“Sometimes,” Kaladin admitted. “But…sometimes it’s good. I changed in the bridge crews.”

Kaladin shrugged. “It worked. More and more people started coming in. The crew became a community. We changed. All of us.”

“It was more than the food. It was the connection. The people. The talking. The stew’s just what began it.” He eyed her slyly. “I thought it would be a good strategy for today, huh?”

Kaladin smiled dryly. “I didn’t either. I needed them, if I wanted to escape. I tried to win them over. Conversation, songs…until I got Rock and Teft on my side. I still think it was Rock’s stew that did it.”

"Yeah." Kaladin stirred his stew. "Hated."

Kaladin met her eyes. "I did," he whispered. "The only one. They hated me because of it."

Kaladin sighed, thinking. "When I came to the shattered plains, I was a slave. I was handed over to the bridge crews, where we ran out in front of the army during assaults and carried the bridges." He looked down, remembering. "People didn't survive the bridge crews as long as I did. No one survived the bridge crews."

Kaladin ate some more stew. "Would you like to hear some?" He asked as nonchalantly as possible.

"That's right. You didn't hear any stories?"

Kaladin chuckled. "Yep. This is what brought people together back in the bridge crews."

Name: Enslyn Jesth Personality: Enslyn is fierce at heart but kind and loyal. She feels she needs to prove herself a lot and prefers to do things on her own. It's very difficult for her to ask for help. Appearance: She has thick, wavy black hair, shoulder length; lithe frame and gray eyes. History: Enslyn is illegitimate; her father's previous wife died and he took a fancy to a married woman. He never remarried; the woman went back to her husband and it was a bit of a scandal. She is sixteen now and has to earn her living since she's a shame in her father's house. Job In Village (Skills should be related to this and history): Works for a small wage in the tavern for the keeper. She goes back home to sleep, usually after her father is already in bed. Skill I (What can you do?): She is skilled in throwing and fighting with knives, though as she's not very big she doesn't intimidate people physically. Skill II (What else can you do?): Super good at smirking at you after you underestimate her. Also she's very in tune with nature; good at predicting the weather and stuff. Influence (What has happened to you? Probably magical): When the forest went crazy she was gathering water from a nearby lake and the screams of the trees were so violent they scared a young star. Part of it fell off, streaked toward the water, and lit up the lake as she stood in it. When she drank the water she'd gathered, the star's essence glowed inside her and concentrated in her palms and her mind, allowing her to cast spells not connected to natural forces; for example she couldn't cause or prevent earthquakes or storms or anything crazy like that. Kaladin sat for a moment, then realized he was staring at Ash. Storms. I'm still trying to analyze her, aren't I? She was going to get creeped out if he didn't watch it. He hurriedly looked down and ate a few bites of stew.

Kaladin shook his head. “Thanks, Rock.” He pushed one bowl in front of Ash, gesturing towards it. “Here.”
