I love books, especially fantasy, from authors like, (of course) Brandon Sanderson, J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Jordan, Patrick Rothfuss, Orson Scott Card, and too many others to name here. In addition I like swing music, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, mythology, traveling, and again too many things to list.

  1. I wonder if it has to do with Asian influence. Anyone familiar with anime knows that hotsprings are a popular theme. Could be that bathing and sanitation are a good indicator of the civilization you are in. Rome was famous for its baths. The whole awkward scenario must be fun to write also. Maybe he just likes it.
  2. I can only imagine the Oh Biscuits! From Bandit on that one.
  3. I have the same as many of you. 1. Drawing (I have children's book looking for publication right now) 2. Trombone (I feel bad about this one, haven't played in years) 3. Sewing (mostly mending nowadays) 4. Video games (not as much as I once did, but still more than I probably should) 5. D&D type games (haven't found people to consistently play with) 6. Writing (no hope of publication, it's just for me) This list is not comprehensive but add it to a wife, 4 kids, full time job, and a parrot and you've got a lot to do and no time to do it.
  4. My favorite episode is curry quest. It always gets me, being a dad who has to travel sometimes. Some of my others are fairy tale and sleepy time. Who doesn't like some Gustav Holst?
  5. You can give quarter to a worthy foe but despair has never fit that description. -Spensa
  6. I have looked at many different authors approach to religion and each has a good perspective, but I think none are quite as balanced as Sanderson's. In general sci/fi authors paint religion in a negative light, though not always. Anne McCaffrey avoids it at all costs. C.S. Lewis has already been mentioned, and though I love his writing, there is a niche for it. Tolkien is a lot more subtle with religion in middle earth, but it is there. Especially in the fall of Numenor. None of those have the diversity that Sanderson does or tackles the same issues with traditions, doctrine, or belief. I think Sanderson's books are excellent about finding the shape and process and workings of religion. What it does for a person and for a people. I could wax poetic, but I will leave it at that. I would love to hear what y'all think about religion in fictional works in general. I love the concept of how to believe when the Almighty is dead. Okay, enough geeking out.
  7. That's a tough one too because fantasy are designed to be pretty crappy to live in. They all have orcs or ash covered skies or highstorms or falling thread that destroys all organic life. If I could pick the chapter that would be nice, but the best chapters to live in are the shortest. For the sake of this forum though I will say Elantris.
  8. Favorite... Too many to choose from. Hrathen is pretty high up for me. (I hope I spelled that right) but Wayne.... Ah, too hard. As for least favorite that is hard because captain Crow is one you love to hate. I would have to go with Taravangian though. Favorite villain I think is captain Crow. Favorite bagel... cheddar jalapeño
  9. Let's see... my first was Mistborn, I think. Then one by one I devoured them. I am up to date on cosmere novels, I think. There are some novellas that may have missed. I am currently reading Defiant. I listened to the Alcatraz series with my kids so that one is a bit fuzzy in my mind. I have also read the Rithmatist and the Reckoners trilogy. Taco, hands down.
  10. Why do I get the feeling that the cookie is related to hemalurgy? I would say I have a wary respect for hemalurgy. Kind of like vomiting. It can be useful, but avoid it if at all possible.
  11. Hello. I am new this forum thing so be patient with me and my typing. My goal is to be counted among the ten fingered. I have read a fair bit of Sanderson's writings so I look forward to learning more from all of you. Cheers.
