Deaths, Character Arcs, Couples, etc.
Windrunner replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
Personally, I think protecting people is more the Windrunners' focus, rather than the Radiants as a whole. I do think Shallan will be a Radiant though, just that her order will have a different focus. -
Hey GreyPilgrim, good to have you here! Stormlight is my favorite of Brandon's works as well. If you get a chance to read Emperor's Soul, go for it, it's excellent! Hope to see you around

We were all watching you on the hangout and talking in the chatroom and everyone thought it was RAFO-bait. We were all through the roof.

Are spren attracted to somebody/something or do they cause it?
Windrunner replied to Meg's topic in Stormlight Archive
I really think Brandon and his team have more important things to be doing than fact checking a Tor opinion blog. They're busy getting Words of Radiance done, working on art, revising, and all that other good stuff that gets us the work of art that Brandon always produces. Brandon's not gonna have Peter drop his editing of WoR and fact check the Tor blog. And, why would Brandon refute the article even if it did have an error? As you so rightly said, they're his publisher, that wouldn't look terribly good. Everyone understands these articles to be basically Carl's thoughts on spren along with some facts that he collected. And on the topic of the Nightwatcher. In The Way of Kings, we're not supposed to understand the nature of the Nightwatcher. So why would Brandon give them behind the scene information on the Nightwatcher to exclude it in his article? This is nothing more than a simple oversight on Carl's part, or perhaps he personally doesn't consider the Nightwatcher to be a spren. You're absolutely right in saying that the book quotes are a great refresher or resource. i would just be hesitant to consider any of Carl's opinions as factual. He calls them opinions too. He doesn't differentiate Syl from the rest of the windspren, which we all know to be untrue. -
Theory: Gavilar and the Parshendi
Windrunner replied to Wherethewindgoes's topic in Stormlight Archive
They still won the Last Desolation though, because humanity wasn't destroyed by the Voidbringers. I view the, "we lost" as being "we lost in the long due to the fact that the Heralds quit". -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Windrunner replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Mistborn can become savants, The Lord Ruler was savant or near savant in almost every metal. Savantism happens because of changes to your body due to the constant stream of power running through you. This applies to both Mistings and Mistborn. -
Well, how dead Honor is depends on what you mean by "dead" and "Honor". If you simply mean that Honor is Splintered, then we know that Splintered Shards can reform. If you're talking about Tanavast in the other hand, he's pretty dead and I doubt we'll be seeing more of him in anywhere beside the visions. I disagree that the return of Honor would end the highstorms. Even back before the Last Desolation, long before Honor died, Dalinar's visions showed him people living in a lait and all the life still as being prepped for highstorms (curnips and lurnips). We don't even know for sure if Honor is the only Shard responsible for highstorms. Ruin and Preservation both had a touch on the mists.

Kalladin wood weapon against a Sharplate or Clasmfiend ?
Windrunner replied to Natans's topic in Stormlight Archive
The same exact type of fabrials used in half-shards will not work. (If that's not what you were saying, my apologies.) And, I want to reiterate again that if this hypothetical spear is as good as the very best fabrials, it will block a Shardblade once and be destroyed. So, not very useful in my own opinion. -
Kalladin wood weapon against a Sharplate or Clasmfiend ?
Windrunner replied to Natans's topic in Stormlight Archive
Those two fabrials are not the same as the half-shards, though, they cannot stop a Shardblade(although, they are probaby all Augumenters). Navani has never even seen a half-shard to begin with, and as half-shards can only take the shape of a shield, they cannot use that fabrial technology to enhance a spear. There's something greater to the Shardplate and Shardblades, and I don't think any simple fabrial would be able to stand up to them for long. Even if the half-shard technology could be applied to a spear, it would break on the first hit, not terribly useful. If someone could develop a Shardspear, or Shards period, I think it would have been done by now. There's a huge motivation and demand for Shards, and the most talented people in the world have had precious little luck in developing them. Probably Splinters of some sort are involved, in my opinion. But anyway, I doubt that there will be a Shardspear. If there were other types of Radiant weaponry, they would have been seen. Dalinar's vision showed a whole company of Radiants from two different Orders, all wielding Shardblades. I think it's far more likely that Blades are the only option, than it is that every single one of those men preferred fighting with a sword to any other weapon type. I don't want to come across as too much of a buzzkill, but I just don't see it as being terribly likely. Kaladin isn't even going to be facing any Shardbearers in the future, so far as Dalinar knows. He and his men are going to be patrolling the warcamps and lands surrounding the Shattered Plains for the next year (or at least that's the plan) so Dalinar has no reason to believe Kaladin would face a Shardbearer or have need of any sort of special spear. -
There won't be a transcription, because I'm pretty sure that just came up over dinner, but yeah, Brandon said that.

Theory: The Nightwatcher is Cultivation's shardpool
Windrunner replied to Gaelan's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm not quite sure what you're saying here. Are you saying it moves, or not? I think people mostly can't find it because they don't know precisely where it is. The Valley itself has a precise location and does not move, considering that it's marked on the world map. I strongly disagree. The Tor.com articles, while fun to read, are not vetted by Brandon or Peter. That guy has no better idea of what the Nightwatcher is than any of the rest of us fans.- 47 replies

Brandon's gonna try to make that a trend. He'll push for Shallan to be on book three.
-
No, I guarantee it was not on purpose. We were talking to him about it later, and he said that he thought he heard theofficetroll say Ashyn, he didn't even remember that we didn't know the name of the planet yet.
-
Humm. If it's spelled "Brayse" that's quite a coincidence, considering that Rayse is there. EDIT: Also, by the way, to anyone who was planning on making wiki articles out of these, we're gonna hold off on that until we get specific spelling confirmation from Peter.
-
Nice, I'm calling Brayse as Damnation, right now
-
Another thing to remember is that the greatest Elantrians, the most practiced and powerful, were nearly broken by the Dor after this happened, too stunned to even defend themselves from the mobs. If anyone would have been able to figure it out, it would have been them, and they died first.

I think there is definitely something to the significance attached to rocks on Roshar. However, I think it's unlikely that there's a direct connection between Rock's name and whatever Tien seems to be doing. I see this as being extremely unlikely. Hoid is centuries to millenia old, born on another planet. Rock is in his twenties or thirties and born on Roshar. There just doesn't seem to be a possibility for overlap there.

I'm personally very certain that Dilaf had nothing to do with this. My belief is that the pressure in the Spiritual Realm caused by the mindless Shards was transferred over into the Physical Realm, causing the chasm. I need to post the full version of this theory...

Time bubble interaction and subjective burn rates
Windrunner replied to Kurkistan's topic in Mistborn
@Kurk Not to argue with you on time bubbles, considering you've put many many more hours of thought into them than I ever have, but I don't think those two are exactly the same. In the second image, if you're in the center circle, sure you're moving faster than those guys in the outer circle, but you're also moving at the same speed that the people outside the two circles are. So, if you're waiting on someone's intervention from outside the circle, it's gonna be a lot more effective. Am I missing something? And I could have sworn that I read somewhere that Brandon wanted to make use of the two bubble thing, but if it is real, it was a long time ago and I don't remember where I read it xD- 39 replies

I was about to say that. It's much nicer than the old one. I like how it fits pictures that have been posted in there too.

Anyone have any info from ConnectiCon?
Windrunner replied to Kurkistan's topic in Events and Signings
That's a great way to look at it. And Brandon's fanbase is growing every day. -
No problem, I'm always happy to help.

Thanks for keeping us posted! -
Okay, I went through the Dalinar reading with a fine toothed comb, and managed to figure out pretty well what he was saying everywhere, except for the place where he self edited. I can't make heads or tails of that, but if anyone has any ideas, let me know. I also updated the Taravangian link to the Tor posting of the interlude, which is guaranteed to be accurate. Also, I don't like leaving gaps where it just says (name) because it can make it hard to follow who is doing what. So I put in approximations of names, spelled as best as I can guess, so you can at least follow what's going on. Enjoy!
