  1. “And the knives?” She looks around suspiciously. “Actually, you can answer that later. We should get back to the inn.”
  2. “Hmm…” Rayvyn says. “Still, I think they’d find a way. People can be determined when they want to.” She looks at Tacien. “So he’s never communicated at all? No words, no signs, nothing but the drawings?”
  3. “Are you sure? There are a lot of magicians out there. I’m sure they could find a way to read his mind, at least.”
  4. Rayvyn chuckles dryly. “Knowledge is power. Everyone wants more knowledge. There are hundreds, thousands, of things his knowledge could let them do, and few of them are good.”
  5. Rayvyn thinks for a minute. “I think…I think they want Tacien. There’s definitely more to him than meets the eye, and people usually like to exploit these kinds of things.”
  6. Rayvyn shakes her head, picking up the knife. “This knife is too fine for most thieves, and I doubt that there’s much of value in a child‘s room anyway.” Turning to Klave, she says, “Don’t worry, no one will hurt him while I’m here.”
  7. Rayvyn glares at the brother. “You need to tell us everything. Has this happened before? What makes you think you can protect him?”
  8. Ravelast: Sixth Archive Gateway Rue nods and lets her go. Light. There was probably a more sensitive way to handle that. Some friend I am.
  9. Rayvyn nodded. "Interesting...and in all your years with him, you've never figured anything out?" A small smirk appears on her face. "Betcha we'll get it soon enough."
  10. Rayvyn doesn't sit, but she nods. "I believe you're his brother. But I think you're underestimating the things children can do, when they need to. Some of the things I've done, even at his age..." She gives a quick, tight smile. "Nevermind." She pulls out a notebook and pencil she brought along for this purpose. "Tacien...are you ready to tell us your story now?"
  11. "I don't know," Rayvyn admitted. "I'd only just gotten there myself. But I would have protected him if any of them had tried to hurt him." She hesitates, then decides to try a different tactic. "Tell me about his eyes. I've seen eyes of nearly every color," she blinks her own purple ones as if to prove it, "but never ones that change the way his do."
  12. "That's where we were just now. And...well, you know he's not exactly a normal six-year-old. Besides, there were much crazier things going on at the time."
  13. Rayvyn watched him for a long moment. He sounds like he cares. Maybe it would be okay to leave...no. Something about this isn't right. "Would you and your brother like to stay at the Mishmash Inn with the rest of us?"
  14. Ravelast: Sixth Archive Gateway Rue nods. "How are you going to change this? What are you going to do so that if a situation like this ever comes up again, it will turn out differently?" @InfiniteInsanity
  15. Rayvyn, who was also there, eyed the house suspiciously. "Why aren't your parents here? Do they not care about their son? Tacien, do you think you'd be safe here?"
  16. Rayvyn raises an eyebrow at the brother. “You happen to forget any details about your relationship?”
  17. Rayvyn intercepts him. "Fair point," she acknowledges, knowing how harsh streets in any universe can be, "But I'm still not just going to let you take him." Addressing the boy, she says, "Is this what you want? Will he hurt you?" She grabs a paper from the stack and hands it to him with a pencil. The look in her eyes dares the brother to challenge her.
  18. Rayvyn cocked her head, pulling her knife away and twirling it carefully. She was a different person with her knives in her hands. "Are you the reason he's hurt, the reason he won't talk? Family means nothing when you abuse the privilege."
  19. "No," Rayvyn said, and suddenly her knife was at his throat. "You aren't taking him."
  20. Rayvyn swallowed, slipping out 2 more knives. I really am going through a lot of these today, she thought ruefully. Covering her nervousness with impatience, she opens the door and says, “Yes? What do you want?”
  21. Ravelast: Sixth Archive Gateway “Oh,” Rue says awkwardly. “I…I’m sorry, Insa. I don’t know if this helps, but I don’t think you’re the kind of person who would purposely kill others. I’m sure it was a simple mistake, one that whoever it was will understand…” @InfiniteInsanity
  22. Rayvyn smiles at the boy, trying to calm him. His first picture was of him climbing out of a window, but I didn't think much of it. She hesitates, then sends firmly, I won't give him to his brother without fighting, and trust me, I can fight. If he really did run away, then it was for a reason.
  23. Rayvyn stiffens, feeling a strange burst of protectiveness. What do you need to know? He's terrified, he doesn't talk, his eyes change color. Nothing's changed.
  24. Rayvyn gasps as the voice. Stay out of my head, she thinks. Also, uh, hi. Is there a reason for this?
