  1. Do we know which glyph is which on the beanie? Also, I hope they come out with one of the bridge 4 modified slave brand-cum-tattoo (or is that what this glyph is?)
  2. This is technically true (Pattern would be so proud), so I upvoted the downvote. However, it would be a very odd turn of phrase to describe a soulcast body in this way, IMHO. Sidebar: I imagine this question has come up before, but it just came to my mind. Does anyone else think it is weird that it is even possible to soulcast the dead? Does a dead body still have a cognitive aspect? (Mistborn) Weird. I wonder if it is easier/harder/same to soulcast a dead body than a living one. Which would have the stronger (more resistant to change) cognitive aspect?
  3. "So? Dalinar is lighteyed. He's probably friends with a lot of murderers." This sounds like Lopen's sense of humor to me, more than Syl's.
  4. Here is the next one! "He thinks you're a god. You shouldn't encourage him." "Why not? I am a god." EDIT: Hmm...who could this be? Wit? Darkness? Taln? Some other herald? These glimpses are getting juicier!!
  5. I don't think this takes place on the shattered plains. Good catch about the leaves, Kobain! Yes, Sadeas has lumber resources, but his Princedom(?) is in the NW corner of Alethkar, which I think is why it is so expensive. Given the north=warm, south=cold aspect of Roshar (based on the Frostlands and the Reshi Sea), and the fact that lumber is scarce, and that said scarce resource seems to exist in northern/warmer areas, I think it is unlikely that there are trees stormward/east of the shattered plains (in New Natanan). Wild speculation: This is from the POV of a Shin, experiencing his first highstorm. The storms are now much stronger because of the impending desolation, and can now cross the mountains into Shinovar. He uses the martial description because soldiers and battle cries are the most foreign and horrifying things he can imagine, thus the only thing appropriate to describe such an event.
  6. Friends, I get the feeling we might be the subject of a psychology experiment here..."How much theorizing can we get these fans to do with the least possible information?" Also, here is the context, if anyone is curious: "Thirty-eight days," Renarin read. "The end of all nations." "Well, I think that is a good stopping point," Renarin said, closing the book of bedtime stories. "But I'm not even tired yet," Adolin whined. "I already read you 25, which is 10 more than we agreed upon! You can hear more tomorrow night. Goodnight, Adolin." "Oh, alright. Goodnight, Renarin. Don't forget to leave a chip!" "Of course," Renarin whispered, leaving a sapphire chip on the nightstand. (My apologies to any Adolin fans out there...)
  7. Or was it June 12th, 2011??? ISO date format....the only way to go Especially useful for date-based file naming systems: alphanumerical sort=chronological sort, even across multiple years! Blew my mind the first time I realized the vast superiority of (YY)YY-MM-DD!
  8. Just wanted to let you guys know, I asked Brandon to answer the following question on my signed copy of WoR from Weller Books: "If Nicroburst A targets Nicroburst B, and Nicroburst B targets a Coinshot, will the resulting steelpush be greater than one without Nicroburst A?" I'll let you know if I get an answer! (I was going to ask "If a Nicroburst targets a mistborn during a duralumin flared steelpush, will the result be greater than from the duralumin alone?" but I figured this is less relevant given the lack of mistborn moving forward.)
  9. The problem could be add simple as this: is it possible to soulcast something that has already been soulcast? Assuming they could not soulcast the bridge out of air, the most likely candidate would be wood. But we know that most, if not all, of the wood they use for bridges is soulcast. If, for some reason, you cannot re-soulcast a material, that would be a simple, practical reason why they don't use soulcast bridges.
  10. Thanks for letting me know, Peter. Very sorry if I offended you, or anyone else! I'll try to be more chaste in the future...
  11. It appears that my innocuous, but slightly off color comment was deleted... (If you watch The Office, it was one of Michael Scott's favorite jokes/catchphrases.) Did I break some forum rule? It certainly was not my intention, so can the mod who deleted it please let me know their reasoning so I don't offend anyone in the future? Pm is fine, although there are probably others on the forum who would benefit from such knowledge. Thanks!
  12. Alice did not ignore their terrible gods; She suggested that dawnshards/dawnsingers were the gods, and that they feared their return because it would mean being enslaved again. She made this point several times. I know it was a long post, but if you are going to accuse someone of "completely ignoring" what you see as an obvious stumbling block, I think you owe it to them to read their theory carefully. I don't necessarily agree with her theory, but several of your criticisms are unfounded.
  13. Just a quick theory, based on what we have learned from Pattern: What if Shallan didn't really kill her father? We assumed she was telling the truth, because we assumed she was talking to a truth spren. Now that we know they are more like half-truth/lie spren, saying "I killed my father" when she really maybe only bore some responsibility for his death sounds like something that pattern would describe as a "true lie". Yes, I know the cryptic asked her for a truth, not a lie, but who knows what it meant by that? Maybe a full truth would work, but maybe when it said "the stronger the truth, the stronger the bond" (or something like that) it meant that the more "lie" you snuck in while still being "true", the better. It seems like it would be in the cryptics nature to say it wanted a truth when it really wanted a "true lie".
  14. Peter, do you know what the art work status will be for the e book? I know in some ebooks the art is tiny and you can't zoom, but in the Way of Kings ebook for Nook you can zoom in the art. Unfortunately, the end pages and the back cover are not included. Will WoR be the same?
  15. I think I'm going to get the ebook for my Nook to read, and wait to get the hardcover at the Philly signing, so I can support the hosting bookstore. It will suck to wait to see the end papers, but I know Brandon asks that we buy a book at signings. Now that I think about it though, maybe I will finally pick up a memory of light hardcover there instead....
  16. So, my wife and I are going to make a long awaited trip to Philadelphia, which just so HAPPENS to coincide with the WoR tour stop! She has plans with a friend Friday night, so I am free to nerd out into the wee hours. Is anyone interested in a post-signing 17th Shard meetup? Anyone from Philly here who knows a good bar or restaurant near the signing?
  17. I'm sad there is no NYC stop, but he WAS just here for Steelheart (although it was a weird event...I would recommend avoiding the 92Y in the future). I'm planning on making to trek from NYC to Philly, though! mmm....cheesesteaks....
  18. Ahh edit ninja'd by my attempt not to double post!
  19. No, sorry but I have to join the chorus on this one; you asked about compounding, which to me means allomantically burning the goldmind. Nothing in your question or his response would imply that a misting would suddenly be able to draw power from the goldmind feruchemically. He would need to be a gold twinborn, but that isn't what you asked about; you said auger, so I have to assume that Brandon was talking only about a misting. Edit: and I disagree that you can completely eliminate your identity with Feruchemical aluminum. Or at least, if you could, you would not be able to draw it back out because you would no longer be a feruchemist! It would be a one way street. Double edit: hmm...unless the complete erasure of identity enabled fMuggle, in which case you could draw it back out of the same aluminum metalmind. But this would be useless to you, because you would not be able to create any of the fancy fully unlocked metalminds until your identity was sufficiently restored. You would be an Feruchemical aluminum gnat! (nor would you be able to tap any other metalminds, unless they were also created by a zero idyentity feruchemist, which I just explained was not possible) Classic catch-22!
  20. Ok, a lot of that was TLDR, but I have a few thoughts: 1) I am super confused, because you guys keep referring to soulbearers. According to the feruchemical table, a soulbearer is a nicrosil ferring. An aluminum ferring is called a trueself. Did you guys mean to say trueself, or is there a known error on the table? 2) Kurk, I think think your "muggles can tap" theory MIGHT work, but only if the person filling the metalmind had reduced there identity to zero. Based on what we know, I do not think this is possible. Doing so would cause a singularity: if you have zero spiritual identity, you would no longer have the feruchemist mark on your spirit web, and so it would be impossible to reach a zero identity state using feruchemistry. Therefore, the lowest identity state you can reach with feruchemistry MUST still include your identity as a feruchemist. Ergo, the spiritual skeleton key needed to use an "unlocked" metalmind would most likely at least include an identity as some type of feruchemist. The question then becomes: could (for example) a steel ferring tap an unlocked goldmind, or could it only be tapped by another gold ferring (or full feruchemist)? Edit: typo
  21. I just went back and reread that chapter to see if Dalinar did anything unusual that might have been him breaking the bond (no, he didn't) and HOLY S--- THAT IS THE MOST AMAZING SPECTACULAR EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER OF A CHAPTER EVER!!!11OMFG AHHH! Sorry, but I had forgotten just how much awesomeness and badassery happens in that one. Wow.
  22. Is it possible (ever so slightly) that Sadeas doesn't know about the bond breaking requirement? And that Dalinar intentionally has an ace up his sleeve, maybe to pull the ole switcheroo?! Totally out of character for him, I know, but hey, we can dream, right?
  23. Regarding Adolin and the thrill, I read this very differently from (apparently) most people. I don't think this is the first time he felt the thrill, either during battle or a dual. I read it as this was the first time he felt this way when the thrill left him. Rather than being worried or thinking it ominous, I am actually encouraged: this sounds pretty similar to the sickness Dalinar has been feeling, which I see as a move away from Odium, rather than towards him. Fear not, lovers of Adolin! :-)
  24. Before I realized that this had been pretty much set aside, I got all excited just now when I read this from a signing in Chicago last year: Q: Could a Seeker who was properly trained and experienced detect AonDor or Awakening? Similarly, does a Coppercloud block an Awakener's life sense? A: A Seeker could sense somebody else using magic not native Scadrial. RAFO on the Coppercloud blocking similar magic. The fact that a seeker could detect pulses from magic fueled by all the shards makes me think that there is still something there with the whole filter/lens/waves concept. I shall also keep it in my head cannon :-)
  25. I thought the same thing about the lullaby! Btw, haven't we heard about a cave with glowing crystals in the purelake?
