  1. - from tWoK Chapter 72. Jasnah here is talking about spren being linked to Radiant abilities. The above quote would indicate that Jasnah had assumed Shallan of being in the same order as her, but revises that opinion when she see's Shallan's spren. I'm not entirely convinced that Jasnah assumed that Shallan was in the same order as her. Her phrasing is "I had assumed...". This means that she had made the assumption at a previous time, and was now looking at the assumption again and discarding it. Shallan only revealed that she could Soulcast minutes before. I think if Jasnah had been referring to to Shallan's order, she would have said "I assume that you... but no," indicating that she's making the assumption and correcting it mid-thought. The "I see now" only reinforces the idea that Jasnah's assumption was made previously. I'll admit that she could be referring to an assumption made minutes before, when Shallan revealed that she could soulcast. But it feels wrong to me. I think she's referring to an assumption made much earlier than that. What it might be, I have no idea. Back to the topic - what do you see as the defining moment of Jasnah's character in this book? I don't know about you, but I see it as the scene where she kills those men. And in that scene, the two qualities that define her the best are Just and Confident. Even without knowing about the Ars Arcanum, I think I would pick those two qualities for that scene. Yes, she's Learned and Careful, maybe she's Wise and Giving, but I just feel that Just/Confidence are at the core of her character more than anything else (also note that this is one of the only scenes we see her soulcast). I find it really difficult to argue with my gut on this one. And the fact that every other piece of circumstantial evidence we've found supports Jasnah being in Order 2, and I think this outweighs the restriction she has to be in order 5 or 7.
  2. I want a choice for "none of the above". I still think that an "official" verb is unnecessary.
  3. he became very
  4. Hm... If Brandon's doing the dialog, that kind of rules out a Mistborn Lego game.
  5. I think that an Atium ferring could, theoretically, get down to zero age, however, by the time he or she got there, they'd be a baby, and would stop tapping their atium, because they wouldn't understand how, and would therefore revert to their real age before they got to the point of no existence. Also, it's possible that the amount of age needed to change your age isn't linear, and it would take an infinite amount of age to reduce your age to zero.
  6. Good point.
  7. I stand corrected. (well, technically I'm sitting...)
  8. Also, the ability of Coinshots to travel long distances very rapidly has probably reduced the need for telegraphs and telephones. I'm sure they'll appear in some form by the 2nd trilogy.
  9. The Highstorms don't circle the globe. How could they, if they break up around Shinovar?
  10. Have you read the Valdemar series(es) by Mercedes Lackey? Specifically, the Last Herald Mage trilogy? More on topic, I ship Shallan and Renarin. (and when did "ship" become a verb, anyways?)
  11. It seems to me that we have three points: 1. Jasnah is in order 2. 2. Jasnah and Shallan must be in adjacent orders, or the same order. 3. Shallan is in order 6. One of these three points is false. if point 1 is false, then Jasnah is either in order #5 or order #7. Both fit Jasnah to some degree, but not as well as order #2. if point 2 is false, then the Order/power chart is fundamentally flawed. We've seen badly flawed understandings of magic systems in the past (namely Allomancy's "10 metals"), but even that had the overall structure generally correct. if point 3 is false, then Shallan is in order #3 (or order #1, but Kaladin seems to be strongly in order #1, which means that Shallan isn't). Order #3 could be made to fit Shallan, but it really doesn't. Alternatively, there are some major typos in the Ars Arcanum, besides the ones we've been told about.
  12. Except that magic on Roshar is accessed by your actions. If the Orders where gender specific, that would be as much as saying that women cannot have a Protecting/Leading personality, or that a man can't be Creative/Honest. I doubt this is the case.
  13. I think that Tien had Knight Radiant potential. I think he'd have fit best in either Order 4, Loving/Healing or Order 6, Creative/Honest. Thoughts?
  14. Hi! Welcome to insanity!
  15. Isn't this kind of what Kelsier did when he fought the Inquisitor? True, he used both Pushes and Pulls, but the overall idea was similar.
  16. This. Miles always had some issues. Back to speculating about external forces that might have driven him insane, could Mr Suit be a Rioter? If Miles spent enough time with a Rioter/Soother, that could be enough to emphasize his insanity.
  17. On the other hand, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. I'm inclined to believe that these are actually windspren, if only because Syl is invisible to anyone except Kaladin (and Rock) unless she chooses to be.
  18. From them, or from us? I doubt their first meeting will be very positive. Remember, Shallan's a lighteyes, and Kaladin has a grudge against all lighteyes (and particularly bad experiences in dealing with young, attractive, female lighteyes).
  19. I don't have a Twitter account, so I don't track the feed. Sadness.
  20. The emails have gone out, then?
  21. It'll be like Bean's deadline - invisible and totally awesome.
  22. The two surges that Kaladin and Szeth use are Pressure and Gravity. The Basic Lashing uses gravity, the Full Lashing uses pressure, and the Reverse Lashing uses gravity again. We've seen Szeth use all three lashings. Kaladin has only used the Full Lashing and the Reverse Lashing, but those confirm that he has access to both Pressure and Gravity. It would seem that if Jasnah is in Order 2, then she should share a Surge with Kaladin, either Pressure or Gravity. However, by the same logic, she would not share a Surge with Shallan. So either she isn't in order 2, or adjacent orders don't necessarily share powers, thus indicating that Jasnah probably doesn't share Surges with Kaladin.
  23. Now is it time for me to lose hope?
  24. Was it made out of outdated encyclopedias?
