Well, by what I hope is a complete glitchy fluke, i have discovered that -20 is Rotting Chull-Carcass.

Yeah, I agree. TWoK seems intentionally ambiguous as to whether Dalinar forgetting his wife is his boon or his curse. I have not heard of any WoB on the subject at all. Cem raises a good point as well that Brandon's response does not necessarily apply to the neurological aspect of the question.

Vorinism and the Decline of Historic Knowledge

I think you are just trying to milk us for more upvotes by using multiple posts. "Oh, I have only just now found this (hehehe)" Seems to be working.

While heat may be considered a property of matter (i.e., heat of formation, etc.), thermal heat is not a property of matter, per se. It is a quantity of phononic vibration (i.e., molecular vibrational energy). The temperature of a substance affects many properties of the substance based upon other properties of that same substance (e.g., volume of a substance varies by temperature according the thermal expansion properties of the substance). Long story short. Heat shout jive just fine. Also, while frictional interactions can dissipate forces as heat, heat is much broader and can be generated by more than just friction.

New here, Dalinar Kholen Theory (Contains spoilers)
Shardlet replied to chronotrigger's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Welcome, chronotrigger. Glad to have you with us and posting your ideas. Your idea is very interesting. I don't think anyone has put that forward. Makes reasonable sense, although my wife says "why would you go to the nightwatcher to find a wife". I do however think you are making some assumptions about Dalinar's wife's background that are not necessarily supported. But, speculation is of course welcome here.- 17 replies

Welcome, Brandt. I hope you enjoy WoK. It is one of my favorite reads and I am practically quivering in anticipation of the release of Words of Radiance in March. Glad to have you with us.

Connection Between Allomancy and the Heralds/Surges...?
Shardlet replied to darkanimereal1's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Personally, I think it suggests a combined system influenced by both Honor and Cultivation together. I think this is at least somewhat borne out in comments from Brandon indicating that at least some spren have both Honor and Cultivation in them. -
Drakarma is basing this idea first off of Hoid's known feruchemy and further posits that Hoid shaved a bit off of the lerasium bead he has and burned it (the bit he shaved off) to become a weak mistborn as well while still retaining most of the original lerasium bead. Edit: Wait! This is not my office! I confused this with a different therad. Where did you get a Hoid-allomancy connection in this thread, Gloom?

Connection Between Allomancy and the Heralds/Surges...?
Shardlet replied to darkanimereal1's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think about it every time I log on to this site. -
I also first thought of Superman. Clearly comic books did exist. David says in the prologue that his dad was wearing a t-shirt with a comic book character on it. The question is, what does the 'S' stand for? (unless it is in fact the Superman symbol in the story and was adopted by the faithful because of Superman comic books)

Haha, that is funny. You did it more systematic than me. I just wacthed rankings in the threads and tried to pay particular attention to members who were at the extremes of my ranges. I only discovered the members list fairly recently. That is how I first ran into the Hoed guy. I heard about the guy who was Lamespren, but did not see him until he popped up on the top rep page (when I first found that page, he was not on it). I have not seen any posts to any negs except for the one by jacobsantos (Hoed) and a couple by a couple of -2 negaspren.

I think this is a good idea Pech. I just noticed that up until now I failed to upvote you for it.

I hold my opinion in abeyance about Amaram's blade. I don't recall it being described as being double-edged but the serration I do recall. As to other differences between that blade and other blades (such as Dalinar's), I suspect that such differences would have been met by particular note by Amaram and Co. (though this discussion could have occurred off-screen). I think Elhokars blade also has serrations on one side). But I think it is in the same group as Dalinar and Adolin's blade. The dominant idea hear is Radiantblades, Szethblade, and Honorblades (held by Heralds). Actually we have seen nine Honorblades in the Prelude and the tenth in the epilogue. True, they are not described, but we have seen them. As a side not, though Taln's blade is described to resemble a giant spike, this does not preclude the blade from having 1, 2, or even 3 edges.

You are right Kadrok, 75 for Sliver. He's been there. That is how he knows about Lamespren and Hoed. To find out all the numerical levels, at the top of each thread is a "Showing all posts" dropdown. If you click on this, you can hide any post that is by a person that doesn't meet a specified rep level. That is how I found out about all the numerical levels. Edit: the only numerical level on the dropdown that I know is outside the rep ranking framework is 0. But this is a logical limiting point as well. I guess -2 is a little off as well.

Hard to say. I suppose it depends on whether you subscribe to the duralumin-burn = sum of power gained from metal co-burned; or duralumin-burn = enhanced power of metal co-burned (i.e., greater than sum of total burn).

At 32, to be precise.

He did a lot of cons this summer. I got the impression from talking to him that future con schedules will be much more conservative. That being said, there is no reason why Chicago can't be one of the X number of cons he chooses to do next year.

I don't know that it would be a fabrial since it is just described as a stone. Fabrials are devices which have a gem with a spren trapped in it. There is no description to indicate that Gavilar's stone is a device. I suspect it is a special stone with a special type of spren trapped inside it, but not attached to a fabriel (yet).

The donor usually dies because being spiked through the heart is typically fatal. It could conceivably done without killing the donor by carefully using a strong very slender needle-spike. Others have theorized that the heart is a universal theft-point whereas there are attribute-specific theft-points elsewhere. If that is correct, then conceivably the donor could survive spiking through one of the othe points. Personally, I think the heart is the only game in town and that is why is is so unlikely for the donor to survive. But, now that you have clarified that you think the donor must die before an attribute can be stolen, your comments are much more clear. How did you determine that particular order, name? I think that it is a possible interpretation of the quote. But, I don't think that it is the most likely one. Especially in view of Weiry's last point. Seems clear that death of the donor is not required for making a spike.

We do, but that is from genetic dilution. I'm not sure how well the same principle would apply in this case.

The full listing as far as I have been able to determine is as follows: -100 ?, -25 Lamespren, -20 ?, -15, -10 Hoed, -5 ?, -2 Negaspren, -1-4 17S Trainee, 5 Awakener, 10 Misting, 16 Mistborn, 24 Elantrian, 32 Shardbearer, 40 Full Shardbearer, 50 Knight Radiant, 64 Worldhopper, 76 Sliver, 100 Splinter, 128 Shard, 256 Hero of Ages, 512 The Broken One, 1024 ?, 1337 ?, 1338 ?. I suspect that 1337 is Hoid, but we won't know for a long time (Chaos and Windrunner are the closest and Windrunner would need to double his rep).

Yeah, what Serendipity said . It is really hard to say on a lot of the questions about lerasium. We only have ever seen one bead get burned and Elend did not give any detail. My guess would be uncontrolled burn. Also, since lerasium is an sDNA rewrite, I'm not sure what would happen if you burned just a titch. Weaker mistborn doesn't seem right, but minimum amount also seems a bit clunky.

Yeah, Brandon said that it will be released when the other members of Writing Excuses get their stories written. Edit: Oops, missed your response Weiry.

Well, we know very little about Devotion's pool. True, it released elantrians from their suffering, but it did not do so to Raoden. It is conceivable (and likely) that there is more to it than just a suicide tool. Your overall point is accurate though. The well was a special case which resulted from the way and degree to which Preservation invested himself.
