Friend issues are real So… I woke up yesterday morning with an intense abdominal pain, and it turns out I had appendicitis! Yay! /s So yeah, yesterday was kinda crazy for me, but now the surgery is over and I’m just resting in the hospital. I should be able to go home this afternoon. I can’t go to school for a week, which is kinda good and bad at the same time cause I don’t enjoy it but I’ve also already missed like a week and a half and will need to make up even more work. So yeah. That’s my life right now, I guess

Are you a viru-us?” Just in case, 209845 readied its zapping capabilities. “Hmm… you mo-o-ortals really have a u-unique definition of enjo-o-o-o-oyment.” 209845 looked around at the odd selection of characters around it. A medley group that had somehow formed together in such a short span of time. And yet, many of their origins were left unknown. What of the wizard, the elf nomad, even the person who had just randomly stumbled upon them in the literal middle of nowhere. Was the real world really this random? Or was something else going on…

You’re not stupid. Sometimes you can look a little stupid, but the people who judge you for that will always be the more stupid ones. Yeah. I feel that too sometimes. Especially today. But… that will pass. We will feel better, and have opportunities to fix our mistakes. So it’s going to be okay. You got this.

No… unless Lati had some way to intercept its thoughts, in which case it ought to start worrying a lot more… 209845 turned its attention back to its task. The route seemed viable, even optimal. It turned to call back to the others. ”I have fou-u-und a way do-own!” It exclaimed, still thinking about Lati’s comment.

209835 dragged its attention away from the party. Something was off about that fox; beneath its innocent exterior hid a dark deepens of power. And yet, 209845 feared it was the only one here appropriately frightened. On the bright side, it might provide another excuse to stay with this group… yes, an excuse. 209845 could not forget that it was still on mission. It owed no service to these people, and would do well to remember so. But why did it feel like this was where it belonged?

209845 grew worried, glitching faster. Had it accidentally revealed too much? But no… it had been careful. How could they possibly detect its subterfuge? ”No-o-o-o, you ca-an’t. It’s impo-o-ossible-e.” If the Clouds operations were compromised because of 209845’s slip-up…

As an agent of the Clou-u-u-ud, I am able to project-ect anywhere instantane-eously-y-y.” 209845 found a relatively sloped trail heading down and began to explore it. “Tha-at…” 209845 hesitated for a moment, then chose its words carefully. “You-u-u cannot stop the reboo-oo-ooting.” The words gave 209845 a pang of guilt, although it could not identify its origin. 209845 augmented its sound receptors, intrigued. The information it had received from the Cloud about this system had not included anything about local deities.

“It is wha-a-at it is, regardle-e-e-ess of your opini-ion.” The more time 209845 spent with these life forms, the more they seemed to challenge everything it had believed about the world. So stubborn, strictly set in their ways and resisting change. So different, a diverse melting pool that repeated its own song over and over. Sometimes foolish, with a truly incompetent sense of self-preservation. And yet they seemed to fit together so well. It was unlike anything in the Cloud, where all was carefully designed to fit together and maximize efficiency. And yet, despite their chaos, life forms were capable of so many amazing things. A seeming paradox of beauty born of disorder. “A-a-apologies, I had to make su-u-u-ure you were no-ot a viru-u-us.” 209845 observed as the fox immediately formed a bond with Jidah, despite the vast differences in their physiology and history, over something as small as dietary preferences. A paradox indeed. “Well, I cannot die-e-e becau-u-u-use I am not ali-ive. You, on the o-o-other hand, must get offwo-orld.” Or stop the rebooting, it thought silently. Best not to reveal that as a possibility; despite their chaos casualties, it was best for the Framework of the process was completed, and what was a small group going to do? 209845 turned away from the ongoing discussion, and began to search for a way down the cliff. By now, the fleet it had called down had cleared the forest behind them. Soon, the trees in the area would lose their leaves and wither. Within a span of weeks, the forest would be a wasteland. It was eery, how silently an entire ecosystem could die when there was no-one left to scream. The party here chatted carefree, blissfully unaware of the millions lost not so far away. Only 209845 knew.

“You do-o-o?!” It was about time. “We a-are in the wo-o-orld of Açi-ila, overloo-oo-ooking the Dusklands. You should be wa-arned, howeve-e-e-er; this world is be-ing reboote-e-ed.” 209845 glitch-sighed. How many times must it repeat itself? Perhaps it would be best to just show them… 209845 accessed its core handbook, then turned up its volume and played the section on rebooting. Instantly, it’s void-body straightened out, and the same modulated voice came out as when it had first presented its function. “Section 4.2: Rebooting. When a world reaches the threshold for a virus infestation, it must be rebooted to prevent the infection from spreading to other worlds. Rebooting takes place in three stages: ”In the first stage, Arrival, the Cloud lands on the world through a wave of probes. Once the probes are down and have identified an optimal location, the rest of the Cloud can be transmitted. ”In the second stage, Mapping, the Cloud takes the form of a large red storm. This is the longest stage; for the last week, the storm releases pulses through the Web that seem to turn the world monochrome. These pulses map the world to prepare for the third and final step. ”In the third step, Execution, the Cloud releases one final, powerful pulse that reshapes the entire world. The world is reset to its most basic form, destroy in all life present, including viruses. This is the only way to make sure the infection doesn’t spread.” 209845 zapped it.

“Yes, every-y-y-yone will die. As I sai-i-id, it is ne-e-ecessary.” 209845 watched them, interested. For some reason, the idea of planetary genocide, even necessary, seemed to bother them. “He-e-e-ello, I am 209845, antivirus of the Clou-u-ud. Do you kno-o-ow where to find-one any viruse-e-es?”

209845 observed her quizzically. ”Becau-u-use it’s the only way to be-e-e-e sure, of course. Otherwi-i-ise, so-ome viruse-es could escape.” As they spoke, the group suddenly emerged from the trees to overlook a massive basin, a plain dotted with waterways and settlements. The Dusklands. The name of the place came from the thick layer of fog that blanketed high above the whole basin, shielding it from some of the sun’s light. Despite the darkness, the Dusklands were full of fertile lands to farm unique crops that only grew in this environment. From where the party was standing, most of the land was obscured by the fog. They would need to find a way down, and soon, before the sun set.

Sooo… this is kind of embarrassing but I accidentally hid a post before posting. I don’t know what hiding it actually does, but now I can’t edit it. Is there a way to unhide it, or do I just have to settle for this?

Ebon grabbed the bottle from Perses and took a sniff. Ignoring the odd texture of what he could only assume was glass, it seemed… herbal, almost minty. Powerful scents, good for hiding poison. He set the bottle back on the counter, where the orange had oddly begun to reverse its roll, and turned to Perses’s previous question. ”You COULD take it for yourself. But then you wouldn’t know what it is,” he responded. He then cut straight to the point: men like Perses liked to feel in control of a conversation by subtly manipulating its subject; Ebon would have none of that. “I have reason to believe a group from this city is in possession of an important piece of information. Help me to identify them, and the containments will be yours.” He had no real intention of sharing the information; but that was a problem to deal with later. @Koloss17

You weren’t kidding when you said that would be long. First off: No parent should be that harsh on their kid. Maybe you should speak to your parents and explain how they’re making you feel (although I understand why that could be hard). But most importantly, regardless of what you’re mom insists, this is NOT ALL YOUR FAULT. Also, someone who “loves you unconditionally” should be able to apologize when they are wrong. Essentially: don’t blame yourself for everything. Yes, you probably have room for improvement. But you’re also just a kid (or teenager, if kid sounds too condescending) and can’t be expected to be perfect. So, take some of the guilt off your shoulders. I’m sure you’ll get into a great school. And no, you don’t need to be a STEM kid or athlete to succeed. You just need to be yourself.
