  1. Well I think it's safe to say you're good for this week if you haven't sent the file already. Proooobably okay for next week too.
  2. Yep, still May. For the whole month even! Sorry for the delayed response, I was off performing at a fundraiser this morning/early afternoon. Anyhow, with Mandamon and Robinksi submitting tomorrow we still have three slots open.
  3. Fear not, there IS an April 1st next year! It's just not a Monday.
  4. @Robinski I've got a slot for you on April 1. Not until 2019, though. Might wanna stick with May 1 instead. So We have @Robinski, @Mandamon, and @Valthyr for Monday.
  5. Yeah, that figures. Prairies, man.
  6. Please do!
  7. The rules and guidelines in this thread have been updated. Please take time to review them.
  8. Hey, at least it isn't snowing. Also, hi, you're practically next door to me! So with @Mandamon and @Robinski submitting we do have three slots left.

To everyone who drew my attention to this thread, thank you. To all of you, I apologize for not being able to respond in a more timely fashion. In particular, I apologize to those who needed support and didn't get it over the last few days. Over the weekend I will be taking @Mandamon's suggestion and adding some points to the Welcome to Reading Excuses thread about not attacking others on the basis of gender, religion, orientation, race, or other categories of identity. It should not need saying, but regardless of need it is certainly worth saying. So that it is absolutely clear where I stand: As a group, we are responsible for making ourselves a welcoming space for diverse and marginalized voices (as a matter of humanity, first and foremost, but let's be clear; our ability or inability to do this absolutely does affect our craft). This is something that we clearly need to get better at. I hope I won't be the only one thinking about the best way to facilitate that process. Per Mandamon's suggestion, I'm going to be locking this thread for now. Please keep an eye out for some modifications to the Welcome to Reading Excuses thread this weekend.
  10. I don't think we've ever not submitted on holidays. Sometimes they're a bit quieter is all. So we have @Ernei @kais @Mandamon @Robinski
  11. Looks like we're good; I see Eagle of the Forest Path, Mandamon, Robinski, and kais for tomorrow.
  12. So it looks like we have five for tomorrow: @neongrey, @Mandamon, @Robinski, @kais, and @Djarskublar. Yeah, it doesn't hurt to be a bit assertive about the slots. I always let everyone know when we have too many submitters lined up. I also don't always have a chance to check the forum for last-minute requests on Monday morning, so I've posted a confirmation on Sunday night and there are still a couple of spots available, it's probably safe to send something if you don't see anyone else on this thread clamouring for the slots.
  13. So we have @Mandamon , @Robinski, and @kaisfor tomorrow. Two slots open if anyone wants to hop in.
  14. Looks right to me. Thanks @Robinski and thanks @Mandamon for offering to hold off! Welcome, @Djarskublar. I'll add you to the list right away. Hey, look, I finally remembered that tagging people is a thing you can do on here.
  15. Look at that, I haven't been in boxing for years and I can still use it to solve problems. Life skills, people!
  16. So for tomorrow, we have M. Puddles, Ernei, rdpulfer, Mandamon, and um, whoever wins what I assume is the imminent fisticuffs match between kaisa and Robinski. ("No, I must insist! After YOU! *whack*")
  17. THIS FORUM AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE FOUR OF US
  18. There's generally up to four trombone parts in a band, if that helps?

Thanks everyone! I don't know whether this will end up being publicly available/available for purchase through the conference, as it will basically just be me giving a talk to everyone who's there. That said, the conference DOES sometimes publish their proceedings, though I have no idea how often they do that or whether they publish ALL of their speakers from a given year, etc. That said, I do have a habit of making presentation transcripts available on my own website, on the days when I get really bored... If I do that with this one I'll let you know.

Sign me up for the train cruise! Maybe not this year, though, This year seems crazy for travelling. Thanks for the congratulations, everyone! The topic is Guy Gavriel Kay's Under Heaven. I'll be comparing the myths of the Kitan and Bogu peoples in Under Heaven to the myths of their real-world counterparts (the Tang Chinese and the Uighur nomad--predecessors of the Mongols) to argue that Kay's portrayal of the myths in Under Heaven reflect Western ways of writing about Central Asian cultures as much as they reflect the cultural beliefs of those peoples at the time.

Sticking my head in to briefly interrupt this conversation about ships and boats because I have a mildly celebratory note and feel like sharing. I submitted a paper proposal to the Academic Conference on Science Fiction and Fantasy! And it was accepted! Hooray!
  22. I've seriously been trying to think of a punch line to that since Sunday night and I still don't have one.
  23. I haven't received any requests from newbies so please do! That's M.Puddles, kaisa and Robinski for tomorrow so far. Also, I'll be out of town next weekend and won't be back until Monday night, so we'll need to elect someone else to count to 5 for that week
  24. I haven't received any requests from any of our new folks yet (and we do have a few) so the list for tomorrow's submission is: aeromancer, Robinski, Mandamon, kaisa, and Ernei.
  25. Done.
