Long Game 7: The Annealing of Luthadel
Wyrmhero replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'd just like to thank all the people who took part in this game. While I might have run it for your enjoyment, its the players themselves who make it worth running. We definitely had some memorable characters, and I was always excited to see what players came up with for their House Balls. I think everyone seemed to enjoy playing the game just as much as I did running it, which is good. My goal was always to get people to enjoy playing the game, after all. I would be very willing to run this again in the future - maybe with a few less mistakes and better balance, this time! So overall, thank you for your participence, your patience, and for being such great players. I look forward to seeing you all when I next GM.- 657 replies

Good to know, GM. Be sure to inform us of what it was when we finish this game! Also, I keep thinking about it, and I will vote for Rulit. (I'd be grateful if a mod could fix this to look good, since I am on my phone). If he did send that message then he's not going to be a Skybreaker (I doubt they would put themselves on the line, amd there's Gamma's thing), but we shall see. Its unlikely we'll maintain our track record though, either way.
-
Hmm. There are only three places where that message could have come from, assuming it is not misdirection. That message was either from the other Windrunner, from a Squire, or from an Eliminator. I am of the opinion that this is from the Windrunner, which would explain why they didn't say anything about their actions last Cycle - they thought it would come out in the discussion anyway. I wish you'd mentioned this earlier, would've saved a lot of hassle. If it is misdirection, then that requires either Binnut to be lying or both Skybreaker and Henchman to be doing that. I'd suggest scanning Rulit, but I guess we'll find out anyway, with how the votes are headed. Maybe one of my not-crossed out ones? I also agree that writing styles are likely to be masked, but not everyone may think of this. Hrm... I will post the message I was sent from Jain on the previous Cycle since it's a bit more evidence for us to use: Do people think that it is protesting too much? There are a lot of differences between the two messages though - he calls me Wyrm rather than Wurum, and does use positive contractions. Also a completely different tone, of course. Again, misdirection? I don't know. I could talk myself in circles here. I'm going to break completely from my usual tradition, and not vote. Edit: It occurs to me that this was Cycle 2, so I was meant to die then. So, it was probably rather unlikely an Eliminator would've sent me a message. I'm also changing the target of my plans to 'Why'.
-
Since there's no point in me hiding my code anymore, since it'll mean nothing to anyone else anyway... My actions for tonight are: 'An, He' I am choosing to Squire the next person on your list instead of on mine. Why yes, I do think stealth is overrated, why do you ask? Before I head off, I think I will vote for Rulit as well, since he tried to lead a vote on Ashiok this Cycle, and combined with the message that was apparently recieved, that's suspicious to me. Let's see whether this pays off or not.
-
Well, the reason here would be that if they do use the kill, then they get the dying player's coins. So they're already somewhat punished for not doing it. The problem is that coins aren't intended to be a massive mechanic like in your QF game, just a little flavour and bribery. So I'm not sure whether players would get into that sort of spirit.
-
Agreed, far too easy for someone else to claim the same one if he's lying. So you didn't message anyone? Noted... Also, did QC not say she was going to post something 12 hours ago? Updated List Edit: When you post your analysis, Tulir, be sure to mention who you messaged last Cycle.
-
Then assuming it was actually a Ketek, then we can cross you off the list (assuming you're not both Eliminators). However, why keep your vote on Aladdin? That's just not helpful at this point. A lynch would give us information, yes, but we would get more over the next 12 hours by questioning instead of keeping things as they are, combined with that eventual lynch. And as I have said before, Aladdin can't be the guy we're looking for currently, since he messaged Gamma instead. The Eliminators want to kill Aladdin off for some reason, so we shouldn't do their work for them.
-
In order, Meta: That should actually be three coins per Cycle - One for voting, one for voting, one for not gambling. A minimum bid would make sense. They would therefore be able to announce the minimum they have set it to in-thread. If the lynched player hasn't got enough coins to give everyone at least one, then no-one will get one, correct. I agree with removing the last ability from the Spinner. I was considering removing it anyway. Something that was suggested on my document was that if a player doesn't use the Random Kill, then they are killed instead. In this case, I would make it indistinguishable from someone else killing them. However, I feel this leads to too much knee-jerk play, and I'm not entirely sure if that's what I want. However, it would definitely make people use that kill. What do people think about that?
-
Noted, Mailliw. That doesn't matter too much though. What was the nature of the strange message you received, Jerric? I note that you did not say if you sent a message or not. Also important to note, I still don't know who my ally targeted last Cycle. Those of you who are still voting for Ashiok, retract your votes. We know he's not the one who sent that strange message, so he can't be the Eliminator we're looking for. The current suspects for the one who sent that message are: Serji, Jain, Kaladen, Quismet, Rulit, Tunnib, Gart, Tahrin. Of this list, Jain, Rulit and Gart voted once, for Meta, and Tunnib voted for Joe. So let's cross Tunnib off the list, considering it would also be too easy to turn this around on him. I think we might be able to basically declare Kaladen and Quismet as inactive (though it could be a cover, of course). So, I want to hear who Serji, Jain, Rulit and Gart sent messages to. For the time being, I'll vote for Jain, since I have previously noted his protesting too much. Edit: Retracting my vote for Jain, based on re-reading the message Binnut recieved. Anyone else think that it sounds like Serji?
-
Nope, that's perfectly fine, thank you. I'm just glad I didn't reveal it fully so people could easily claim it. So mark twelth off the list, guys. I'll do so myself tomorrow when I am at my computer. Also, Alvron, I did enjoy reading that. Wonderfully poetic, considering I've been sending spam messages to those I recruit
-
But you said that you thought he was innocent. So why did you think him innocent despite the fact that he had to be guilty?
-
I did not Full Lash last night, as I used it on Meta on Cycle 2. I don't know who my fellow Windrunner Full Lashed last night, annoyingly. Hopefully that information will be given to me by tomorrow morning, so we can clear someone else off our lists. I'd still like to know why you voted for Metam despite thinking him innocent though.
-
That's a very good point there, Gamma. Thanks for clarifying that before we made a terrible mistake. Okay, ignore my vote for Mailliw . We do still need Gamma's confirmation on receiving a message from Ashiok (or not) though.
-
Though everyone has access to the Venture House docs, and it was well known that Tonul was a member of House Venture in the previous game, so it's not difficult to fake a message including those two words. More importantly, was this message received last Cycle, or before?
-
So you would need to know a persons' metals when you spike them and pick one of them, or else you'll receive a random one? Also, I would definitely say to start small with this game. Balancing will be hard enough without all the masses of extra players involved. Making it a longer cycle might work as well, since it decreases the pressure of getting things done quickly and eliminates the need for the deadline to move around all the time. You could close a thread at turnover time, stop people writing in Google Docs, and then start the new thread/let people in when the next cycle opens, to ensure that people don't pass information on when they shouldn't..
-
I never recieved that message. If you are telling the truth, then this suggests that there is a second Henchman, who we have also made a Squire. Oy... Well, at least it's not Gamma or Aonar. That means there's only one choice for them, and if it is them, then I am very disappointed in us Windrunners for recruiting them on the same bloody Cycle >>. Obviously I speak of Mailliw, since Meta revealed all the other Squires before he died. So either Binnut or Mailliw is an Eliminator. If Mailliw, then he is a Henchman (assuming Binnut isn't an Eliminator and wouldn't offer a Skybreaker up like this). This does also mean that he both messaged and Reverse Lashed me on the same Cycle, which could just be misdirection. Note that both Meta and Mailliw have tried to lynch Ashiok on previous Cycles (before Mailliw placed the fourth vote on Meta). Also, why did Mailliw vote for Meta if he didn't think Meta was evil? Both of the last two posts on Cycle 2 by Mailliw sound off to me. If Mailliw is innocent, then Binnut is not, or Aonar decided to Reverse Lash me of all people, which I'm pretty sure we can immediately discount. This would mean that Binnut did indeed vote for and sacrifice a Henchman on Cycle 2, and he's most likely our Skybreaker. However, I do not think this anywhere near as likely, since he's basically offering himself up after one more Cycle if so. Edit: Do send in those messages with signatures though. Even if Mailliw is an Eliminator, I would prefer to see if we can narrow it down and lynch the Skybreaker if at all possible, rather than kill a Henchman. The discrepency should be obvious if we get a list of all the players who sent and received messages.
-
If that's true (and I can't believe it wouldn't be, considering how easy it would be for Gamma to say you didn't message him), that means that either Binnut is lying, or someone is pretending to be Ashiok and get him lynched. Not surprising, considering how haphazard he's been, Ashiok'd make a good choice for a lynch. So I think we can probably rule Ashiok out as a suspect, in this case. I want Binnut to post the entire message (if that's allowed, come to think of it). There are two simple options here: 1) Binnut is an Elimminator, and the vote on the first day was either accidental or a ruse. 2) Binnut was targeted by an Eliminator for a message as he was trusted from his lynch of Jeno. He could then be lynched after Ashiok for lying the next day. I am doubtful that it is a lie on Binnut's part. It would be ridiculous of him to try such a thing without knowing where Ashiok sent his last message. So, we need to look at players who did not sign messages last Cycle. I received messages claiming to be from: Gamma, [no idea], Mailliw, Alvron and luckat. If anyone did not send me messages like that, say so. If anyone wants to own up to the spam one, please do so by quoting the full message. List of players, crossed out with who can't have sent that message according to what I received last night: Anyone else got messages with signatures to claim?
-
...All I can say, New One, is that you must be insane to consider running that. If not, then you will be afterwards . In all seriousness, speaking from a GM perspective, it will be very difficult to get things right in such a complex game like that. I had difficulty with mine, and that was just 2 roles a night, let alone people having different numbers of actions each and the possibility of actions combining in weird and wonderful ways depending on which numbered action they are. How many people do you want for a game like this? Also, one small rules question that stood out to me: what happens if you atium spike a Mistborn and ask to take their allomantic powers from them?
-
I'm afraid I can't help you much with this in general (I too would love more information on the Steel Ministry and the religion of The Lord Ruler in general), but I can tell you that in Wrought of Copper, the Terrisman supplemental book to MAG, a fifth Canton is mentioned. The Canton of Hegemony was in charge of the Terris Dominance after it was conquered. They're the ones responsible for the whole system of subjugation in place there to stop Feruchemists from being born, and went around killing any Terrismen with familial connections to Feruchemists. They were disbanded an undisclosed amount of time after, however, and the Canton of Inquisition took over their job. Unfortunately, even WoC doesn't have much information on them - They're mentioned twice, and I've just said all the information we have on them. So we basically see that while more Cantons existed in the past, they became a part of other, less specialised ones. I wouldn't be surprised if Resource and Finance were merged into one later down the line, and we basically see the death of the Canton of Orthodoxy, or at least it losing a good chunk of its work, when the Inquisition takes over the Steel Ministry. So I think it's pretty likely there are only four by the time of the books, but more definitely did exist in the past.

"Don't be ridiculous," Wurum muttered, glancing at the Truthwatcher carefully out of the corner of his eye. "Your order always jumps at shadows." He was grateful that he stood far enough back to avoid most of the fool's splashing. He'd already had one suit ripped by these attacks, he didn't need another stained by someone who should be an ally. Come to think of it, I would like to know what Naihar's reasonings were for defending Metam, though he never got around to it.
-
Wurum held his arm out in front of him, and his Shardblade burst into mist, only to be replaced by the small figure of a Spren. He smiled a little as he walked away from Metam's body. He pointed at one of his more trusted enforcers, and then back behind him. The man scooped up the dead Shardblade with something akin to reverence in his eyes, though he knew he would probably not be allowed to keep it. No, it wasn't just him. All the townsfolk were staring at him with that sort of look, when they weren't giving the same treatment to the now-appropriately-named Famed Gamin. Breathing in the last of his current Stormlight, he lashed himself away in a somewhat selfish fit of showmanship. It's good to be The King. I believe I know who got Full Lashed this cycle, and will eliminate them from my considerations, considering the second kill went through. Nope, no idea. At this point, I'm surprised that Meta was a Skybreaker. I was starting to doubt, near the end. In addition to that, the futher I read that (excellent) writeup, the more I was convinced it was going to be a 'mutual' kill (i.e, we lynch Meta, Meta's ally kills me). And they hit the Truthwatcher as well, which means that over two Cyles, they hit almost half the Roles they needed to kill. I'm not sure whether that's luck or not. I'd be most interested in who Meta tried to attack last Cycle. Kind of a shame that you'd already checked Meta out, really. Would've been nice to have a different player confirmed. Ah well, we're doing well enough that that's not a problem for us. Even if we have got 2/3rds of us revealed. As for who should be Basic Lashed... That's a difficult question. Both myself and Gamma need protecting, but for different reasons. Gamma has lost a life and is the only way to prove guilt or innocence in this game for definite, whereas if a Windrunner dies, then we lose a guaranteed pair of Lashings every pair of Cycles, and won't be able to protect him the next time. Still, there are currently 5 Squires, 4 Squires not including Gamma, since he shouldn't need to use a Lashing if possible. That means we are likely to have a Full Lash in the hands of a good Squire (though they should probably target Gamma, since he's in there with them, and my ally Basic Lash me. Finally, I got five messages last night. One from Gamma, berating me for picking Meta as a Squire (In response, I was so Storming careful that I stopped him from doing anything the same Cycle ), one simply saying 'spam', one bit of actual spam (Though at least it wasn't from an Alethi Highprince with 1,000,000 diamond broams locked away in his bank account...), and two other bits. As for analysing the previous votes... It's difficult to say. We're still really early into the game, so we don't have much information to go on. The only reason we got Joe was due to inactivity and luck, and the reason we got Meta was because he's a high-profile player which, sadly for him this game, makes people test his loyalties. People who voted for Metam before he revealed himself, in order: Wurum, Famed Gamin, Mallaw People who didn't vote for Metam until he revealed himself, in order: Rulit, Jain, Lyce I can't find Aladdin's vote for Metam in the previous thread? But he voted for Metam at some point too. One of these seven other than myself and Gamma (since he cleared Aonar) was also Full Lashed by my ally and hence declared innocent of being a Skybreaker. Unfortunately, I'm not sure who my ally picked, since they never mentioned it to me first. I can also possibly discount a few people who sent me messages last night, I think. Obviously, I'm not certain, nor did the other Skybreaker necessarily bandwagon a vote. But considering we have so few votes this game, I don't think a straight vote analysis will help us much here. I won't vote yet, but I 100% agree with that Gamma says. We should not rely on Illumination or Full Lashings to reveal anything immediately useful. While we could use it to get up to two confirmations each day, it will take us a long time to get this done right, and it is vulnerable to disruption as well (with our deaths, for instance). I always tell people to discuss and vote, and this game is no exception. To start things off properly, why haven't Serji, Twlv, Tahrin or Naihar voted yet?
-
I would say that the other Windrunner should be Full Lashing people this cycle, but I'm not sure whether or not they'll be doing the same as me and Full Lashing whoever they Squire. We didn't get quite into that sort of strategy, though I did suggest it. I think I would suggest that they Full Lash their recruitment target today as I did yesterday, if they get on in time to change their action this Cycle. Don't Full Lash a current Squire though, since I need to be defended today. Also, to the Truthwatcher, don't bother Illuminating Meta unless he's not going to be lynched today for sure. No point wasting an action like that, after all. If we've Squired you, check the other Squires out. If not, then just continue as you were. I'm sure you have a plan. Maybe send me a code tonight (but not your name, of course), as we discussed for Meta. I will confirm whether or not I received a message from the Truthwatcher in the morning, and we can use that to identify innocents. Don't post that code before I confirm receiving it. It would also be best if there was a signal I could give specific to your PM, so that someone else doesn't send me another code.

Enough was enough, Wurum decided. Taking his diamond broam in hand, he moved it up to his mouth, and inhaled. Immediately, his eyes became alight. His wounds healed, and his breath left in a misty vapour. He stood up, flexing his arms and torso a little. Satisfied with the quality of his healing, he stood up. What a difference Stormlight made to a broken body. His Spren flittered around him, before eventually settling on his shoulder, invisible to almost all around. Unfortunately, his reign as the town's Stormwarden was probably over. Technically it was his Spren who gave him all the answers. Honourspren did say they were daughters of the Stormfather, after all. It only made sense that she could tell him when they would occur, and their severity. That was why he could be so accurate. But they would probably stop paying him for it, which was a shame. Well, she did always complain that none of the money was ever sent her way. Maybe they'd employ her as the Stormwarden instead. At times like this though, no matter how he tried to take his mind off matters, the Second Ideal was always in the forefront of his mind. It was strange, at times, to reconcile the two halves of his life - Slightly illegal entrepreneur and Windrunner - but it wasn't impossible. It just needed a slightly different perspective. Whether this town knew it or not, he defended it from the Lighteyes who would exploit it, and nurtured its growth. The other Windrunners thought small, going around and dealing with the small injustices they saw here and there on their travels. Wurum looked at the bigger picture, slowly building the town up to be a fairer, better place. And now, he had some Skybreakers to track down. Their own unique brand of justice was flawed, if it could allow the deaths of innocents in their wake. "I will protect those who cannot protect themselves", he muttered. Well, for as long as he could, anyway. Illuminating Meta might work, and it can be done over one cycle. If everyone does message me, then we have a much lower chance of the Truthwatcher's message being grabbed. They could set up a method in that message to pass the results over in the thread after I give the all-clear. They should not tell me who they are - The thread response would reveal this to me. If I do not receive the message, then we know both that something's gone wrong, and I was unlucky with my being Reverse Lashing. They could then pass extra results on with the same code, potentially. The issue here is if a Squire does not have a Basic Lashing, and I die. I decided to reveal myself because it's pretty much obvious anyway from the fact that I was protected on the first Cycle, and we need this info out there to help clarify things - I am a Windrunner, and my partner saved me last night. Amusingly, this was not meant to happen, but there was a surprisingly but pleasant change of plans. But obviously, I need a Squire to protect me, as I cannot protect myself. I also Squired Meta last night, and Full Lashed him at the same time. The idea behind it was that it minimised the risk of bringing him in, as I could softconfirm him on the same Cycle. Meta's too dangerous to leave alone in a game like this, but at the same time, he's too useful not to put in a position of information. I know this all too well from LG7. As we can see, this has at least brought something for us. But if not Meta, then who this cycle? I was attacked last night, and I'm not sure of whether or not there was a reason behind it. I don't think I had blown my cover at that point, so there are three options - Random experienced player (unlikely, in my opinion, with others still alive), because I voted for Jain (also unlikely unless Jain is a Skybreaker and is being erratic again) or because of my choice of Squire. I sent a message to that Squire, and while it did not contain my name, it could probably be guessed at from the nature of my message and my speaking style. However, that would require the Squire to be a Skybreaker, already relatively low odds.I am not too suspicious of him currently, so I'm not sure. My partner knows who I am talking about though, so even if I am killed, the truth should eventually come out (unless they die too, but...). So, who am I suspicious of? Meta, for reasons stated previously of Full Lashings and deaths not happening. Gamma, for voting for Jerric last Cycle. Seemed to me that Jerric was just being helpful. Perhaps Gamma was trying to discourage people using his method, perhaps not. Still something notable. Jain, for popping on to post during this event and not actually saying anything about it, but just RPing. Ashiok, ish. He's being weird, but that's not exactly new. I guess I put him on the same level as Jain there, though he has at least discussed stuff, which is a point in his favour. At this point, I think Meta would give us the most information, as if he is not a Skybreaker/Eliminator, then it tells us that they didn't use their kill last night, and he was Reverse Lashed. If no Squire reveals that they did it, then we can be pretty sure that it was a Skybreaker/Eliminator who did so. As such, either one of the first two Squires is an Eliminator and a Skybreaker is inactive, or the Skybreakers skipped a kill to Reverse Lash Meta. I'll admit, Reverse Lashing Meta still doesn't ring true to me, when he could have just been neutralised instead. As such, my vote will remain where it is, for now.

"Storms!" The pain was getting worse, rather than better. Wurum's hand was almost permenantly to his side, and he felt as though that was all that was keeping his ribs in place right now. To make things even worse, that petty thief Gamad had stolen some of his food, and he wasn't able to do much about it. Well, not directly. A few of his associates would be along to rough Gamad up a little when he left later. But it was just so disappointing to have to do things like that. It lacked the personal touch, something he usually prided himself on. At least his accusation of the doomsayer seemed to be provoking discussion, which was nice. It was just such a shame that there were some circles that neither he nor his informants were privy to. Though the world was a strange place if a doomsayer like Metam could be recruited like that, over the others here. Perhaps this village just had slim offerings when it came to Squire-material. Sighing, he washed down the remains of his food with some of the tavern's ale before getting out some paper to write on. Even injured as he was, he had a lot of work to do, and not all of it nefarious. I'm not so sure that such a thing works there, Gamma. If we declared that we wanted a Windrunner to Full Lash Meta, then they'd just sacrifice a kill to get Meta killed for free and set us back by a day. At this point, I'm also doubtful that they would skip a kill so easily. While it ensures we have more targets to lynch instead of the real Eliminators, they're skipping over a lot of dangerous players at that small expense. Basically, why would they not kill Gamma or Meta or Aonar or Mailliw, if they had the opportunity? An alternative possibility is if one of the Squires who was recruited on Cycle 1 can come forward and reveal that they Reverse Lashed Meta. That would at least tell us if he was telling the truth about that. Or at least, one of them could confirm in-doc, and Meta could relate this to us. They could easily call him out if he was lying about it not being said, after all, and that would most likely mean that Meta's an Eliminator. Meta is our Squire-spokesperson (Spokesquire? Squireperson?), and so anything that the Squires wish to add anonymously should come through him, since he can't Ruin what they say.
-
You were Squired, Reverse Lashed AND Full Lashed in one Cycle? Interesting. That kind of suggests that in general, you're both trusted and not trusted. If someone Squired said that they sent you a message in the doc, then I am certainly inclined to believe that then. I am still hesitant to believe that the Skybreakers would Reverse Lash you instead of Divide you though. Why do you think they may not have used both kills, if the Full Lashing isn't to blame?
