"We don't need to take all of them, we just need to be a hard enough target that they don't think it's worth it to fight us. Staying here only one of them can attack us at once, so long as we control the top of the stairwell we win," Itzal said.

Not to mention the bell acts as a powerful weapon if we need to use it, and I have more than just a sling for my defense, Itzal thought, resting a hand reassuringly on his sword.

Crowe sighed, the sprite was right.

But he hated letting those men destroy the rest of the city and antagonize the people. He felt like he should be able to do more.

Crowe moved over to the top of the stairwell. He ought to do what he can before he tried to do what might not be possible.

"We stand and fight," Itzal said, taking out his sling, and reaching into his pouch, he had several oblong lead projectiles inside, that he had taken the time to inscribe "Catch" on.

"Val, you've hunted with a blowgun back on Vitera haven't you?"

    @DramaQueen

"I'm all for fighting," Crowe said, "But we are vastly outnumbered, and unless you can somehow take several hundred men by yourself, I'd rather not die today."

I wonder if the tavern keeper will make me pay for my drink after all of this, he thought.

"Is there a more strategic way we could get to them? maybe hit and run?"

Frialio eyes start to gleam "Ah, biology... so... what is your specialty? Is this your first time off world? What can you do? Have any of the proteins you were trying to make, study, or use spontaneously combusted? Have you ever wanted to burn your lab? Would you describe yourself as dangerous? If you make a biological weapon would you give it to me? Have you ever worked under a mentally unstable Ai? Have ever worked under someone who is 200 years old and know human biochemistry extremely well, oh and is very unstable?"

"I like to study evolution, it fascinates me the most, this is my first time off world, I'm a bit nervous actually, I'm proficient in biology, I have a few other skills but I'm not sure how useful they'll be on Namaka, I've never had a protein spontaneously combust on me, I haven't ever wanted to burn my lab down, but I do get pretty frustrated sometimes, I do go to the gym but I've never been trained in combat so I don't think I'd be much of a threat, I would probably never make a biological weapon because it is unethical and illegal, if I did find myself in that situation I don't think I would give it to you, I have never worked under a mentally unstable Ai, I have also never worked under someone who is 200 years old as that is physically impossible for a human being, unless of course your referring to the aforementioned Ai, I have never really studied human biochemistry in depth though I'm sure its quite fascinating." Bennu said without skipping a beat.

Dr. Frialio was going to be a very interesting person to work under.

"They're..." Ahna waved frustratedly. "Just... looting? Duh?"

    "We need to evacuate them?"

"I wouldn't, small groups and lone runners will have higher survival rates, and we'd be exposing anyone who found fortifications. Waiting this out will be best for everyone."

He shrugged, "That may be true, but we need to do something, I'm a pretty good fighter but I don't know how much of a difference one guy will make."

Is there a local army/ militia that's fighting back at all?

  5. 7 minutes ago, Channelknight Fadran said:

"I think it's quite clear what they're up to." Ahna watched on as they ransacked house after house

"Oh," he said, shifting his attention to view of advancing soldiers. He felt far too jumpy, crowds made it some much harder to sense if someone was sneaking up on him.

"Should we try to evacuate the people? This could easily turn into a massacre,"

  6. 10 minutes ago, Frustration said:

Mercenaries don't have great loyalty, they might try and attack us a few times, but if we can hold out they'll move on to easier targets." Itzal said.

"Ouch," Crowe muttered, but he didn't press it further.

    1 minute ago, Frustration said:

"That we have no idea who this army is, what they want, their objectives, anything. This could be a false flag opperation, it could be a third realm has joined the war, it could be a group of deserters, it could be something else entirely, and we have no way of knowing."

"What do they gain from attacking this town? Its not particularity valuable from a tactical perspective is it?"

  7. 4 minutes ago, Channelknight Fadran said:

"The belltower should be defensible. What weapons do you use?"

"I'm good with pretty much anything," he said. Crow pulled out his axe from where it had been slung across his back. He disliked pulling out weapons in large crowds of people. It usually caused a stir.

But at the moment everyone was already pretty scared so it was probably fine.

4 minutes ago, Channelknight Fadran said:

The stairs up the belltower absolutely killed her calves, but soon enough she'd reached the top. Several others seemed to have had the same idea, including a set of winded-looking elderly folk and... were those sprites? Two sprites, in Drakefell?

"Are you guys okay?" Ahna asked.

The bell tower was taller then he expected. From here he could easily see tropes bearing a red banner of some sort. He didn't recognize it.

  8. 7 minutes ago, The Last Fæ said:

Frialio turns, Frialio stares in utter fear, Frialio ceases looking like they are about to be pushed out of the beanstalk, then says "Yes, but before we go any further, here." and then hands Bennu a peppermint.

"Oh, uh, thanks," Bennu said. Did his breath smell bad? He nervously put the peppermint in his mouth.

"My name is Bennu Caspinson, I'm an astrobiologist. Fetu said we would be working together."

  9. 27 minutes ago, Channelknight Fadran said:

"Ahnalyn." She drew her shortblade, more for the familiar comfort of the hilt than anything. "Belltower."

11 minutes ago, Channelknight Fadran said:

Running towards the belltower, Ahnalyn couldn't help but continuously glance back at the charging forces. "We aren't anywhere near the front... those surely can't be demons?"

"Whoever they are," he said catching up with her, "They don't seem very friendly."

He scanned the crowd. "Hey, do you see your boss anywhere?"

sorry I disappeared for a few days, I tried to respond earlier today but the shard crashed on me lol

Bennu tried not to think about how high they were as he climbed out of his seat. He also ignored his slight nausea. Shia was already introducing herself to another group of people so he wandered around looking for Dr. Frialio. It would be rude not to introduce himself

He walked over to a group of gentlemen having a conversation.

"Would any of you be Dr. Frialio?" He asked.

    @The Last Fæ

"Unsure yet. Boss said he'd meet us here."

    "Okay," Crowe said.

He tapped his mug on the edge of the table, idly wondering if her boss was already in the tavern's crowd somewhere.

"My name's Crowe, by the-" he had started to say when he heard the war horn. He was standing in an instant, watching the battle.

"I think we should get moving"

  12. 14 minutes ago, Channelknight Fadran said:

"The guy I'm working for right now is... something of a treasure hunter." She shrugged, looking a little sheepish. "We get a cut of whatever he tracks down."

    "So . . . we're treasure hunting?" he asked.

  13. 8 minutes ago, Channelknight Fadran said:

"Sure am, though I dunno what type of wage you take." Ahna held up two fingers. "Are you a case-by-case merc, or are you open to longer hauls?"

"I've done both kinds in the past," Crow said, "As for pricing, I'll need to know what I'm doing first, as I'm sure you can imagine, the harder the job the bigger the bill."

  14. 17 hours ago, Channelknight Fadran said:

Ahnalyn slid into a seat beside him, mug of something or other in her hand. "You're the merc, huh?"

"That's right!" He said enthusiastically. He wasn't sure who this person was, but if he could convince her to pay the tab by the end of the conversation, he didn't mind.

"Are you in the market for a guy who's good at hitting things?"

Sooooo....shall we get this party started, as the kids say?

    Yes! let the party begin!

Crow sat at a table outside the tavern. He was waiting for something interesting to happen.

He watched as large crowds of people traveled up and down the busy street.

Something interesting was going to happen. He could feel it in his toes- and they were very good at sensing this sort of thing.

That person, barely able to stand, making their way slowly over to the elevator.

Shia entered the elevator, but Bennu strayed behind still nervous about it all. He noticed someone having difficulty walking and decided to see if there was something he could do.

"Would you like some help?" He offered.

  17. Happy Thursday to everyone, even if its not Thursday where you are.

So, I thought I would share this painting I did in my art class. I took a picture of it because I might not be able to keep the physical version. My teacher is going to try to submit it to a local art auction for high school level art. My teacher isn't sure if he can get it submitted in time, but I'm honored that he would choose one of my paintings. Even if it doesn't get into the auction or if it doesn't do well in the auction, it's a huge compliment to even be given the opportunity, you know?

I think it's a tad wonky as a whole, but considering it's one of the first times I've used watercolor for a piece like this I think it's pretty good.

    I have a question for y'all.

What are some of the things you like about the new For the Strength of Youth pamphlet?

I really like that they included the temple recommend interview questions in the pamphlet for each section (I can't remember if they were in the old one). It really helps me figure how a decision will effect me and how it will make me feel in god's presence. I think its nice to be able to review and ponder them.

"Head of Astrobiology is Dr. Frialio. I think I saw them somewhere around-"

Fetu was interrupted by an announcement over the loudspeaker.

"Elevator unit O4 is ready for boarding. All Hawai'iloa colonists and other registered personnel, please proceed to the boarding corridor."

"That's us," she said, standing up. Her four children made their way back to her and Makaula.

"I'll introduce you to the rest of my family later," she told Bennu. "We'd still love to meet your wife. But for now, let's get in the elevator."

"Alright then," Bennu said, standing. He was gathering his coat and briefcase when Shia joined entered the waiting room. She was always perfectly on time, never late, never early.

They both headed over to the elevator, and Bennu tried to figure out who Dr. Frialio was.
