  1. The Ghost receives the message, taking a crystal ball and establishing the illusion of a shadowy figure near the expected source of the voice. “If you want the Machination, there are simpler and more effective ways. Publicity means business. But you, too, are business; what do you require?” So light/dark and order/chaos are currently the axes of the magic system. Rebus came up with two more axes to differentiate raw energy (diffuse undirected), metals (condensed undirected), magic users (condensed directed), and other entities (like withergeists, characters, and the Nullite zombie) associated with that magic (diffuse directed). If he can successfully prove those axes exist, he can then search for more axes - and thus more forms of fundamental magic. You’re the Author who keeps lore (and came up with most of this, I think), and Onyx might need to be involved.
  2. Rebus is always available. It’s one of the perks of being in multiple places at once. But there’s also the mysterious ball of darkness and the Machination.
  3. Indeed. Meat the Minstrel was what happens when I write with a fever - Bacon’s lost memories turned twisted and absurd. Meat cackles again, then takes hold of his own nose and crumbles into a pile of char, burning oil floating in orbs where his eyes were. They float to either side of the brave adventurer, and Meat’s voice echoes and screeches from all directions. “You are to ready the for test? I’d be penniless otherwise, syaw ynam ni!” He cackles again.
  4. “Wait, who’s that?” Meat shrugs, cackles, then springs over to the Brave Adventurer, slinking around him. “You seek me, Meat the Minstrel, and the Dreamsmith, he who hits dreams with a hammer and makes them about demon elevators? Take my nose, and be thrust into the realm of madnessssendam!” Definitely a valuable employee.
  5. Meat does a handstand and offers his foot for Omen to take.
  6. Kion’s eyes go very wide. “Restoration! Incineration!” He says, trying to heal Perseus of the venom and set the shades on fire. Rebus closes his eyes, his blade flashing as he deflects blow after blow. He’s less skilled than Atredies, but fast. He leaps into the air on a pillar of utility fog, dropping down to attempt an overhand strike. The holographic warriors are less lucky, and are mostly cut to pieces as they charge Atredies with their glaives, maces, swords, and daggers. Balitan was a scientist from the trial Omen gave Rebus. Rebus liked working with him, and thus is seeking out or Narrating into existence the real Balitan. Meat grins widely, and bursts into green flames. “I’ve been told I’m very trying!”
  7. Rebus meets the blade with his own - which is laughing - as the holographic enemies smoothly switch targets and charge Atreides. They have a great variety of weapons and armor, and are fully meant to be mowed down with impunity. Wait, did Rebus give Atredies a teleportation beacon? "Good to know - I'll see you then." Rebus smiles and teleports a teleportation beacon to the man. "Meat the Minstrel!" Meat declares, spinning on his heel as the floor becomes the ceiling, then the floor again. His car vanishes, then slithers away into the ground, which burps. Kion keeps walking and eyeing the bugs suspiciously; there isn't much he can contribute. I will sleep now; I'll be back in the morning.
  8. Rebus frowns. He had told Balitan he'd make him real, but another scientist would do just as well. He once again reaches out to the Authors to find himself a scientist with knowledge of the fundamental substances, who's willing to work for him and maybe explode, become undead, or get interesting powers. @xinoehp512, I should probably ask you before I start adding more axes. Although the manifestations could be categorized with two axes (condensed/dispersed and directed/inanimate), even without trying to make new powers. Near Omen's chasms, the sky began to melt. A car raced past a tree stopped, and a figure got out, cackling as he drop kicked his soul towards the job interview.
  9. That’s good, as Rebus had begun to do other things. In addition to maintaining his other tasks and practice with his new sword, he decided to begin a new experiment. He channels power through Abstract, creating and seeking out scientists controlled by other Authors. Balitan (@NameIess) is among them.
  10. “Good. Hopefully it’ll be more interesting next time.” Rebus does the same, exploding into a cloud of utility fog which puts out the flames and scaffolds gaps caused by the earthquake.
  11. Rebus uses the kick to pivot as his armor absorbs the blow. Using the spin to give him speed, he lashes out with his Plotblade. His hair doesn’t burn, having already been deprived of combustible components by the earlier explosion. “You don’t have too many options, do you? Would you like a handicap?”
  12. About half the fog flares explosively as the onboard storage ignites, compromising the antimatter containment. The remainder contains no combustible materials, and thus should be difficult to ignite. Rebus raise an eyebrow and assembles a new, fireproof coat for himself.
  13. Rebus explodes into a firestorm. But he simply walks out of the flames, his coat gone but his armor and Plotblade still very much there. “Good trick, getting fire inside my molecule reserves.” He flips his hand, and a spear of utility fog lights up and stabs towards the man.
  14. Rebus puts his hand out, and a blade forms in it. It’s straight and fairly long, and the pommel and quillions end with pointed gems. “I wish you good luck. Maybe you can even make me need to Narrate.” He smirks at the man, backlit by the fires burning behind him.
  15. Rebus raises an eyebrow, ignoring his smoldering coat. “Interesting… if you’re a ghost possessed by a flamethrower, can we get that out of the way now?”
  16. Rebus sips his cider. “You made a mistake, there. Dramatic timing can be a problematic force.” Rebus smiles broadly, leaning against an invisible wall. “Hello. Could we interest you in something to drink? Or a conversation, perhaps? Or a fight to the death. Your choice.”
  17. Oh, yeah. Rebus nods. “I understand - the looming feeling is out there. I don’t think it is a specific thing, but rather the fact that there will be an apocalyptic threat eventually. But I’m unsure it would be a good thing, Threadwise, should said threat go away.”
  18. Rebus sighs. The thing he’s asking them not to do will be done before they process the form, but he decides not to press the issue. He also watches Lady Bug and Sequence continue talking.
  19. I’m not sure why I was surprised; it’s perfectly on-brand. Rebus, having successfully built an interpreter device for the Ennuller orb, attempts to send more paperwork to revoke his request for the Ennullers to take it away. He’s pretty sure it won’t work, but it’s worth a try. “Your revolvers reminded me, I can tell you about it later.”
  20. Of course not - that’s why it will be funny. I may also make a better candidate so I can actually help.
  21. Hmm, should I have Meat the Minstrel apply? He’d be great for the job…
