  1. She hummed for a minute, then looked at TAAron. “Is that you?”
  2. She nodded. “I came from a bigger town on a bay. Lots of fish. Lots of crime, too.”
  3. She smiled brightly. “Cool!” Then she hurried toward the door.
  4. “Okay… we’ll, I’m hungry.”
  5. She smiled. “Nice to meet you. Where are you from?”
  6. Abihal turned to the woman and smiled. “Hi, I’m Abihal.”
  7. She had a bad feeling about this. “I want to do whatever you want to do.”
  8. “Oh. How… unfortunate.” She looked around, itching to throw something to make everything less boring. Dangerous feelings! Chill. She rubbed her necklace.
  9. She walked over. “I know. It’s fine, TAAron. Let’s go read in the library or something. Snitch food from the kitchens, maybe.”
  10. She shrugged, then took some of the smoked pheasant. “Works for me.”
  11. She looked at him strangely. “What happened?”
  12. “It’s fine. Really. Chasms know I’m not anxious enough.” She swung her bag back onto her shoulder. Kinda wanna see if it works. But also not really. It’s fine. “So what do we do now?”
  13. “Hmm? Why?” She turned, alarmed. “What do you mean?”
  14. Abihal looked wistfully at her flute for a moment more, then made her way over to the table where the other people were gathered. “What food is good?”
  15. “Thanks.” She attempted to flip it up with her foot, but it went under the dresser instead. She sighed and retrieved it, then grabbed a few things from the vanity. “Okay, I’m good.”
  16. “It’s fine, I just… makes me anxious.” She moved to her vanity and sifted through things. “To see a knife near you.”
  17. “Sure.” She glanced around the hall. Don’t want anyone else to hear, though… it’s fine. Nobody will notice. She pulled a rough wooden flute out from her bag, then brought it to her lips. The tune was mysterious, almost haunting.
  18. She nodded. “Ah. I play the flute, but just for myself.”
  19. “No, you’re right. You might need it in a fight.” She went through her closet, which had been re-stacked with frilly clothes. With a sigh, she pulled out another tunic and pair of leggings, then shoved those into her bag.
  20. Abihal watched with interest. “Do you play any instruments?”
  21. “If… if you think you should keep it.”
  22. “Oh, come on,” she complained, unable to stop grinning. “How can I not laugh at a penguin?” “This is Par. He said something about needing to think.”
  23. “Okay, keep it.” She opened the door to her room, low key panicking. Just trust him. It’s fine, just trust him.
  24. Abihal laughed and turned her whole attention to the penguin, then turned briefly to wave at the person over there.
