  1. “Why not!” Haly tugged away and faced the Finn again.
  2. “Every single one died? How is that supposed to help anything?” Haly turned to the Finn. “You have my offer.”
  3. “I’m scared of what will happen if I keep Finding,” Haly said quietly. “It’s the best option.”
  4. “And what if I don’t? What then? Next time I might kill you all! It might… it might kill me.” She took a breath, trying to keep the tears down. “It’s uncontrollable. If you felt it you’d know. This is… I think this is the best thing for me right now.”
  5. “What!” Haly gasped. “But you’re our most powerful person!” She took a deep breath, trying to hold down the tidal wave of emotion before it became… something else. Then it clicked. “I should give away my Finding. It’s been nothing but trouble anyway,” she offered, trying to keep the quiver out of her voice.
  6. “If it’s nothing much, tell us!”
  7. “Tell us!” Hay was panicking. Just a little.
  8. Haly’s head snapped toward him. “What do you mean?”
  9. Haly stayed silent, as Wynn was probably right, and waited for Nameless to proffer the gem thing.
  10. Please please please do.
  11. “To fix his soul.” Haly grabbed TAArons shoulder with her free arm.
  12. “Ha! When Evalyn might spontaneously combust and take them all with her?” She looked out at the Finn, amused. “Very funny.”
  13. “For good reason,” Sykel snorted.
  14. She giggled through her tears. “I think we both feel how I do. But I guess I can’t stop you any more than you can stop me.” She took a deep breath to steady herself. “Just stay close to me so I can protect you.” “The chamber of bonds or whatever?”
  15. She shook her head hard and released him to lean back against the wall. “I’m sorry. I’m being selfish, I guess.” She sniffled and wiped away a tear, then looked around at the room.
  16. “No!” Haly twisted away and grabbed his shoulders. “You don’t get it. I love you, TAAron. And if you die, I don’t know if I could live with myself.” Her eyes were tearing up. “Please.”
  17. “Because of you die, then we can’t save you! That’s what this whole quest is about!”
  18. “Oh.” She thought. “I’d come save you. But you can’t save me.”
  19. “I don’t know. Turn into a wind chime. Hide in the wall. Or… burn it.” Her instincts recoiled from that, but something else eagerly approved.
  20. She looked down. “Please don’t. Please.”
  21. “Anything that could get you killed that could also be deemed as heroic.”
  22. “Okay.” She leaned against him again. “I’ll be fine in a bit, though. And you won’t do anything stupid, right? Promise me?”
  23. I’m scared for a friend. I live far away, so I can only text, and I know she’s struggling and suicidal, and I’m trying to help, but I don’t think it’s working and I’m so scared for her. I don’t know if anything I can say will help her. I’m afraid it’s only a matter of time, and I feel so helpless.
  24. She hesitated. The words warmed her heart a little. “It’s stupid if you do it. Not if it’s me, though, just so we’re clear.”
