  1. I'm just being picky. I think that the Honorblades are so special that they don't count as just another type of Shardblade. They are more than that. They are extra special Shardblades. Sorry for the confusion, Cheese Ninja is right
  2. My problem with the Tor reread is that, even when they start doing two chapters a week, they still won't finish until january 2014. There are 87 chapters in total, including the Prelude, Prologue, Interludes and Epilogue. Will be excited when we get to do a reread!
  3. I am still not convinced that the Honorblades count as a type of Shardblade. I just think they are too special, especially if they are the Dawnshards. But we will have to see.
  4. I agree that this is a very good point - but I doubt that the Oathgates still work. Perhaps the Parshendi do not know what they have, and a Radiant-to-be (Dalinar?) activates it.
  5. You're on the right track. I'm not sure that this counts as confirming that Honorblades are a type of Shardblade. That was the only relevant quote I could find. Brandon didn't even tell us of multiple Blade types until that Q&A. My understanding is Honorblades are unique works of art and power, and wouldn't therefore count as a "type" of Blade.
  6. Restares perhaps? Glad to see you as cryptic as ever
  7. That is my thought. Or perhaps 5, with two orders sharing a type. Something like that. We will have to wait for more details. Plus, I think its well foreshadowed that Kaladin is going to end up with a Shard Spear of some type. I'm not sure how that fits in.
  8. My theory is that the Honorblades are the Dawnshards, and they are separate from shardblades. In regards to the three types of Blades, I think a hint comes from Dalinar's vision at Feverstone keep. We see two Radiant Orders (the Windrunners and Stonewards) abandon their Blade and Plate there, and I think that the majority of the known Blades in the world are from this supply. There are small differences that Dalinar has not described, perhaps, between them. Szeth has a Blade from a different Radiant Order, one that we didn''t see during Dalinar's visions. They could have smaller Blades. This does make me wonder where Szeth/the Shin got a Blade if it was not from the Feverstone Keep stock. We'll have to wait for Book 3 to get an answer to that, I fear.
  9. You'd have some competition for Shallan, Chaos. She is certainly the one for me! That is because a) She's a redhead. b ) she's hilarious c) While she might have her daddy issues, at least I wouldn't have a horrible father-in-law, as I would if her dad were alive. . . . . . d) Oh yeah, and I guess she's like super-special-magical or something
  10. I completely agree. The new calendar has a 0 date at some point unknown so far. I have no idea what it could be. Not Aharietium; The Prelude is set 4506 years before the present Not the Day of Recreance - "The Recreance is an event so old, it might as well have been in the shadowdays" - Pg 337. A thousand years is a long time, but not that old. Not the Hierocracy - "...like what the Hireocracy said when it had tried to conquer the world five centuries ago." So... a question for Brandon then, and/or a reveal for WoR.
  11. Well count me in! Payment over PayPal?
  12. Well, I would love one, perhaps double-sided with the first ideal of the Radiants on one side and the second ideal of the Windrunners on the other. HOWEVER, I do live in the UK, and so shipping would be different. If you can ship to the UK, then great. If not, I understand.
  13. This. I think they might be the same thing, but we will see. Honor even mentions them as almost essential to Dalinar's success. Even though they are objects of high investiture, Shardblades are too ordinary to be splinters. Seons are sentient, and Divine Breaths grant immortality. Shardblades just cut stuff. Plus, we have shardplate, which may have been stored in the spiritual realm in the past. The Honorblades and dawnshards? I just wish we had more information ...
  14. Roses are red / But can also be blue / If, at great speed, / They come towards you!

  15. Right, having sacked my brain all day, I have an idea. Many brain cells ... died, to bring us this information. When I met Brandon in late 2011, I asked him a few questions. One was about Shallan. Here is the link. I think that he must have mentioned that Shallan has three apprenticeships planned, and that one is with a Herald and one with Hoid. I didn't write it in my notes, then it got lost in the back of my thoughts. I am not sure how convincing you guys will find this however! Interestingly, the next question i asked was this. Brandon said that we have already seen someone in the SA who can use lightweaving. Maybe he was hinting to me that it was Shallan! Next time I ask questions of Brandon, I am doing an audio recording.
  16. OK Peter that's just mean. Now I am unsure whether I am just so dedicated, or so crazy. I am sure I didn't make it up!
  17. Ok I am clearly going crazy. Brandon HAS deffinately said that Shallan will have three apprenticeships, but the best I can find in the interview database is a reference to her beginning her first apprenticeship in tWoK. Does anyone recognise this quote? Or did I have a hyper convincing dream?
  18. Well, I just wanted to connect this to information we already know. Brandon has said that Shallan is going to have three apprenticeships in the SA. First Jasnah, second a Herald and third Hoid. And the Liar of Partinel cheaters available suggest that Hoid can use lightweaving. Just saying ...
  19. I think there are 1114111 allomantic metals. One million, one hundred and fourteen thousand, one hundred and eleven. Before you all call me crazy, let me explain my reasoning, We know that there are allomantic metals, from a 17th shard Q&A in 2010.When I asked Brandon if there were 50 metals, 16 base, 16 lerasium alloys, 16 atium alloys plus lerasium and atium themselves, he indicated I was on the right lines, but asked did Harmony have a metal. I guessed this might be an alloy of atium and lerasium. Today my breakthrough thought was "why does Ruin have a metal?" Ruin is a Shard, but not on associated with Allomancy. Therefore, I thought "Maybe there are more god metals." 16 god metals in fact. What about god alloys, like Harmony's metal? Well, this is where the maths comes in. If there are 16 metals, the combination of Alloys of those metals are (16!)/(2!*(16-2)!), which is 120. But what about further alloys? I am guessing that you could alloy three God metals, and there would be 560. Taking this to its conclusion, there could be an Alloy of all 16 metals. An Adonalsium alloy, perhaps. And what if, for each of these Alloys, there are 16 more Alloys combining that God Alloy with the 16 base metals. There could be 16 more Alloys of the Adonalsium alloy, perhaps, each associated with iron, steel, pewter, tin etc. http://goo.gl/jaj4y This is a link to a spreadsheet that calculates all these combinations, and gives the total number of Metals as 1114111. Admittedly, there are a few issues. One is the number of assumptions I have worked on, Second is that 1114111 isn't itself a multiple of 16. It is actually prime, which I think is cool. Any thoughts?
  20. The Way of Kings takes place in 1173. This is verified by several sources, the best being the caption to the diagram of the Battle of the Tower, which is listed as being circa 1173. The other piece of evidence is the first death quote. This is dated 1171, and we know 500 days is a Rosharan year, close enough. So that puts the arrival of Wit's visitor in the epilogue as being in 1173.
  21. I've been thinking about this for a while, and I don’t know if this has been mentioned before on the forums but here we go. First, Teft links old Vorinism and the Radiants by describing what his parents believed. Secondly, there is a connection between what Vorinism teaches and what we can observe in all our up-and-coming Radiants. Vorinism teaches that And each of our Radiants (Kaladin, Dalinar, Shallan andJasnah) all excel in specific fields (the spear, the sword and war, drawing, and scholarship respectively). Using this, I predict that Navani and Adolin will both become Radiants soon, as both of them are also excellent at being an Artifabrian and a duelist respectively. I think that Vorinism is a relic of the days of the Radiants, and contains information about how to become a radiant. The concepts of a Calling and a Glory tie into this. Thus, to become a Radiant, you need to excel at your profession, and be completely dedicated to emulating an ideal of the almighty. Thus, to start on the path toward becoming a Radiant of the Windrunners, you need to excel at something and dedicate yourself to Protecting. I think this is what separates a Primary from a Secondary divine attribute. To start becoming a Radiant, you need to commit to a Primary Divine Attribute (Kaladin Protects and Shallan is Creative), and I suspect that to advance further as a Radiant you need to dedicate yourself tothe linked Secondary Divine Attribute. My guess is that in Stormlight 2, Kaladin will need to live his life asa leader, and Shallan will need to live an honest life, in order to progress through the Ideals of the Radiants. By the way, there are two big things that this doesn’t explain. Firstly, why have the Radiants returned now? Surely at some point in the last few thousand years, someone has been dedicated to leading and also excelled at something? Secondly, we have no evidence of excellence OR commitment to creativity in Elohkar who seems to be of the same Radiant Order as Shallan. So, my theory is that being dedicated to an Attribute of Honour is not enough to become a Radiant. Vorinism suggests that excellence is necessary. Thoughts?
  22. Heyy Brandon Thanks for taking the time to answer some of these questions! We will all be very appreciative I am sure 1. When Dalinar and Honour are having a "chat" at the end, Honour says "I don't know who you are, or how you found your way here." Does Dalinar visit the Spiritual realm in his dreams then? 2. Does the world map in the Way of Kings show all of the landmasses of Roshar? Does that make the continent on Roshar a Pangaea-like supercontinent? And as I think about it, are there tectonic plates on Roshar? 3. You once told me that Roshar is the name of the planet from the cosmere-literate point of view. Were the dawnsingers cosmere-literate? 4. Is there any use to being a Copper compounder, from a feruchemical point of view? I think the same point would also apply to an Aluminium compounder. Thanks again!
  23. Maybe Sel is mentioned frequently because of the similarity between Aon Dor and Allomancy. Both are end positive and both use Physical Foci. From this point of view, they are the two most similar magic systems we have seen in the Cosmere. It is for this perpose that Sel is mentioned in the Essay at the end. As far as we know, there isn't much Realmatic similarity between any other magic systems. The author is also familiar with Scadrial enough to name the Kandra by that name, rather than the Faceless Immortals, and implies that s/he knows more about the Kandra in the AoL timeline than we do. This makes it seem that the author is quite knowledgeable about Scadrial.
  24. By the way I have made a crude Steel Alphabet to english alphabet. This is not completely accurate for the Alloy of Law however. In the allow of Law version, there are different symbols meaning E and i, the difference is a moved dot. Also, the letter c is introduced, which is in the place of the ch letter on the attatched.
  25. On this page http://goo.gl/O4Q4I there is an easter egg hinted by Peter on twitter yesterday. There is a hidden sentance in both the alethi script and steel alphabet. Is says: Exciting!
