  1. I get the feeling they should have done something similar from the start. SF says that they could share the burdens of Damnation with each other because of their bond to the Oathpact, but if all the Heralds are being tortured, I don't think it works well. A single Herald would be sharing their pain with the other nine, but also receiving some of the pain of the other nine. They're essentially playing a zero-still game. If, however, only one Herald (Taln) goes to Damnation, he gets to offload much of his pain to the others without receiving any in return. This would also explain why the other 9 Heralds went insane. They've each been receiving a portion of Taln's pain. Only a fraction of the pain they'd receive on Braize, but over 4,500 years, it was enough to drive then all mad. Of course, it didn't matter if they broke anyway because they were already on Roshar.
  2. We get Shalash viewpoints in OB. Really unlikely that she's Shashara.
  3. Yeah, based on Odium taking Vargo that Dalinar Ascended... it sounds like Dalinar may be a mini-Honor now.
  4. Okay, but even that's a little suspect. We know that Heralds would die during Desolations. We also know that Radiants with stormlight are pretty much indestructible until they run out. So, this "direct connection to Honor" probably doesn't mean limitless Investiture. If it did, how would the Heralds ever die? Also, if the honorblades can do more than grant surgebinding even now that Honor is dead... I have to imagine there's something more to them than what's been let on.
  5. Whoa, really? Even if you have a number? I didn't expect to need to get there so early, I get off work at 3 and have to drive down there from Long Beach. Sorry, should've been more clear. They have a max capacity in the store of 300. They're only allowing that many in for the reading and Q&A, but they'll have speakers set up outside so everyone can hear it. After the reading and Q&A, they'll send everyone outside, and then do the signing portion about 100 people at a time by ticket number. Edit: Moved this to the SD event thread to avoid cluttering the other thread more than we already have.
  6. 145. Already picked up my copy. Not sure how early you plan on getting there, but they said they'll be closing the inside off when they reach max capacity (300 people). Wife and I are planning on getting there around 4:30.
  7. Yes. It's from TWoK, right around the time that Kaladin first finds out what he's doing iirc. It kind of makes sense right? The First Ideal is the same across all Orders, so there's obviously a greater emphasis on it. Moreover, some orders seem to care a lot less about the following oaths. Lightweavers speak different truths. Szeth got to make up his own Third Ideal for the Skybreakers. Teft's Third Ideal was materially different from Kaladin's. Yet, they all have the exact same First Ideal.
  8. Yeah, Oathpact is gone, but we're not done with this yet. Why were the Fused scared of killing Jezrien? Why did it have to be Moash? Also, the Stormfather indicated that there's something greater to the honorblades: What else can an honorblade grant besides access to the surges? The Oathpact (as originally devised) may be on its way out, but there's something else here which I feel is going to play a huge part in the series.
  9. If you don't know what that's in reference to, you probably don't want to be reading the all-spoilers-allowed forum until you're done with Oathbringer.
  10. It's quite the colorful name, right?
  11. My personal theory is that he needs greater Connection to Maya in order to revive her. If only he were a duralumin compounder, it would be a cake walk.
  12. Unless Cultivation gave him to the capacity to save the world by becoming a weak link for Odium.
  13. If you aren't party of the mailing list, you probably missed this but from Mysterious Galaxy: I'll be going with the non-express line.
  14. My wife and I will be there around 5ish. Who else is going ?
  15. Renarin: Hi, some people think I'm weird. Others think I'm creepy. Malata: Dalinar is weirded out by my smile, and yeah, Shallan doesn't like me either. [Renarin grips his fidget box tightly] ...Yup, I can see it. This is a good one.
  16. My understanding is that Peter sometimes lies, so the canonical value of WoP can be somewhat less than "less certain."
  17. I don't know if you guys are being serious or not. If you're joking, please stop. This is a serious thread (super serious), and we all know Lift doesn't age. It won't matter if the back 5 books are 100 years later. She'll still be too young.
  18. Yeah, I thought about that, but Lift is just way too young. I doubt Brandon is going to set up a 13-year-old with some cradle-robbing dinner.
  19. My understanding is that location spoofing in iOS is pretty difficult (I don't do Apple, so someone else might have a better idea), and the latest versions of Android make it pretty easy to tell with location is being spoofed. Still if I thought this was something that might work, I'd probably have tried it. Amazon employs some pretty decent engineers, so I doubt something like a release time is going to be anything but a UTC timestamp.
  20. Oh, I expect them to meet off scene, and all we're going to see is Re-Shephir making a Midnight Essence that looks like an Amian with a bunch of tattoos. Discerning readers will probably notice that one of the tattoos will be "Ax <3's RS," but we'll have to spend quite a bit of time deciphering the Amian script to get our proof. Edit: just saw your bit about Amaram and Laral. Of course they're a thing, and they're very serious, just like everything else in my post .
  21. It's possible, but not likely. Most likely, Amazon has a single UTC time when the ebook is made available worldwide, and that would be determined server-side. If they do have different ebook release times based upon location, you'll probably need to spoof your location as well.
  22. Okay, with just about a day before Oathbringer is released, we need to talk about something important: What couples will we be shipping this time next week? This is no laughing matter. We could talk about the obvious couples, like Zahel/Vivenna, Dalinar/Navani, and Amaram/Laral (Kaladin doesn't have enough reasons to hate Amaram already). Instead, let's talk about some more esoteric portmanteaus we are going to ship. Here are my top 5 Super-Likely-To-Happen Couples: Szallan (Szeth and Shallan). Sorry to disappoint the Shadolin and Shaladin shippers, but this one is a forgone conclusion. Shallan is crazy. Super crazy. She also murdered her parents. Adolin and Kaladin love their parents too much to stick with Shallan after everyone finds out how she strangled her father (while singing!). Thankfully, all hope isn't lost for Shallan. There's another character who can totally relate to Shallan on a crazy-unhinged-psycho-murderer level: Szeth. Expect this heart-warming love story to bring you tears. I do. Venladin (Venli and Kaladin). Of the many reasons for Kaladin's time with the escaped parshment, one is so obscure, it's almost like it's not even there. He's going to have feelings for Venli. He's starting to see the listeners as people. He's empathizing with them. He's going to help lead and protect them, just like Kevin Costner in Dances with Wolves, Zak in FernGully, and Jake Sully in Avatar. In doing so, he'll help redeem one Parshendi who has been broken by her ambition. Kaladin may hate lighteyes, but that's not going to be a problem in this relationship. The WoB everyone will want is whether their children will look more Horneater or Herdazian. RAFO! Axi-ephir (Axies and Re-Shephir). Axies is all about the spren, so just wait until he meets Re-Shephir. Sparks are going to fly. He's an Amian with a habit of getting locked up. She's an Unmade with a history of imprisonment. Put 'em together it just makes sense! Like a snowman in summer! (My daughters discovered Frozen this weekend; those blasted songs are stuck in my head right now). Jasnaln (Jasnah and Taln). Jasnah embodies logic. Thematically, she needs someone who doesn't rely on logic. She needs the Kirk to her Spock. What better than someone who seems to lack logic completely? Good thing Amaram (hopefully) brought Taln to Urithiru. Trouble will start to brew when it turns out Taln may not actually be Taln, but Jasnaln will not waiver. At a crucial moment, logical Jasnah will sacrifice herself to save Roshar (and make some weird hand gesture which nobody will get), but Taln, knowing too well how bad the "needs of the many / needs of the few" can go for a person, will destroy an entire planet (Ashyn) in order to save her. Expect this couple to be as solid as rock (stone). Adolash (Adolin and Shalash). These are the best looking people on Roshar, and she's not going to have an issue with his murderous tendencies. She likes destroying stuff too!. Of course they're going to end up together. The Vorin nobility will be shocked at how quickly he breaks things off with the cute one (Shallan), but who can hate such beautiful people? Shalash will bring her adopted son to the relationship. Together, Adolash will adopt two more children before having their own child a couple years later and twins the year after that. It'll be quite the Kholin'Elin brood running about. They will publicly state an unwillingness to marry until Kaladin and Venli get the right to marry, but after almost a decade, they'll tie the knot anyways. Unfortunately, this one isn't meant to last, and they will break it off a couple years later. Hopefully, this story arc will satisfy @maxal. Well, those are my picks. Which ones do you guys think I missed? tl;dr Just wait until a certain (permanently) masked lady meets up with a humorous (and glowy) Herdazian!
  23. I'm not going to go and find them all, but there are all the couples Adolin was friends with when he was courting Danlan. I think we see some more of them in WoR during some of the date scenes he has with Shallan.
  24. Doesn't it seem obvious though? The question wasn't about who was the deadliest in a fight. It was who's the most dangerous: the warlord tyrant, the unhinged girl, or the guy who just wants to do right by the world? Of course Kaladin is the least dangerous, but that doesn't mean he couldn't whoop the other two (at current power levels).
