  1. "You know what? We came here looking for people who knew the person in the figure. They might not know about the orbs."
  2. Not sure I completely buy into this, but I love the theory. That is similar to how Honor begins to gain sentience due to being left alone and amassed for millennia. Investiture does work in this way - so I could see Adonalsium existing because of common perception. However, I do not believe that the Shattering was a changing of that. The Dawnshards, while ever mysterious, don't appear to have abilities related to that. We do know that, had the Shattering gone differently, the Shards could have formed with different Intents. The fact that Adonalsium could have fought back but didn't as it would cause too much destruction leads me to believe that the Shattering happened as we have traditionally imagined it to, but still, very interesting theory.
  3. "Well, orbs can mean a lot of things. And they could lie."
  4. "I don't think this is an effective method of doing this."
  5. We have multiple examples of Elantrians outside of Elantris. General Cosmere spoilers:
  6. Hello, welcome to the Shard! What's your favorite Compounder ability set?
  7. I recall Odium making deals with a few of the islands, but there's enough of them that I don't think it matters. What interlude are you referencing? I don't remember that being discussed.
  8. Connection is gained by how closely one thing is perceived to be related to another. By spending a decent amount of time with a Shard, working for a Shard, or even describing themselves as being Connected in this way, a Connection could be formed. Connecting things is a simple task, especially when a Shard is involved, so the only thing stopping this would be the Herald's willingness. Even so, I cannot really imagine a pact that is strong enough to bind Retribution in this way simply using the fact that the Heralds are Connected to him.
  9. Identity is not made of Investiture, it is generally someone's spiritweb. The spiritweb is a metric manifold that describes how Investiture may move. A Connection, then, is a point at which two spiritwebs share a Tangent Space, allowing for the flow of Investiture between them. A shared Tangent Space is created when the spiritwebs have similar curvature to them, where the curvature is impacted by the perception of people. This is not important to the argument, but the main point is that souls and Identities are not made of Investiture, they are possibilities for the flow of Investiture. Thus, Investiture will not be trapped in spiritwebs as the number of spiritwebs increases, as it will only be in them when it is flowing to them through a Connection.
  10. I would place Whimsy lower on this list. As it is relatively unimportant compared to the other Shards, I cannot envision it being targeted until a while off.
  11. "Well, its coming from that general area. I'll be able to tell exactly when we get closer."
  12. Like I said, it would be different depending on who said it. That one works too, though.
  13. I agree with everything that's on there currently. Might be nice to see Fused, Thunderclast, or Unmade added. p.s. its spelled Shanay-im
  14. I believe that the 4th Ideal is supposed to be a personal one, that changes for every Radiant. I think there could be a lot of different options here. Ones I thought of were: I accept that I cannot know the entire Truth. or I accept that Truth is subjective to individuals.
  15. "Yup." They begin walking, with Taeidin periodically checking to make sure they are going in the right direction. After a few hours, the woods clear away, and they see a bustling city sprawled out before them. "They're in there."
  16. The Third Ideal is different depending upon the individual speaking it but generally has the same theme. I think it would be best as: I will embrace truth, even when painful to do so.
