    "Rylla? I'm glad..." Her face shifted. "I wonder what happened to her. Now that I can't... you know."

    She looked at him incredulously. "Refusing a decree means attention. My family will have a much better chance this way than if I broke the law."

    "Did you get into the palace okay? What was the king like? What was the palace like?"

    Her jaw tightened. "Sort of. It's a delicate balance, and if I'm not there, it'll upset soon enough."

    "It better not last more than a couple days." She bit her lip. "The less time I spend here, the better."

    She slipped off the cabinet. "Tell me more about your mission."

    She nodded and examined everyone around her suspiciously. "I wonder how long this game is going to go on."

    "The first room. The one with the food and fireplace."

    "Ummmmmm... how about both? Mostly the latter, probably." She reappeared atop a cabinet, tugging at her clip. "Chasms. Tangled my hair."

    "Ask you who you are, then give you food. If she sees me, it might get a little louder than that."

    "She. But yeah."

    She nodded solemnly. "I'm not one to accuse children, usually, but we definitely can't rule her out as a suspect. Who was still in the room when we heard the scream?"

    She slumped. "Well, that sounds fun and all, but my legs are still broken, and I don't imagine I'll be as useful hogging Eej."

    When Kealie saw the others, she urged Eej faster with her mind. "Hey! So what happened with the witch?"

    Abihal walked back in silently, then sidled up to everyone else. "What happened? With the girl and all that?"

    Haly helped herself to a lot of food, more than should have been able to fit in her bag. "I'm glad I have my clip, at least."

    “Exactly!” She pulled her invisibility pin out of her purse and slipped it into her hair, going invisible. “Grab whatever you want.”

    “Are you okay?” Abihal asked, exhibiting concern, but staying on her guard. “What happened?”
