    If you're part of the book, you can't read that book any more. If I'm being honest, our only chance is if they slip up--meaning we have to get them to attack us first.

    I don't know how much of this they'll be able to hear, but if we talk, they catch our every word. Anyway, our only chance is to get them involved, then get out of here. All we have to do is see them--it's probably best that we spit up--one point of view at a time and all, you know.

    Good. Mitis dug through her bag and frowned. "Wynn... I can't feel your soul through your Beacon. Not even a little. What's going on?"

    "You can't hear me?" Mitis asked. "What about you?" Can you hear me?

    Just think. I can hear any thoughts you try to send. Haly? TAAron? Wynn? I'm here, Haly thought. Jove and Essa affirmed similarly.

    He backed up a step. "I'm Jove. I'm with her." "He is," Essa sighed. "And he's right. We need to--" Mitis held up a hand. Can Everyone hear me?

    A boy around their age entered the alcove, looking nervous. "That's not going to work."

    "Because," she replied, gritting her teeth. Essa paled. "We don't have time for this right now." "Do you have the book?" "I..." Essa patted her pockets. "Yeah."

    "Here." Mitis entered one of the alcoves. Essa was sitting at a table, then turned to see them. "You're here. Good. Jove said you would be." She licked her lips and stood. "I didn't think they'd realize..."

    Marshmallows are awesome. Trauma is the most fun. Mix them and you have the most awesome fun!

    Mitis did not respond, instead briskly walking down one way along the wall with the alcoves.

    Her eyes flashed. "Stop pushing. We both need our strength." They made it to the stone wall, into which were cut wide openings into small alcoves. They had tables and chairs and a single bookshelf each. The ones they could see were empty.

    "You have no idea, buster. Shut up before I make you." They came to a branch-off, and at the end onf one of the branches, they could see the wall. "Yeah, but you did."

    "Nothing," Mitis replied through clenched teeth. "Because you asked Lerac."

    "Not telling." "Well, I think you did."
