    You're doing a pretty damn good job *hugs* Trying to help friends with trust issues is really difficult. The main bit, which you're already doing, is to just keep checking on them. Keep kinda poking away at the walls. The only thing I might suggest in addition to that is to start gently and carefully pushing them to trust a few others as well

    Sick Asharak stiffened. He left an avatar of himself in his place to continue speaking with Rebus, and retreated into the Mindscape. To clarify, my idea, if you think this might work, is to have him use the Mindscape as a connection point to keep himself out of Rebus's control while hunting down and driving out the nanomachines in his body.

Would you mind describing the scene from his pov, with his reactions to being forced to see it and how it went awry again? Ope. Forgot about that little tidbit. Well, guess I do have a plan for that, assuming I remember correctly. They were in his bloodstream, right? "This is true enough. Well, now I suppose it is revealed. We fight against you."

    "Well. We'll see about that." Even as he spoke, the chalky grey void seemed to be slowly splintering around the Mordite blade he held. Was there a time in the past where such a thing happened to a significant degree? Asharak nodded in understanding. "Ah, yes. I suppose I shall indeed be turning in my resignation. Though I never truly did much work for you anyway; I simply kept myself unnoticed until this point."

Speaking of, what would hurt Rebus the most here? "Why would I resign?" Asharak laid a hand on the katana slung by his hip. It seemed to shake around without moving.

    Not necessarily at once. He's too powerful for that. There are a few things that need to be done, including taking out his clones. As it is, Rebus himself is too powerful for anyone without the plot armor of something like Protagonist. Right now, Asharak is just waiting to receive those who join and amswer any questions, and provide direction should any ask for it. Asharak nods. "Combat is not the only way to help."
