  1. @Gloom: It is very very doubtful that the honor blades have been separated and possessed by random people over time. You forget that they are connected to that purgatory. Any wielders who died would have joined Taln in the flames. Those blades don't pass to someone else after death. @Marinami: I have also thought about Kaladin somehow reforging the Honor shard, but I don't think it would be as simple as Kaladin just putting the honor blades together.
  2. "He" is singular. If it was describing 3 people, it would say "they".
  3. Well I have no idea what following Dalinar has to do with picking up the forgotten title. I simply assumed that the tower, crown and spear were symbols of power associated with the title and that the title would belong to Kaladin. I do not enjoy the thought of Kaladin working under Dalinar for too long. They are equals in my eyes, and Kaladin leads himself.
  4. When I say the meaning behind the symbol is probably forgotten, I mean that just like how kholinar's relationship with the radiants has been forgotten, the meaning behind the symbols has probably been forgotten as well. And since Kaladin seems to be Jezrien's replacement, I can see him wearing a crown and ruling the tower/urithiru.
  5. It is a bit of a problem that we haven't had much of a description of the oathstone. And since I don't know much detail about the sealing of spren into spheres, I suppose it's possible. But then again, it does seem strange that a place like Shinovar that seems to have no spren, would use spren in their oathstones. Edit: Do spren only exist in places where highstorms pass and do they require the storm to exist? possible question for Brandon if it hasn't already been asked >.>
  6. Nope not really. Probably a symbol they've long since forgotten the meaning of. The spear mentioned is the clincher for me, it's definitely talking about Kaladin and the title he must pick up. A title that involves a tower, a crown, and a spear. And little dreamer me thinks Kaladin will rule Urithiru Edit: And to me, Kaladin wearing Dalinar's cloak with the symbol is just going to be a sign of trust and a sign that Kaladin has overcome the stigma of the past. I don't see Kaladin serving under anyone in the future, he's destined for great things. I have the common disease of wanting all the best things for whoever I consider to be the MC so please forgive me
  7. Finding one Honorblade pretty much equates to finding all of them except Taln's. And since Szeth never left Shinovar until he was sold, that makes it even more strange. And not to spoil or anything, but the shardblade carried by a suspected Herald in a recent interlude wasn't described as anything special so you might assume that any blades currently carried by Heralds would be normal ones. And since carrying an Honorblade links you with that Hell they were so afraid of, that makes it even more unlikely that anyone carries one now. Although I do like the idea of Szeth being sent to purgatory to burn if he dies...and perhaps coming back later as a better person...
  8. You do realize that by suggesting that Szeth's abilities come from an honorblade, he's suggesting that Szeth somehow has Jezrien's blade? Seems unlikely to me...
  9. "He must pick up the fallen title! The tower, the crown, and the spear!" Chapter 53 "Dunny" I think the tower (which I think is Urithiru and can only be accessed from the sky via windrunning/teleportation) will be entered first by Kaladin and I think it'll be decked out with shard plate and shard blades. And Kaladin will hand them out to the worthy ones and Sadeas will lose his mind in jealousy (hey, dreams can happen xD). I also think Kaladin might finally learn/realize how to ride the storms during his fight with Szeth and will this will lead to him reaching Urithiru first and obtaining the crown and perhaps the heavily anticipated spear. I know I did a lot of "thinking" in this post so if I'm reaching too far out there just let me know lol. Edit: My only problem with this is that we all know what Kaladin thinks of crowns...and I wonder how much complaining he'll do before he finally accepts his destiny and wears it
  10. A lot of unnatural things seem to have a connection to the Nightwatcher, so I'm gonna put that out there. Also, I've always felt that Szeth's shardblade was just an accessory, especially during his assassination of the King of Jah Keved. His windrunner abilities seem to come naturally to him so it might be some random hereditary effect as well. But I think I'll stick with the Nightwatcher or the Old magic having a hand in it.
  11. Probably why the Parshendi will do anything to prevent the resurrection of their "gods"...
  12. I think Kaladin's gonna find a way to make Syl human by the end of the Stormlight Archives. I don't know how, but I believe in Kaladin x Sylphrena lol
  13. Thanks lol, im really looking forward to the next book, November can't come fast enough
  14. Well the heralds kind of just stuck theirs in a stone and walked off as well, we have no idea what might have happened to their shards. At least those "ignorant" peasants probably couldn't surgebind as well.
  15. Well they were obviously depressed about something since they gave up all that power and responsibility. We get excited when dalinar and kaladin abandon shardblades, but this is on a way higher scale. Edit: usually nothing sort of the pain of losing a loved one, or having the crux of your beliefs turn out to be a lie, could cause people to give up such power. Or maybe they were just tired of fighting.
  16. Well the ability he was using was described to derive from the protecting/leading ideal, and you could say that he wasn't able to use it to it's full potential until he said the ideal out loud. And since syl was attracted to him because of his desire to protect the many "tiens" he found in the army you could say that he was embodying the ideal from the beginning.
  17. Well based on the cape color, the lack of kholin glyphs and the spearbearer in carapace armor on the other side of the chasm, I thought it was kaladin and eshonai. Maybe whelan made several images, because the copy I read this year didn't have two swordbearers facing each other. Edit: the ones posted by phantom monstrosity are definitely different from what I've seen since the spearbearer had a sheild on his back in the version I saw.
  18. Risking the lives of his crew to save dalinars men was kaladins triumph over his hate for light eyes. He didn't stop distrusting them, but he also didnt allow the hate to keep him from doing the right thing. He's right not to trust them anyway, dalinar is just a freak exception for light eyes. Also, dalinar became honorable way too late in life, after enjoying the young life of a light eyes. That puts kaladin ahead I would think.
  19. Dalinar's cape is always blue, and on my book cover the far off person is holding a spear like Kaladin.
  20. I think we need to take a closer look at the THRILL. The way Dalinar describes it sounds too much like how Kaladin feels with stormlight. And those shardplates have stormlight infused gems... Edit: pretty sure this has been talked about in other threads
  21. If that is the case, then I still think it was some lingering result of the last desolation that took awhile to come into effect. They obviously all gave up for some reason, and we have very little information with which to make a guess. You could say that they all converted to cultivation's way of thinking and gave up fighting like the Shin, or they FINALLY realized what was done to Taln and gave up in disgust. It could be too many things but they definitely had a good reason. Edit: the only reason I assumed they quit after the last desolation was because they seemed to be coming back from a battle when they quit.
  22. Teft said each order of the radiants had 4 other ideals apart from the main one. And I consider all the lashings to fall under the protecting/leading ideal. Kaladin has been using them based on instinct and theres nothing showing that he's not already capable of the others. I suspect that they will uncover the other lashings with sigzils tests. The only category I could see having some variant form of lashing is the just/confident ideal that deals with exhalation instead of inhalation. Soulcasting obviously falls under one of the ideals, but is nothing like lashing, so the others must be interesting as well.
  23. I think the most important thing about how the rest of bridge four will gain windrunning abilities, is how the ideals work. During Nohadon's time, windrunners/surgebinders seemed to be a problem, because they were not "acting" honorable or they were being irresponsible with their powers. It is possible that after the leader of a Radiant group learns the words of an ideal, he can pass them on to his people. Therein lies a huge problem. Having the ideal show up in your mind and saying them of your own volition proves that you embody that ideal, but if a person can be given the words freely, without first proving themselves, that can give rise to a reckless use of power. Also, honorspren may be the spren best suited to helping people find the words of an ideal. They act as a sort of consience or accountability partner and help you reach the point were you can find the words of a certain ideal on your own. I bet Teft and kaladin will realize this, and since Kaladin's men follow his example, they will be the best set of surgebinders/windrunners on roshar.
  24. Personally, since everything I've read seems to point to the fact that the last desolation on Roshar was the one when the Heralds quit, I think the Radiants quit at the same time. It's just an assumption based on the various quotes, about how "the gods/heralds" lied about the last desolation being the "last" one, and how the Heralds always appeared to help when a desolation occurred. The heralds appeared at Nohadon's desolation (based on what he said to Dalinar), and they always appear when a desolation is underway. The radiants were apparently made after Nohadon's time and I assume that the Heralds also showed up for them, but the clincher is how Taln showed up at the end of WoK. If the Heralds always show up when a desolation is occurring, then I'm guessing that this current desolation is the first one since the Heralds quit, because this is the first time that only "one" herald has shown up to a desolation. If Taln had been the only one to show up the previous desolation, it would have been a well known fact, and people would be praying to him instead of Jezrien or Kelek/Kalak. Edit: This is all based on the fact that I assume the Radiants existed to fight in desolations, and since I also assume that this is Taln's first appearance since the beginning of his solo torment, It makes sense that the Heralds and Radiants quit at the end of the so-called "last" desolation.
  25. Since I think that Odium is responsible for the desolations, I think that Odium killed Honor before the desolations started. In fact, I think the shards of the heralds are all splinters of Honor. My lame theory is that there are 10 ideals, and each one unlocks one of the powers of surgebinding. I think that since each Radiant group had 4 ideals, that each radiant had four abilities. So only the the ones with the protecting/leading ideal could be windrunners, since that's the ability that ideals enabled. My truly lame idea is that kaladin is so honorable, that he will say all ten ideals, and reform the honor shard for the final battle with odium. This would require the other radiant leaders to be awesome enough to give him their shards so that he could bind them together. Please don't be too upset with my theory since I quit after the first mistborn book and never actually read about Ruin and Preservation, or the other shards, and I'm just using my own assumptions from what i've pieced together. But seriously, Kaladin is such an awesome "child of honor" that he might say all 10 ideals (one in each of the 10 books), and his personality/honor and Honor's might be so similar that he'd be able to do what he wanted (like rayse) and kill Odium.
