Edgar started shaking. What more could he do? He needed to help her. With a trembling hand he removed a couple painkillers from his bag and held them out to Jenny.
”I know…”
He squeezed it back. Maybe it was the nose hurting her? She seemed to be in a lot of pain. He grabbed her bag and fumbled around in it, cutting himself twice before finding the earplugs he had made. He put them in her ears, hoping they would help some. Then he took off his own pack, putting it under her head to cushion it.
He helped her to the ground, brushing a steady stand of hair out of her face. Why was it so much easier for him to be the one in pain? Now it was Jenny, and he didn’t know how to help.
“What hurts?”
Edgar felt anger rising up through him. Couldn’t Roy just leave her alone for a little bit? He was probably the cause of this. Edgar fought the urge to turn around and punch Roy.
“He isn’t just an annoyance. He’s tried to kill me several times and Jenny once,” he said in a low voice, so no one else could hear. “And he talks about plans sometimes, and a master. He’s got me very worried, and I think you should be too.”
“It…hurts. It really does. And I’m sorry you’ve had to feel it too. But I am glad that you’re here with me too.” He yelped in pain suddenly, then blushed just slightly.
“All of them…”
Edgar pulls Lucid behind him. “Knock it off Aaron, he didn’t hit you that hard. If that hurt, you’re really going to struggle when things get tough.”
