  1. Maybe we should get a language practice thread going on, where we can all speak in our second languages together. Is that something you guys might be interested in?
  2. I agree completely with the above statement. Also, my willpower is so weak when it comes to buying music. I need to stop browsing CD stores just because I can.
  3. Funny, a group of us actually did come up with a food magic system. Though it was based off Taco Bell, not KFC. "I write these words in condiments, for anything set in food cannot be trusted." ---Comatose, in a late-night skype chat.
  4. It's just like those weird problems about if one car leaves home going 35mph, and the other car leaves going 50 mph, when will they cross paths? Answer: I don't care. And yes, I really did have to do those in high school Physics class. I don't think I ever got one right.
  5. I really hope we get more, though. Just saying. This whole thing sounds way too fun to just have one book written about it. As for time periods, even Brandon himself has compared fashion and technology on Scadrial to our own (late Regency/early Victorian for fashion, medieval for most technology). From the use of trains and the "Wild West" whatnot, it seems like Alloy of Law can be compared to anywhere between, I'm guessing, the 1830s to the 1890s, obviously stretching to the end of that spectrum if automobiles really are involved.
  6. Also, absconding with food without paying for it is proof that you intended to steal it all along. No, I'm not making that up either.
  7. That's the only thing I've been able to imagine since I heard the name. I keep picturing Miis in caps-and-gowns.
  8. I dunno, the first thing I thought when I saw those two was the movie, not the ride.
  9. I saw the movie adaptation. It was decent, but I expected more. The original Broadway soundtrack, however, is fantastic. I'm currently Netflix-ing my way through Bleak House and Eureka, and am thoroughly enjoying both. Also, The Green Hornet is a very enjoyable movie. Definitely a superhero movie for grown-ups, though; that movie isn't one I would show to the kids.
  10. I'm also wondering if the 3DS will be able to function as a tablet, the same way you used to be able to hook up a GBA to a GameCube. As for the tablet itself, every console ever made has come with at least one controller, so if Nintendo doesn't include at least one tablet in the purchase of the base console, they've lost their minds entirely. But yeah, I'm excited to see what this thing can do.
  11. The only "official" roleplay as of yet is Mistborn: The Inquisition, which is 17th Shard's official RP. You can find a link for it in the navbar, if you're interested. And wow, 30 characters! I don't have that many on MBI yet, but I have that many on a couple other sites I used to run. Character addicts unite!

    Metallic Jobs

There might end up being a black market for Hemalurgic spikes; whether or not the points are known, if the "right" person knew it existed, what's to stop them from experimenting? As for jobs: Librarians with Feruchemical Copper. Best reference desk ever, and knowledge of everything that's in the library, down to each volume's Dewey Decimal number. Locksmiths (or thieves) with iron/steel. Lockpicking tools? Skeleton keys? Who needs 'em? Coinshot snipers. Why waste money on suppressors when Allomancy is perfectly quiet? Pewterarm EMTs/Paramedics/Firefighters etc. One of the hardest things about emergency medicine is moving the patient when you have only yourself. Psychotherapist Soother/Rioters. Only with the patient's consent, of course.
  13. It's not that the power itself was losing potency, it's that the Lord Ruler himself was still getting older. Feruchemy is all about multipliers. You can tap some of your stored power to be 2x stronger, or you can tap more of it to spend an equal amount of time 4x stronger instead. Now then, looking at that, it makes perfect sense that the Lord Ruler would have to tap his metalminds much more quickly at 1000 years old to retain the same perceived age (usually between his 20s and 40s, it seems) as he did when he was, say, only 100.
  14. Huh, really. I only rode that ride once before the movie came out, when I was like six, so I don't really remember. The other, non-Pirates cameos are fun too. At one point you can see what looks a lot Mr. Smee and Wendy.
  15. An abstract representation of The Thousand Sunny?
  16. Well, the nice thing about an electric is that when you unplug it, it's way quieter than a traditional fiddle, which means I can practice without bothering the people around me. Also, weird is good. And accordion, huh? That sounds fun indeed!
  17. Both. Because in the winter, Montana legally changes its name to Hoth.
  18. If there are people on it - and there are; Brandon has said so - then there has to be a continent. Unless they're merpeople or something.
  19. It's made for everyone, really, whether or not they claim their target audience is children. Also, now I must listen to the Ballad of Klimpaloon again.
  20. Hey there! I saw on the board index that it's your birthday, so Happy Birthday!

  21. Bienvenidos, Thorontir! And I apologize for the lack of proper punctuation; I have no idea how to make that symbol on a computer. And don't worry; your English is definitely better than my Spanish. Anyways, I'm KChan, one of the admins here, I'm so glad you're enjoying the site so far! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. It's nice to meet you!
  22. There actually was another continent, with people on it. It's vaguely referenced during one scene in Hero of Ages, and is also mentioned by Brandon.... somewhere. Also, Scadrial is an "off-planet" term for the world; its natives don't call it that.
  23. It could be. Perhaps a mark of age? It's not sexual dimorphism, I think; otherwise the male-female pairs would probably have been a lot more noticeable.
  24. I've also heard it said that people with light eyes are more sensitive to light, but I don't have any sort of article to link that backs that up.
  25. It says "Roshar" on the map, and that's good enough for me.
