Lerasium and Atium Theory (potential Mistborn spoilers)
aeromancer replied to Shardlet's topic in Mistborn
We're sure Sazedium is the power of Feruchemy? -
We don't know a lot about tapping Investiture. But the result would still be end-neutral, because you need to decrease your storing powers while storing up Investiture. Steel compounding does create a stronger Steelpush, but not in the way you think it does. It does not create a stronger Push, rather the Push happens faster (assuming you're using the speed). And since F(orce) = m(chull) x a(cceleration), when the acceleration increases, the force does as well.

Yes, precisely. Since he could choose to move atium shadows occur. However, in actuality, Zane will not move, so no atium shadows according to CAT.

Buy. Greater and Lesser Roshar will interact at some point in Stormlight Archive

Now, I propose a theory henceforth known as Grandmaster. Allow me to establish the baseline for this theory before espousing it: Suppose Vin is fighting a Mistborn assassin (pre-WoA). She thinks the assassin has Atium so she burns it herself. Unfortunately (for the assassin) the assassin does not have atium, and gets killed. However, Watcher (aka Zane) is watching the fight and (for purposes of our discussion) burns atium as well. What happens? Conventional Atium Theory (CAT): Since Zane is in no way getting involved in the Vin's fight, Vin does not appear as exploding atium shadows to Zane, until Zane interferes. Grandmaster: Atium does not allows the user to see into the future, it allows the user to foresee the chain of events, like a chess grandmaster. Anyone burning atium is unpredictable and/or will deviate from predicted course, thus Zane would see the atium shadows. Evidence towards Grandmaster: The user never sees an Atium shadow of him/her-self. Strike you as odd? So does Zane see the shadows or not? OK, chess grandmasters don't work like that, I should know better. But it's a cool name.

I buy. Atium has powers we have yet to discover.

Absolutely, Lord_Ffnord! The great thing about Brandon's characters is that they (usually) have villainous and heroic aspects. (Notable exceptions include Elend, Dalinor etc.) Even the Lord Ruler can be viewed as a hero.

Disclaimer: Obviously Kelsier is a "good guy". However, there is a ton of evidence to suggest otherwise which makes no sense, but is fun to do. Exhibit A: Kelsier advises Vin to keep her earring in - which is a Hemalurgic spike! Exhibit B: Kelsier destroys the Pits of Hathsin, forcing Elend + Vin to look for the atium cache - the source of Ruin's power1 Exhibit C: Kelsier kills the Lord Ruler - the only person holding back Ruin! Exhibit D: Keliser ordered his brother to infiltrate the Steel Ministry - to become an Inquisitor! Rally to the Confederate Flag. All hail practical jokes!!

I think you guys are all overthinking this - literally. Thinking is not the way to beat atium. Atium does not show all the possibilities of what the guy can do, but what he is going to do. Vin literally had two thrusts at once, allowing her to split. The sparker will intend to strike everywhere, but in reality he'll only strike once. Evidence: Vin stops thinking about her actions and just lets herself strike and responds to Zane with an immediately changes using pewter-enhanced reflexes.

Small spoiler, don't read if you don't know anything about Hoid and lerasium

Elend is an optimist who hopes that such a potent weapon need never be used, Alternatively, he would've tried bargaining with Yolen using the Lerasium -

Um, Demoux isn't an unSnapped Seer. That was magically given to him by the Preservation. As to your theory on the second bead, knowing Elend, he would have argued to divide/dilute it. Or give it to Sazed for safekeeping. -
Jules Verne, Master of Science Fiction. Old, but good. Really, really good.

Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
aeromancer replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Brandon said that the most powerful thing (arguably) in the cosmere is Harmony, so there's your answer. My favorite matchup is the Duel of the Spears: Kelsier v.s Kaladin (Kaladin gets an Aluminum spear. Just to balance things out.) -
Does Hoid have atium shadows? Anyone know?
-
With all due respect, I think this whole discussion is pointless because there is a no way a Sparker could pull off the "two-path" trick Vin does. True, he will be able to come up with a solution to anything the Seer does, but the only reason why Vin has two shadows is she is acting in response to Zane; the Sparker in contrast is anticipating every results, so in a way, it works against him. Atium allows you to see in the future, so anyone reacting to what a Seer does, is by extension using the power of atium as well. The Sparker is not doing that. Therefore, to extra shadows. Anyone can pull off the "two-path" trick, it just requires insane reflexes. "Atium has a weakness - it allows you to see into the future" - Vin.

Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win

Szeth wins. Vasher's good, but not against a master assassin like Szeth. -
Could you Ironpull the moon? That's a thought. Use that to levitate, and keep moving by pulling a spikeway. (Yes, this will never work because the moon moves. Or could a skilled Allomancer adjust for that.) Anyway, we'll never know for sure, because Scandrial doesn't have a moon. (Convenient. Just saying)

So I was rereading Elantris, and found the word "Jesker" in it. "Jesker" refers to a now extinct (or nearly so) religion practiced by Duladel prior to its collapse and and ressurection as followers of Shu-Dereth. This is obviously a reference to "Jesk" (aka what Hoid does for a living) So now we have a cosmere link aside from Worldsingers/Worldbringers. Are there any more, specifically on Nalthis, as we have Roshar, Sel, and Scandrial covered?

Your 'Most perfect scene' from a book you've read
aeromancer replied to Shardlet's topic in General Discussion
The climax of book three of Morpheus Roads (D.J. MacHale). This may sound juvenile, but the scene that happens is amazing. In Sanderson: Dalinar giving up the Shardblade. It's just perfect. -
The Grey Pilgrim gets killed by the Balrog, no? Anyway, welcome to the site, Mithrandir

Deaths, Character Arcs, Couples, etc.
aeromancer replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Kaladin's a moving funeral at this point. This is not happening anytime soon, but Brandon has a tombstone for the guy in his "Grave of Heroes". Which also means that Kaladin gets to be the "Redeemer". Shallan's the destroyer. The quest for endless knowledge always, always, results in that kind of an effect. Szeth and Dalinar are unkillable. Their character's are just to awesome to kill off, and not the correct fit to martyr.
