  1. [I can do that,] Haly mentally volunteered. [What sort of distraction?]
  2. "A metaphor," Sykel replied. "Never mind."
  3. “I was not aware.” She sighed. “I miss the smoke.”
  4. She shrugged one shoulder. “Honestly, nobody here strikes me as the ‘subtle’ type. So… nope.”
  5. Sykel replied absently to Lerac, more focused on the enemy horde up ahead. “Something powerful. Something deadly—a perfect assassin.”
  6. A pumpernickel jackhammer.
  7. A chipmunk was long dead and roasted. Hopefully someone would eat it.
  8. Cute kitty!!!! Always a strong choice. 8/10
  9. Sykel grabbed her sword and Haly her dagger. Both felt too vulnerable.
  10. Enough to drown in. Exactly 30,00Q mixed with UVsquared. A tower with stairs made of crystal and shattering and I shattering and full of random junk and movies play on the walls and when I’m sad the light dims and turns melancholy and anyone who goes in there goes insane from the sheer force of me
  11. “Not everything,” she corrected. “But a lot of things, I guess.” She sighed as she tied on the blindfold. “I wish I had dark glasses or something.” Eej silently noted this to himself and led her into the room.
  12. “We just need some time. If she can draw out a courtship, even a pretend one, we can figure something out. There have been some… shifts in the balance lately, and we need an alliance now. An alliance…” Sykel looked away. “Or something else.”
  13. "She will balance them as she finds necessary."
  14. "A room is fine," Kealie agreed cheerily. "Let's do that one, right up there, on the left with the golden trim."
  15. She shrugged. "She'll make her own choice. I have faith in her morals."
  16. Kealie followed. "Really? I thought she was nice. I'm going to take off my blindfold for a while." She did so, then slipped it into her bag. "It was really yummy toast," she muttered.
  17. She narrowed her eyes. "Watch your step," her voice whispered, with the hint of a hiss. "This place is dangerous." With a wave of her hand, a bridge appeared above the floor before their feet. "The ground has blood. Don't let it taste yours." Then she drifted away through the wall.
  18. Sykel growled. Nineteen in two months, actually. Force her? Ridiculous. It's just a test. Cjehu is so much better at these things than I am.
  19. She clenched her teeth. “No. Will you quit pestering me for half a second?”
  20. “I’m reducing her stress until TAAron’s better. If you tell her, I will mess with your mind in ways you didn’t know were possible.” A slight musical tone accompanied the words, conveying absolute truth with the threat.
  21. “Let’s just say I didn’t expect to get here and find she’s devoted her affections to TAAron.”
  22. Sykel took a deep breath. “Basilica is in some tenuous places politically. Particularly with the kingdom next door. We need an alliance, and we need it badly.” She paused, waiting for a reaction.
  23. Sykel turned on him, intensity shining from her eyes. “This is a secret.”
