He drank it. “Maybe.” He took a wobbly step. Pain and nausea exploded through him, and he collapsed. “Not yet, at least not without support,” he said after he had recovered enough.
He looked her dead in the eye. “I am. I can make it so you win while neither killing or being killed, stepping up or being stepped on. You will see your family again. I’m the one looking out for you.”
He reached out with his good arm, touching her arm. “We don’t need to worry about that right now. Focus on the games, then find your family when you’re done.”
“That’s or Daniel for you. He’s so good at helping others…you almost can’t believe that he’s dealing with his demons like the rest of us.” He smiled fondly.
Daniel blushed.
“Don’t leave, please. I’ve only seen him for a couple minutes and I can already tell Daniel’s happier with you. That alone is enough to have you stay. She just needs time to comprehend what’s happened.”
He looked into her eyes. You are incredible. The kids already love you, you’re acting perfectly because you’re acting like yourself. Just keep doing that.
Jimmy ran over and hugged her legs. “Thanks for playing!”
Really.
He smiled widely at her, then let go as Jane threw herself at his legs, surprising him and knocking him into the lava. Jimmy started moving towards Rex.
He held her on.
One person. Usually I let Jimmy win. I just can’t make it obvious, at least not to him. Sometimes Jane and Lily get the better of me though, they just keep getting stronger. He smiled fondly.
