He lunged forward and grabbed her, pulling her away from the edge before hastily letting go. "Well, I think you got here first."

He came into view in front of her, much as he had when becoming visible on the train.

"Why... are we here? What's happening?"

"What's happening? You're afraid."

"Elsie?" His voice was audible to her.

Her terror began to pull Terrance toward her dream. He heard her. Elsie?
-
Terrance did not yet dream.
-
Terrance was still exhausted. Sitting still, listening to her breathing and the bumps of the train, he fell asleep before he could stop himself.

He flinched at the contact, but didn't fully pull away so she didn't lose support and fall.

Terrance did nothing. He was decent enough at that.

"Safe." Terrance shook his head.

"You didn't snap."

"What I said made it worse."

"I'm sorry."

"Well, now you'll know you haven't."

"You'll probably get better at controlling that eventually."

He carefully did not look back at her, lest he worsen the situation.

"Hi."

And then Terrance sat down and waited, unsure what else to do.

"You just need some time to get a little less overwhelmed, and you should go back to normal."

He felt her terror. "Elsie? Elsie, it's okay."

Terrance continued, not able to hear her outburst. "It's okay. It can happen sometimes when emotions get too strong, and you need to hide."

Terrance thought for a moment, and then he knew. He knew because it was exactly what he had done just minutes ago. "Elsie, I can't see you."

"Elsie?" He looked around, worried and confused.

Eventually, Terrance returned to their car. "Where's Elsie?" he asked as soon as he entered, noting her apparent absence.
