  1. AN ADDRESS TO MODERN SOCIETY:

    Where did the days go
When we made marble statues of less-than-average people,
    Showcased their imperfections,
    And then admired them?

    Where did the days go
When we rejoiced in someone's good despite their bad
Rather than hating their small faults
    Despite all of their beauty?

    Where did the days go
Where happiness was a daily expectation,
Where it was taken for granted
Because there was so much of it to go around?

Did the years wear you out so much
    That they took your ability
To revive the weak, broken, and tired,
    And love the lonely?

To be a friend to the friendless?

To forget your conditions and only truly love?

    I won't lie; I am not perfect
    Or even good
At most of these things I've stated above.

    Few of us are,

But it is because we are too afraid to try
    Alone.

So, Society, pick up your feet.
--Heal the broken and tend the sick
Even if sickness makes you anxious,
Because wouldn't you want to be helped?--
And we will do this together.

    Shattered ones
Who carry permanent emblems from the battles you have fought
And the battles you have WON,
    We love you.
So love others, and pull them out of the trenches with your strong, battle-worn arms.

    Whole ones
    Beautiful ones
    Wealthy ones
    Glad ones
    Who have happiness to spare,
Share it with those who have none, and it will grow.

    And to all,
    Build statues
    Draw pictures
    Write passages and novels
    And poems and love letters
    To and of each other;
    Who may be less-than-average people*
    And admire them. Behold them
    In your work of art
And regard them as the glorious creations they are.

You do not have to love them.

But you must acknowledge their beauty,

    Because it is there.

If you don't want to spread happiness
    And share in the joy
And revel in the beauty of others
    That's fine.
You, Society, will end up alone
And you will wish for someone to save you
Though you were not willing to save us.

    Make your choice, Society.

We will be waiting for you.

    Spoiler

*(this is a rather subjective term, though that is a whole other address to be written at another time)

It's late at night, which is when my thoughts tend to really peak. So that's my word vomit for now. @The Halcyon Girl, @Wittles@The Wandering Wizard, and I were all discussing today's societal norms and stereotypes and I said something about how ancient Grecians used to make marble statues out of everyday people, and they're absolutely beautiful, so why can't we see that in our own society now? Like why can't we admire the people who are not society's idea of "perfect"? So that's where this whole thing stemmed from haha. Love y'all!

    Get some sleep. :)
