumblr he is referencing is http://adonalsium.tumblr.com/ I might be wrong, but it does have the recent read of Way Of Kings there.

@Exmachina: Cassie Cain Batgirl is one of the best comic series of the last decade or so. It's remarkably good. As much as I love Barbara Gordon (and Stephanie Brown, for that matter) Cassie is my favourite Batgirl. @Featherwriter: Kid Loki surprised me by how good it is. I was not expecting to like a Loki series as much as I did. Young Avengers is good too and features several characters I really like and don't get to see enough.
