  1. “Is there anything else we can do to help you?”
  2. “Your brain was built right. It might not be the same as others, but that doesn’t mean it’s not right. You have a good brain, at least for me. That’s why I like you.” He smiled at her again, hoping it would help.
  3. He smiled back, then leaned into the kiss again. Eventually, he pulled away. “Could…it be related to the voice?”
  4. This was…good, right? It was definitely distracting her, was that a good thing? He liked it…
  5. He smiled back. Did that smile mean she was ok? Probably not, at least not all the way. He leaned down and kissed her.
  6. “Well I’m here for you to talk to. I’m here for you, Jen.”
  7. He hugged her as tightly as he dared. “Thank you for telling me, I…I know how hard it can be. I want to help, can I? Is talking helping?”
  8. He did, wrapping an arm around her again, pulling her gently so that, if she let him, her head would be against his chest again, his arm around her. “What is it? What’s wrong?”
  9. “Of course, anything for you,” he whispered back. He helped her stand.
  10. Edgar slowly put down his blowgun. He could think about that strange boy later, right now Jenny needed him much more. She was crying, and that scared him. He was so bad at knowing what to do when people were crying. Did she him to leave, to ignore it, to offer help? He wrapped his arms around her again, letting her head rest against his chest. That was what he was supposed to do, right?
  11. “That’s our problem, not yours. I’m not going to tell you.”
  12. “Make sure you can’t hurt us.”
  13. “We won’t kill you. But you have to understand, it’s hard to trust random ‘people’ in our situation.”
  14. “You haven’t given us a reason to cool off.” He still didn’t lower his weapons. He’d scared Jenny so much… Edgar wouldn’t easily forget that.
  15. “I don’t trust you.” He shivered, but he was used to fear. He didn’t move.
  16. Edgar slowly let go of her. Gift shifted into a small blowgun, and he grabbed the poison. Jenny might need it.
  17. Edgar still clung to her, as much for his own good as hers. Gift flowed up to his arm again, almost as if in anticipation. Which was stupid, because Gift couldn’t think.
  18. “I’’m real. He’s real. It’s all real.”
  19. Edgar watched him carefully. “Jenny, I won’t let him do anything to you,” he said. That was the right thing to say, right?
  20. Edgar still held to her, doing his best to help her. ”W…why are you here?”
  21. He turned slowly, then jumped slightly, not letting go of Jenny. “Who are you?” @The Aspiring Archivist
  22. Edgar held her, praying that whatever had come upon her would pass, he moved so he was staring into her eyes. What did she see?
  23. “Jenny! Jenny, I need you!” he cried, rocking her back and forth.
  24. Edgar felt something tugging at his sleeve, pulling him towards where Jenny had gone. He leapt to his feet and ran to her. She was crying… and in trouble. He wrapped his arms around her, hugging her close.
