She shrugged again and set her head on the ledge.
On the ledge . . . that was really high up.
She looked down.
High up enough that someone small could die if they jumped off . . .
Sudden, sheer panic shot through her as she realized what she'd done.
She grabbed Bat forcefully and bolted away from the edge of the table. He would be safe in the middle, right?
Actually, no, no he wouldn't. What if he ran for the edge anyway?
She held him even tighter and crept over to the side of the table, then hopped onto a chair, and finally down to the floor.
He'd . . . he'd be safe now. Yeah. There weren't any cliffs down here. Er- ledges.
She took some deep breaths to calm her racing pulse and breathing.
That'd been way too close.
