  1. I had an absolutely insane idea that probably won't work but I want to say it anyways.

Feruchemical Brass stores "heat," but what exactly is heat? If we're defining it like real life heat, it is a form of electromagnetic radiation, like how we get heat from the sun.

What can you actually store inside a Brassmind? Would you be able to store any form of electromagnetic radiation? (I'm not suggesting storing different types of radiation such as Alpha or Beta particles. I don't expect you to be able to walk into a nuclear reactor and walk out fine.)

I dunno I probably sniffed a sharpie too much or something.

Quick note, a WOB states that F-Steel can also affect the Burn speed of your metals like Duralumin.

So, this means that if this 'Fugitive' burned Copper while storing, their Coppercloud will be weaker, but will also be stronger while tapping.

Which means that if they aren't careful while storing, their Coppercloud will be weak enough that an average strength Seeker might be able to pierce through it.

Yeah that's a fair point that I forgot about.

Hey so I probably won't post weekends due to me normally not getting on the Shard all that much on weekends, just to let you know.

Yesterday I just got wrapped up re-reading RoW 😅

    Twinborn Combo # 8

    A-Nicrosil/F-Atium

(Boosts other's allomantic abilities / Stores Youth)

Okay, so allomantic nicrosil is able to boost others' powers - so guess what? You're most likely going to be a support(ish) team member or possibly team leader that relies on the strength of others, but you basically superpower your team. Additionally, if you use it at the right time, you can throw the enemy off by boosting their powers at an unexpected or inopportune time. The only downside - you have to get close enough to touch them. I feel as if you would need much physical training in order to sneak up and boost Metalborn unexpectedly.

Feruchemical Atium stores Youth - and most feruchemists use it as a disguise. However, I believe that if used by someone who does a physical activity, they could store for a while and then be able to perform, play, fight, or whatever in their prime instead of as an older person. The two major downsides to this are that due to the loss of investiture when storing and tapping (and compressing) metalminds, you would effectively shorten your life - similar to a bendalloy misting, and Atium, would be EXTREMELY hard to come by. TLM spoilers:

    Spoiler

There were trace amounts of pure Atium after the harmonium explosion - theoretically you could make an alloy with electrum and have the pre-retcon Atium effects.

Essentially, you could just run around helping your team and be more youthful and spry in moments when you need it. You would be able to extend your "working years."

Resonance: I believe that you could make people around you feel younger - they aren't, they just feel more rejuvenated in your presence.

Name: Chuck Norris (lol). No but I think Augmenter or something would be neat.

Rating: 6/10 if you can access Atium - being able to extend working years would be great, but 3/10 if you can't - you're really just a nicroburst.

  3. Twinborn Combo # 7

    A-Copper/F-Steel

(Hides Allomantic Signals / Stores speed)

So somewhere there is a WOB about copper clouds hiding kinetic use of Investiture: so theoretically, it should be a powerful counter against SA spoilers:

    Spoiler

    Detector fabrials

Could be useful in future cosmere.

Additionally, when speed is tapped from steel, some of it is transformed into a mental speed in order for you to process what is happening in the moment, causing a loss in Investiture overall, but allows you to actually use it so that's cool.

I guess you could go running around blocking Investiture signals if you wanted to... I can't really think of anything else besides blocking your own tapping signals.

Resonance: The ability to block some perception of your location from higher power entities like Shards? No idea actually.

Name: On the Lamb. But actually, probable something like Fugitive.

Rating: 4/10. Don't see much synergy, but it isn't that bad either.

  4. In answer to @Argenti's question, the Vessel of Indulgence was from pre-Shaod Elantrians (specifically the Ire), but he didn't end up forming Indulgence until roughly 80 years post Catacendre, after he stole some Dor and fled from the Ire. So, relatively new in Shardic terms, but still around long enough to develop a presence on the planet or a moon (does it have a name yet?) and be sufficiently Invested in it.

We should do colors on those docs, just to see who put what where.

@Lopens Tenth Cousin, do you have a magic system idea for indulgence, and do you think they're "native" to the planet?

If you don't, would you like me to come up with one?

I don't have a specific system, but I have a general guideline of it being based on will of the user (sort of like the green lantern ring, but it's really the more willing a person is to do something (or you could say how ambitious they are), the more Investiture you can access). Also my stupid computer won't let me access the doc. I'll have to look at it later when I can access a different computer.

  6. Twinborn Combo # 6

    A-Steel/F-Bronze

(Pushes on Nearby Metals / Stores Wakefulness)

Allomantic Steel basically allows you to both become a firearm and also allows you to have massive "jumps." Additionally, it gives you a 360 degree vision of seeing connections to metal objects. A normal steel misting is called a "Coinshot" - a very literal name, as they end up shooting coins at people.

Feruchemic Bronze allows you to store sleep - essentially, you sleep for longer one night, then you tap it and don't need to sleep for another night, but with the benefits of a full night's sleep. A bronze ferring is called a "Sentry," due to the fact that they can spend multiple nights without sleep if needed.

A good synergizing of these abilities allows for a good cop, special unit, or some other thing where you may need to spend nights awake at a distance, or for "stake-outs." If you go on a mission or something, you could spend however long just finishing it - no sleep or breaks are needed, and you will always be at the top of your game. You would still have one of the most shown powers that is good for combat - anything metal your opponent wears can and will be used against them, along with whatever metals you bring.

Resonance: I can't really think of a good resonance so comments are welcome.

Name: I was thinking Bond.. James Bond. No just kidding. But I think Nightcop would be a good one (cause they work the nightshift...)

Rating: 5/10. Honestly just having F-bronze would make most of the allomantic abilities better, as you could do them for longer (in a way), and do them at times others don't want to do them. There isn't too much major synergizing, just a mild increase.

Since I have already declared indulgence as a winer and give it was only one vote off will simply have 3 shards

Well pretty much every other one was one off, and I feel like I accidentally cheated the system... I don't want to cause problems.

Any potential for a 4th Shard *looks hopefully with puppy eyes*

Seriously though, @Lopens Tenth Cousin already said the system had five planets, and some of these aren’t even full Shards. Why do we need to limit ourselves?

I think we'd be fine making different RPs based on our shards, but I feel like if all of us did one we might clutter the RP a little much... maybe? (this is actually my first RP on the forum)

  8. There is a solar system containing five planets - three uninhabitable. The shards ended up settling on one closer to the sun, (the 2nd) with a highly pressurized atmosphere with many greenhouse gasses.

Life works based on regular animals being highly Invested (humans are just weak - only gots the brains). The main biome is the drifting islands which are in the higher up portion of the atmosphere and are ever changing. There are some "Permanent isles" that are just the peaks of tall mountains.

Below is the Scorchlands, where nothing lives aside from highly Invested Silicate based life forms that live off of the magma at the surface. The planet is about 1.3 Earth sizes, having just a little bit of extra gravity.

There are 2 moons in orbit around each other, tidally locked and perfectly in sync with one another (one planetary object for each shard)

Most Flora and Fauna float around and are similar to jellyfish in a way, just in the air.

    Twinborn Combo #5

    A-Brass/F-Tin

    (Soothes emotions / Store senses)

Allomantic Brass is the ability to soothe people's emotions - to dampen specific emotions and make someone more susceptible to suggestion. This would make you seem to be the best friend ever! (unless one of the many, many, many, many, people you've manipulated finds out and gets mad)

Feruchemical Tin, as I described yesterday (still don't know what the chances are that I got it again) stores senses.

This combo seems almost identical to the Mindwhisper from the previous thread - but with brass. Using stored sight to be able to perceive people's body language to better use your allomancy was suggested, and I agree with that.

Resonance: Possibly an enhanced perception when somebody is feeling negative emotions - not which emotions, just emotions.

Name: I was thinking Reassurer - the soothing does the reassuring and the F-tin provides the context to the soother.

Rating: I will go with 8/10, because having enhanced vision while soothing seems like it will provide major benefits.

I mean... I'm good either way, but that makes sense. We could just state what shard we want. I'm a little(a lot) biased, but I think I actually enjoy the idea and potential conflict that Indulgence could give due to assistance being granted to any side.

  11. A combination of a large fragment of Ambition's power (probably the Evil), with a lot of Dor that has been transported to the threnodite system. The shard ends up being very ambitious - rewarding those who have ambition, but it both wants to serve the people and rule over them. Therefore, I will call the shard...

Indulgence - for the fact that the ambitious are rewarded, no matter how much dominion they set up over their fellow man. Intent - to reward ambition, especially the kind that promotes either the development of the people (devotion) or the development of governmental power (dominion)

The vessel was a member of the Ire that fled after he stole an ambitious amount of Dor for himself in order to not deal with the consequences. He fled to one of the most inhibited systems in terms of growth - Threnody, in the fact that they have difficulty doing anything contrary to the will of the Shades. His name... Edalant

We know that malatium is a gold and atium alloy and if you look on the malatium page it says that you can snap and be a malatium misting so with this i think that you can also be a misting with a metal from another shard, alloy or not

Yes, in the original series it was like that, but afterwards Brandon retconned it so then Atium would fit more with how godmetals should work. WoB:

    Spoiler

    AAKS

My understanding is that Brandon thinks it is a plothole that lerasium can be burned by Scadrian (regardless of if they are Mistings/Mistborn) but atium can't.

His solution is to retcon the Pits to naturally produce an atium/electrum alloy, presumably by the design of Preservation. Therefore we don't know what pure atium looks like or does when used in any magic.

    Peter Ahlstrom

We do know what it does. It’s on the Allomancy poster, and the effect appeared one time at the end of Hero of Ages.

    LewsTherinTelescope

Interesting. Do you know if he had already conceived the retcon by the time the poster was written, or if that line about pure atium just turned out to fit really well retroactively?

    Peter Ahlstrom

The retcon is way older than a lot of people assume.

    LewsTherinTelescope

Does this mean he had it in mind by the time Hero of Ages released (since the first public version of the poster dates to 2008), or just that it's old but not sure exactly how old?

    Peter Ahlstrom

Remember that what's in the books is filtered through the understanding of the characters. So even if Brandon planned it from the beginning, if the characters didn't know about it, it's not going to come out in the book.

And see this thread reply from 2009.

Footnote: The link is to a post on the Timewaster's Guide forums, where Peter responds to someone asking about whether atium is an alloy by saying he now knows enough to confirm or deny the theory, but is not allowed to.

So: in the first series, there were malatium mistings, but they were really gold mistings that used the malatium alloy

      Reveal hidden contents

In the original post it said that there were 289 possible combinations this is slightly wrong because we know combining a god metal with one of the basic metals makes a new metal and the god metals we know of are atuim, lerasium, raysium, trillium, honors metal mixed with Cutavations metal, and honors and Cutavations metals separate that's 7 if you combined each of those with the bace 16 you get 112 metals then to get twinborn combinations you multiply it by its self which gives us 12,544 possible combinations plus what ever other gods have metals like harmony but his metal is as of right now not burn able due to it exploding if it touches water. Brandon also said that if a shard switches hands that shard has a new metal so the shard Preservation has had 3 metals lerasium, Kelsiers metal, and vins and is know mix with ruin to make harmonium which also make raysium and honors metal no longer because they are one.

    Spoilers for

    WaT

    HoA

Yes, however, like in the post for today, it seems that the metal you are an allomancer of will give you the abilities of it alloyed with godmetals as well, which isn't more combinations, just more variety for the combinations. Personally, I think that an Electrum Ferring would also be able to use the abilities that Atium gave feruchemists, and that there is the exact same number, just effects will change depending on if you store in that metal alloyed with a godmetal.

If I remember correctly everything has a shadow and not just people. Even if you got a different version of inquisitor (god vision according to Kel in TLM) sight from storing gold/ electrum / atium / malatium and the future / past shadows were not present this combo would be valuable.

Yes these options WOULD be better, but IIRC, the only metal that showed object shadows was Atium(and possibly malatium). All the other "Shadow" metals showed the shadows of people

  15. Okay, today is an interesting one. (don't get too excited @Koloss17)...

    Twinborn Combo #4

    A-Atium / F-Tin

(See the near-future of others / Stores senses)

Allomantic Atium, as we saw it in the books has already been retconned, as Brandon Stated that the nature of God Metals should've been able to be used by everybody. In the Coppermind, it states:

    Quote

Despite its name, the metal known as atium is not actually the pure form of Ruin's God Metal. Instead, atium is an alloy of electrum and that pure God Metal.

In other words, they are essentially an electrum misting, but I digress. Burning Atium gives you the ability to see into the near-future of those around you and of objects around you. It does this in the form of "shadows" that are perceivable to the user. Since the metal doesn't exist in real life, and it was rare back then, nonexistent around the Wax and Wayne series, I think you're going to have a rough time being this misting.

Feruchemical Tin stores senses - however, not necessarily the 5 basic senses that people think of. There have been multiple WoB on the subject:

    Quote

    BartimaeusTrilogyFan

Can Feruchemists store more than the five ‘traditional’ senses, and does Allomantic tin enhance more than the traditional five senses?

    More is possible.

I recently picked up the Mistborn Adventure game and am loving it. I made a character who is a blind Mistborn because hey, I thought it would make for some interesting possibilities. As I understand Allomancy, he can hear/sense well enough to get around with Tin, plus even though he's blind he can still "see" steel lines (like the inquisitors), and I assume Atium would work the same way- that is, he could still "see" Atium shadows. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Brandon Sanderson

No, you're right. That works. He'd have to burn metals a LOT though. It might warp him a little. :)

Can Feruchemical tin store Allomantically granted senses like bronze sense?

    Brandon Sanderson

    Possible.

    General Signed Books 2018 (Feb. 8, 2018)

There's more, but I keep getting distracted. Therefore, you should be able to store proprioception (feeling of body part location), nocioception (sense of pain), and Allomantic abilities (like Bronze pulses and Steelsight).

So, I believe you would be able to store your ability to see shadows. Not your ability to perceive them, nor your ability to use Fortune at that moment, in which case would make this combo slightly useless - unless you can also store the ability to "feel" incoming attacks. You would be able to "see" the shadows at any time, but you wouldn't be able to see them have the future echo like when Atium is burned normally. If you can store the ability to feel incoming attacks, then you might be able to become insane at dodging (again, if you can find Atium)

Resonance: I think the resonance between these two metals would be an increased sense of the location of others - When burning Atium you can dodge attacks that come from behind when you don't necessarily "see" the shadows but you "feel" them.  It wouldn't be too overpowered, but more like a more advanced form of when you can feel somebody standing behind you.

Name: there is a scientific thing called Pareidolia where your mind creates shadows and patterns because your bored, and I feel like you would become extremely jumpy with this combo, so possibly Paranoid.

Rating: Honestly, mostly because it would be extremely difficult to get Atium (in real life impossible), I would go with 4/10 in world, 2/10 out of it. F-Tin is still extremely useful, but Atium is too rare to really cause much of a difference. If you had a supply of Atium, I would go with 5/10 if you could feel incoming attacks (although I think just burning Atium would be more useful)

Edit: If you pulled upon already stored senses, and burned Atium, would you be able to have it so you could "hear" the shadows, see them better, or maybe even be able to "feel" them even though they're ethereal, thereby giving you an edge, especially upon other Atium mistings?

  16. Wait wait wait. I thought that there was an interaction between Jasnah and Ivory that stated that he would probably be the only True spren to bond with a human - and aren't the results of that test weighted to make it so you're less likely to obtain certain orders based off of the spren's expectations?

Therefore, shouldn't Elsecallers be more limited in number?

On 5/3/2024 at 9:49 PM, AlastorBM said:

It's very interesting, I thought there would be more dustbringers.

The fact that a year later, there are still only three bondsmiths is epic

I also think this one is weighted due to the fact that there is a very limited number of spren that could make you a bondsmith.
