  1. Sorry, the historical discussion is quite nice, but it must be applied to present day Urithiru: The ultimate ruler of Urithiru is the sibling and their bondsmith. They are quite convenient both unconscient at the moment There are a plethora of functioning examples of democracy in cites at the time of the European middle ages. They did not last eternally and were strictly restricted to the city - the peasants of villages getting into their control were treated as feudal subjects just like everywhere else. The old Alethy light eyes aristocracy is severely diminished in power and reputation and cannot prevent anything. They would certainly become a faction after the fact. The new power, the Radiants would another faction, but at the moment they lack enough coherence to constitute an oligarchy. Whithout a working tower the situation would be different, because everything would depend on their control of the oathgates. Provided Urithiru could survive. democracy does not mean equality as we all too well know. It does not even electoral rights for everyone. For example, if Rlain has these rights, it will certainly lead to deep resentmens on the human side. And it would not even mean, that non-Radiant Singers have the same the same rights This all applies only to Urithiru. Every discussion of Alethkar is hypothetical, because Alethkar is gone for good. Every argument brought up against democracy is certainly valid for Jah Keved Meaning yes, Jasnah can and will introduce democracy in Urithiru. What is means can be visited in book 6
  2. I am sorry, but in the books, that I have read, Adolin let himself be imprisoned next to Kaldin after the second time. Actions speek louder than words and that broke the ice between them. Shallan's part in the chasm scene did not hurt either. Less her direct effort, that I find clumsy, more that she could convince him, that she is a human being, so Light-Eyes can be human beings. I would even state, that these are main influences for Kaladin to rethink the Elhokar assassination attempt. Btw I do not use the term Mary-Sue. IMO the term is derogative against book characters and that means derogative against the people who love them.
  3. Let us remember, that all lore in SA is POV driven. If the POVs are told half-truths, it is very sift out the facts. The Stormfather ist the very problem in the picture. He can lie and when he told us, that spren cannot lie, he lied through his teeth. That means, nothing of what the Stormfather has said, can be assumed canon any longer. Furthermore the Stormfather is the mixed entity of cognitive shadow of Tanavast and a splinter of Honor. Features of the Stormfather need not be features of the shard Honor. To refer to Your original post: We have been conned, certainly, but it is no retcon.

    Hello

Favorite character: Shallan. When I was beginnning to read SA some weeks before OB, I encountered an unexperienced ,naive, in her own perception timid girl ... And then Shallan would steal it (Jasnah's Soulcaster). Sanderson, Brandon. The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, Book 1) (S.89). Tom Doherty Associates. Kindle-Version. That got my attention. Now here was a girl going not to heaven but everywhere. She has not disappointed. WoR came next. I was moved by her backstory and admired her resolve and creativity. But I perceived her basically as a YA heroine. And then came Oathbringer and I was horrified. But soon after I got a lot of free time between jobs. I dug into her character and began to see her. Since then she is my favorite fantasy character. Least favorite character: Far more difficult, as I hold no grudges against ficional characters. But if I can choose, I pick Dilaf: the villain side and the human side never fit together in my memory. Magic system: Lumar, but Emberdark could replace it. I just like the idea of floating wreck cobbled together from all cheap and available sources and devices. Favorite magic system:

    Hello

Well that is a difficult question. Least favorite is far simpler: Nale's highspren Most favorite: could become Bar-Ado-Mishram. She is so different from what everybody expected and seems to be pretty decent. That is Stormlight Archive for us, there is enough space to create myths and deconstruct them in the next books. But I withhold judgement without further knowledge.
  6. I finished reading and I am super content. Last week in between I was super euphoric. My order of preference is: WoR, WaT, OB, WoK, RoW What I absolutely loved (besides the epic skope - I am an absolute fan of epic fantasy with its sprawling stories and side stories) is that it was impossible to immerse into the environemnt, everything changed. it brought the charakter-arcs to a conclusion and turned the tables for the second half at the same time. It had everything. Some minor quibbling: Gavinior: The idea ot the child champion is ok, the boy is a plot device. Compare that to the masterful writing of Evi, who many authors would have fridged. What were the ghostbloods, their respective factions up to? I do not know. Worse, there is a decent chance, that it becomes plot relevant in Mistborn-Era 3, or that Shallan will make a guest appearance (without charakter development??). That would break certain promises, that are already stretched to the limit. Exported earth terminoly: to comment another thread, I am absolutely ok with modern language. Far better than the language of Sir Walter Scott and Tolkien - European Middle Age seen through the lens of European Romantic. But to use a term like (psycho)therapy means to include all the mental associations from Siegmund Freud to the American handbook ( sorry, do not know the name as a German). If Roshar invents the concept, it should invent their terminoly too. A question to the Azimir plotline. It was stated, that reinforcements coulld not come, because split-off of the vassal states But the troupes made the bulk of the coalition's conventional army. I am a military layman, but shouldn't they have split with one part doing delaying action and one part hastening with all speed to Azir? Was that ever discussed? Ok, that should be enough, other parts, when I come to or if I find threads for them.
  7. I am Knut, long-time lurker. Cosmere-wise I have read it all (at least, I thnk I have). And I am in it for Shallan. I am from outside the English-speaking lands and I am a bit older. Yes I need pants.
