    She took his hand and nodded. “Where is he? Isn’t he in the underworld?”

    With a flash of light, they were dumped on a random hallway somewhere between the kitchens and the library.

    “Oh…” He frowned. “So she’s mad at her Author for responding to… never mind. So is it like… whenever I’m just in the background listening and thinking about random things, my Author isn’t paying attention to me?” “Yeah, sure… is that an okay answer?”

    “I’d like to know more.” He stared out at the reef. “D’you think Tam’s okay? Why did she leave?”

    Haly nodded. “All right. Envision it.” He lay hand on Haly’s shoulder and the other on TAAron’s. “Ready?”

    She blinked. “Uh… cuz they’re nice. And they’re nice to me? And they’re people?” Not wanting to be bothered or “not wanting to be bothered”?

    “Hi, Haly! Who’s this?” “This is TAAron. Hey, we were wondering if you could send us back to the clinic real fast.” He shrugged. “If you can envision it clearly.

    “Oh… of course…” She did so, vanishing. The smile dropped off her face a split second before that, revealing something tired and haggard. Bat sat down on the platform and watched her swim away. She was… really, really nice. He wondered if he was supposed to pray to his Author or something. He figured probably not, so he messed with the buckle on his satchel instead.

    He finished and came out, putting aside all his gear. He smiled brightly at TAAron. The family resemblance was clear, but his hair was darker than Haly’s by just a little bit.

    “Hmm.” He wondered what that meant, and glanced around for Gaioh again. He knew he was being kind of paranoid, but Bat really didn’t want Gaioh to die. Gail stared at her. “…I’m sorry, who?” Lady Bug appeared with bags under her eyes and frazzled hair. She Narrated all that away and flashed a huge smile. “Me! I believe you’re looking for me. Answer… answer…” she trailed off. “Hm? —Answer to what?”

    He looked down at his feet and smiled, blushing bashfully. “Me too.” He looked up at her. “So we’re from different Authors…? Huh. I couldn’t tell. Though I guess there wasn’t a reason to try.” Why was he babbling? He looked up at the sky and glared at his Author. But he couldn’t really be mad at his Author, because he existed.

    Weekly life update! Cuz imma start doing those! 

    This week was a really nice, relaxing week visiting family for me. I slept over at my friend’s house twice (we only see each other when I’m in town, really) and binge watched the first season of Arcane (oh my gosh just wow I can’t even wow). My grandparents have a super sweet kitty, and I got to pet him a lot :D 

    I also started something I’m calling my Crowdpleaser project, even though it’s not gonna make most of y’all completely happy and I’m not entirely sure any of you will read it— I’m including progress for it in my weekly updates anyway! I’ve started brainstorming it, and it’s going well, actually! Loads better than I would have expected. Very convoluted so far, though. And I’m not done and haven’t gotten to the end and ENDINGS ARE HARD. RAH. 

    I’m learning guitar! And I’m enjoying it even though I’m not very good yet! It’s still fun 😂 My mom got me lessons for Christmas so I won’t just have to freelance. 

    Our doggy survived our long absence :’) We hired someone to check up on her every day and spend some time with her, but she was still ecstatic when we got back. 

    I now have all five Stormlight books! I’m doing a reread before I start WaT (ikikik I’m behind scud u all for being speedy lil scuds), and I’m about halfway through the second right now. 

    Uhmmmmmmm… 

    I am currently living! :D

    He grinned hugely. “Are you kidding? This whole time I thought I was some kind of idiot fluke. But I’m intentional! I… I mean something to somebody. Enough for them to create me, at least.”

    “Woah.” Then he had a thought. “My Author… can hear all my— no, wait. My author knows all my thoughts because my thoughts come from my Author, and the Nullite doesn’t do anything…” He rubbed his temples. This was kind of dizzying.

    Bat tilted his head at the screen. “And you Narrators see all this?” He narrowed his eyes. “Huh. So I’m being written right now…? Everything I’m saying, and all my thoughts?”

    He stared, sighed, shook his head, and kept going.

    “Very.” She watched him finish hammering out the piece of metal. “Very close.”

    “Yeah, once every day-ish.” She knocked on the door and the masked figure inside glanced over, then held up a hand.

    They arrived after a couple minutes of walking. The smithy was long and low and somewhat dark. Clangs sounded from inside, and sparks could be seen through the windows.

    “He’s probably at the blacksmith’s. Just two streets away.” She tugged him in that direction.
