Could she read his mind? That would be cool. He undid her bun, then started to try to braid her hair in return. It was a decent braid for his first attempt, though nowhere near Lucid’s skill.
He laughed too. It was good to hear him laugh, so much better than seeing how she had been moments before. That had scared him. He hoped he’d never scare her like that. He also hoped she’d kiss him again.
He kissed her back, enjoying her closeness. Did this mean she was doing better? Was she just trying to make him feel better? If that was the case…well it was working. He smiled widely at her.
“You tried to help him. And I don’t think that was what messed him up. And I think Elsie…well those two seem to have a special connection.”
He paused for a moment, fear creeping into his voice. “And you leaving me would make things so much worse.”
“I hope they’re together. And I’m sure you were a great grandchild.” He didn’t point out the fact that statistically they would both be in asphodel, wandering endlessly.
