  1. I don't have a problem with chapter topics, all I was saying is it won't be a single chapter at a time. So you might see a topic for chapters one through three, instead of an individual topic for each. Nothing's really concrete yet, though.
  2. I wouldn't be surprised if Vorinism was somewhat different, but I certainly oppose any sort of conscious subversion, if only because he already played that card in Mistborn.
  3. Oh, I gotcha. I'm dangerously low on book money myself. I need to get back to work, but that's not exactly a fun option either :/
  4. I think it's more coincidence than anything else. If I had any evidence that Sel has a Physical place where you can walk on in to Shadesmar, I'd be more convinced. I think if Urithiru really is in Shadesmar, it was probably accessed via the Oathgates. I don't know why he would show up in the X on the Mea. Are you theorizing that the abundance of thought allows someone to go to and from Shadesmar more easily there? We've had name coincidences before, as well. These sorts of things come up when you write so many series. If an author likes the sound of a word, they might use it more than once. Such as Shash being a letter on Nalthis and a number on Roshar, or the similarities between the names of Kaladin and Kalad. We know for a fact that they aren't the same person, considering Kalad is Vasher. I think that this is certainly an interesting and creative idea, but I personally doubt that it is true. Good way to think outside the box, though!
  5. I doubt there would be any problem with Mythwalker, considering it's available to everyone and Warbreaker's been published. You probably just want to be sure to specify that it's non-canon.
  6. They also, somehow, have physical and enhancement effects.
  7. I think the answer is that it's just decoration and unrelated to the latitude of Roshar.
  8. Oh wow! You're not missing too much cosmere stuff except the essay at the end, but it's an excellent read, full of ties back to the original trilogy, as well as a cameo appearance by a couple of our admins, Josh and M'ich. Have you read The Emperor's Soul?
  9. I don't want to burst your bubble, but this theory has been put forth before. It's located right here. If it's any consolation, I love the basic idea, I've espoused that same idea myself. It's a great one I do disagree with some of the things you've said about Hemalurgy, Surgebinding and a few others, though. I ran through this concept on featured theories a while back. (Man, I need to start doing those again...)
  10. Hah, a lot of people thought the same exact thing when the Hoid thing was pointed out in the very beginning, so you're not alone! Scott Lynch is one of my favorite authors, I can hardly wait for Republic of Thieves. I'm glad you decided to come out of the shadows and join us
  11. Here you are:
  12. Okay, the cosmere/commerce thing seriously made me laugh out loud. From talking to Josh, we haven't been planning on doing it a single chapter at a time. And as for the thing about subsections, I really am of the opinion that I don't want any hard and fast rules on that. If it's something you and others want to do, that's fine. While tagging stuff for the interview database, one thing I've noticed is that it's really hard to delineate things with such black and white lines. Magic and the cosmere are inextricably linked. Kaladin and his story are tied to how he gained magic. I see it as being really difficult to separate into sections.
  13. Hmm, let me think on this a bit. I personally, would not be opposed to a subforum for the reread. The question there would be whether we make a new topic for every installment, or simply allow everyone to make their own topics, or some combo of both. That all can be ironed out. I'm not sure about your second suggestion though. I don't want to tell people what specifically they have to reply to and in what order. And, if I may ask, why commerce implications? That seems kind of oddly specific, to me at least.
  14. I think the thing that's tripping you up is Sazed referring to him as both Rashek and the Lord Ruler interchangeably. In this case, the name doesn't refer to when he changed things. As the posts above me say, he simply created the mistwraiths while holding the power of the Well.
  15. Basically, that's the general idea, although we're welcoming any suggestions on what else you'd like to see. I'll be helping with this, and in general I'd be looking at a much quicker summary than Tor does, considering that in theory most of you are reading along with us. A little bit of epigraph discussion, and then a move on to how this impacts the rest of the book, series, and cosmere itself. I'd put those in marked spoiler sections so if this was the first time you're reading it, you won't get spoiled on it all. Just as a note, this isn't a guarantee of what it's going to look like, more my general ideas on it.
  16. The Elantris reread started out a couple of months ago on Shardcast, there's three or four episodes now. There's been kind of a hiatus right now, with all those podcasters being super busy, but it'll get going again before too terrible long. And there are other things along this line in the works. Just keep an eye out.
  17. That's Szeth's Oathstone, unless I've missed something, they're discussing the dark sphere that Gavilar gave to Szeth in his final moments.
  18. I'm pretty sure I heard Mi'ch say that the second trilogy would fall 50ish years after Alloy. If I remember right, we're looking at a 1960's tech level, although it won't be precisely the same since Scadrial is further ahead in some fields and further behind in others.
  19. Oh, Splintered Shards can reform. Brandon confirmed that in our forum Q&A. As for the number of Returned in the Court of Gods, I don't think it would be particularly informative. Returned Return all across Nalthis, so I'd imagine that the number of gods in the Court is more dependent on how much attention or importance Endowment feels Hallendran is currently, rather than some limit on divine Breath. As for a population limit, I personally believe that wouldn't affect Endowment any more than it would any other Shard because I think that Breath is simply a part of a regular human Spiritual aspect that can be given away.
  20. I think there's 50ish or so. There are just plenty of palaces that are currently empty. If I find the quote, I'll post it. EDIT: Here's Lightsong pondering that same question: DOUBLE EDIT: This is Lightsong noticing the room for goods during the court assembly, but presumably there are enough palaces for all the gods that can fit in the assembly. I'd imagine that there must be some upper limit of Returned on Nalthis, otherwise Endowment would give away all of his/her power.
  21. Good to have you back, man. I saw one of your old posts the other day, and was wondering whatever happened to you.
  22. Just as an aside, I strongly doubt Nalizar has a Forgotten. If I'm remembering right, that's what had attached itself to Harding, and it seemed largely unintelligent. I don't even think Nalizar's body is present. Something stronger and smarter than a Forgotten has taken Nalizar's shape.
  23. Oooh, so fun idea. We know that if someone draws Nightblood it's gonna feed off their Breaths until it kills them. It's utilizing the Breaths for energy. But, what if the person drawing Nightblood was infused with Stormlight? Would he be able to use that energy instead, or would it not work because it's from Honor/Cultivation/Odium/godonlyknowswhat?
  24. Sorry to disappoint, Kurk, but I am the original, post-Zas, quotemaster. This was about two months ago, by the way.
  25. Personally, I strongly strongly disagree. From an outside standpoint, Brandon can't add more basic metals. The Metallic Arts are complicated enough as is, we don't need another eight pure metals and their alloys. Don't even get me started on atium, lerasium, and whatever other god metal alloys are possible. I don't see why the metals being man-made would effect how they were counted. It's not like dyes mixed by humans in Warbreaker don't count as colors. It's a good thought, but kind of impractical. Brandon's released the final table, as Phantom said, and there's no room for any changes.
