He stood up, but instead of following Elsie, he approached a window, looking out at the ground rushing by.

Terrance watched her go, but was hesitant to move.

"But it's my fault that you're getting hurt. I don't know..."

"Don't say that. It is my fault."

"I'm sorry," Terrance said again, more quietly.

Terrance found himself feeling sick. His whole body still trembled slightly.

"It won't last that long. It's still better than trying to stay until I'm forced to leave or get killed."

"Because I need to. Because otherwise, I hurt people and they hurt me."

"It doesn't make me happy."

"I'm... sorry."

"Not right now. But eventually. I already told you that."

Terrance watched too, and a part of him understood.

"You're terrified," Terrance said simply. It was not a question.

"I can hear you."

"Better than waiting for it to happen on its own."

Terrance glanced at her, meeting her eyes for a moment, as though the terror was a reminder.

"You've seen what I am. I bring terror and dread."

"I'm a monster."

"I... don't need that."

He didn't say anything.

Eventually, she found Elsie and Terrance in a [presumably empty?] section of the train further down. Terrance was sitting on the floor, sobbing.
