I was thinking steering would be accomplished by steel pushes. Even then you are right about the math being complicated but the scenario given was a full Mistborn/Feruchemist. That means compounded mental speed as well as any other feruchemical ability including mass. So if you wanted to do gravitational steering I don't see why you couldn't. You would just use a lot of iron compounding your mass. Note: There are much better means of doing this available to a full mistborn/feruchemist. I see why Brandon isn't allowing for that option. Talk about DM's nightmare.

Also I didn't take into account relativity. I don't have the background for it myself but according to this Sitel it would only take around 6 years to the person traveling.

Um yeah - So I would hope mine is evident - if you need help with the last word go find a Brandon Sanderson interview. I think he is mentioned at least once in all of the recent interviews. Should be H-oy-d if oy is pronounced the way I think it should be. Google search says I am unique to so anywhere you see this should be me.

I would guess that a Jasnah viewpoint would contain to much information about the radiants and their powers for a first arc book.

Brandon has confirmed that Hoid is not a Shard. We do know that he has access to some form of magic though.

Of course there are other problems - assuming distances between star systems are similar to our galaxy's you are talking at minimum a 20-30 year trip -probably longer. Compounding nutrition and breath would work to keep you alive but most people would have serious mental issues after 20 years of isolation. This is why some method of FTL is usually considered necessarily for anything other than colony ships. Edit: The method would work for intra-system exploration though.

But why would you need that much brass - vacuum is a good insulator - you wouldn't lose much heat. (See the posts by Kurkistan and Cuaiir.) That said put the person in an insulated capsule and then send them - problem solved for sure. Then all you would need is steel and breath and nutrition. Also a full blown space ship will mass more and be way more inefficient then the brass needed Edit: Even better put the person in a brass\steel capsule with a supply of bendalloy and have them use that as their vehicle.

I don't think so - At least the way it is written implies otherwise. That said I suppose it could be possible. But that isn't near as interesting theory-wise.

First, I love the word spagetification. That said it makes a lot of since that that time speed up / slow down would have to do with more/something other then just the physical portion of the realmatic theory. So far as we have seen the physical realm for the cosmere seems to more or less follow the physics that we are familiar with. But we have been completely ignoring the cognitive and spiritual aspect of the speed bubble. The spiritual aspects of the cosmere seem to have to deal with connections between objects/people/shards. So I don't think there would be much of a spiritual aspect(other then the power source) for speed bubbles. However if the speed bubble is mainly a cognitive power with a reflection in the physical world, it could explain the way the borders of a speed bubble act. A cognitive presence would not take up space in the physical realm so when an objects cognitive presence passes the border of the bubble in the cognitive realm then the physical object suddenly slows to realtime causing the jostling/redirection. Because the border doesn't really exist in the physical realm there are no other physical consequences. Also because the cognitive aspect wouldn't really take up "space" the whole physical object slows at once so no spagetification. This may also be how they can do FTL with the bubbles. If the energy lost when objects pass through the border is filtered into the Cognitive realm, maybe they can piggyback on the connection to move the speed bubble and everything inside of it to another location within the cognitive realm with the change being reflected in the physical realm. I'm not quite sure if this thought works though so please pick it apart and let me know what parts wouldn't work/don't make sense.

What if Miles accidentally spiked himself - Putting in a goldmind tore his spiritWeb and latter he moved where that goldmind was spiking himself with some ability when he reattached it someplace else. He didn't die because of his rapid healing abilities - of course that would drastically change his personality.

Theory: Shadesmar Map is Complete
discipleofhoid replied to discipleofhoid's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Regret with honor because of the conversation with Dalinar and westward being the place close to honor. Lost lights with Odium because lack of light and Odium seem to go together. Then the nexus closest to the seas with that sea. Not a very good reason for each more I was just giving an example of a way it could be. -
Theory: Shadesmar Map is Complete
discipleofhoid replied to discipleofhoid's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Ok so maybe we are way off. That is an interesting take on this issue. It deserves some thought. So if understand what you are saying if would be something like Nexus of Truth+Sea of Regret = Honor Sea of Souls + Nexus of Transition = Cultivation Nexus of Imagination + Sea of Lost Lights = Odium -

This would work well this Brandon's statement of strong atomic forces being one of the surges. -
Theory: Shadesmar Map is Complete

Brandon also confirmed that Expanse of densities is a world that we know. Other then that it is all speculation. -
Who else have we seen at this point who can heal with stormlight? Other then that I agree with Happyman - just finish it.

Quote I think supports this theory It is an inworld myth so it could be suspect but I find it interesting that the transformation did not start for several decades. (A generation perhaps? or enough time for people to begin to form a spiritual connection to their "homeland") Something to keep in mind is that Sel's magic is geo-based so that could be why a connection to the location mattered. Also I think this needs its own thread it is quite a distinct theory from the principle of intent.

End- Positive, Negative, and Neutral
discipleofhoid replied to Deus Ex Biotica's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I will give you the possibility of breath decaying over time. There is no evidence to support it and IMO it is unlikely but I can't think of any evidence against it either. However the different size of breath thing occurs naturally. I think the following quote implies this. -
End- Positive, Negative, and Neutral
discipleofhoid replied to Deus Ex Biotica's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think we need to look at the actual definitions of End-Positive, End-Neutral and End-Negitive. From AofL If breaths were consumed as a fuel - then yes this would be end-negative. With awakening that is never the case. With Awakening the power seems to be coming from an outside source - just like with Allomancy or AonDor. Nightblood on the other hand is a different story. -
I would actually guess what Kaladin is gaining is a spiritual power - gravity has been described as the spiritual connection to the planet. I will find the quote and post it.

End- Positive, Negative, and Neutral
discipleofhoid replied to Deus Ex Biotica's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't know if I can agree with parts of this. Two parts in specific: 1.)In the only confirmed end-neutral system we have the power is drawn from the user when being stored and equal amounts of power are later available for their use.(15 secs of 50% weight gives 15 sec of 150% weight.) In Awakening you gather 50 breaths and you can do 50 breaths worth of magic over and over again there is no limit on the length or number of awakenings. Energy for that is not coming from inside the system and thus must be coming from outside of the system making it end-positive. To me a end-neutral system is one with no magical entropy within the system. A end-positive has negative entropy within the system and end-negative has increasing entropy.(Note that this is within the system only.) 2.) Breath is not lost when creating a lifeless. It just sticks to the lifeless and cannot be retrieved it is still there powering the lifeless. The only two things that we know of that actually consume breath are nightblood and returned. To sum up what I am saying - I don't think breath works as an energy source. Brandon has been careful to include most laws of physics and if breath is an infinite energy source 80% of physics goes out the window. I don't think the laws of thermodynamics are being broken here. That means breath cannot be the energy source. (conduit for the energy probably but not the source.) Also note that in the only confirmed end-neutral system the power does get weaker when used and stronger when stored. -
Use of Hemalurgy to the Cosmere
discipleofhoid replied to discipleofhoid's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Returned would be a good example of a semi decent case of hemalurgy. If the returned is going to die anyway but his breath can be used to help other by saving it with hemalurgy you could say that this would be a moral use of hemalurgy. -
End- Positive, Negative, and Neutral
discipleofhoid replied to Deus Ex Biotica's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't think that awakening can be end-neutral. If it was it would require some kind of storage of magic or abilities in order to use it. It doesn't, the breaths can be used and recovered over and over again one right after the other as long as there is color. This implies an End-positive system to me. I don't think the returned are a separate magic system from Awakening either - They seem to be more of a special case within awakening. -
Here is the quote - It sin't in the list of heightenings
