    He nodded. “They’re so placid.” Very placid. Completely unbothered by their presences. In fact, there was almost a pattern to the way they were swimming, a pattern with no variation. “Dragons in the ravine,” she decided. “Thatway.”

    “I… I was trying to get you back,” she whispered.

    She tilted her head, then tapped his shoulder with her tail fin. “It’s okay, Cadey. It’s okay.” Little fishies swam around in the water, indifferent to their approach. Bat sat next to the pond to watch.

    He brightened and started that way.

    Off to the left, a small pond coukd he seen glimmering in a glade.

    “I… might have made a tiny little deal.”

    He frowned at her. “Oh! I dunno. It… felt right, I guess.” Well, not right. Sticking his hand into a bunch of deadly bugs wasn’t right. It was just… he shrugged.

    He shuddered again. “They’re probably not gonna kill me.”

    Anyone else got parents who were popular back in high school? 

    It makes me feel like such an awful disappointment 

    Kinda wanna drive away on the highway and just vanish into oblivion

      my mom was like the talk of the town, especially among the boys

      SHE HAD LIKE TWELVE GUYS WHO WANTED TO BE HER BOYFRIEND AT ANY GIVEN TIME AND LIKE THREE OF THEM PROPOSED TO HER

      and my dad was pretty popular in college

      My parent's were pretty popular in high school too, especially my dad, and I'm definitely not.

      Being popular is boring, anyway. We have more pizazz 😉

    “Cricket!” she called, “You dumb, stupid idiot, come here.” She grabbed him and healed him. She omnommed happily. “Delicious! Thank you!” He brushed his hands off vigorously and shuddered. “Okay. Good.” He followed her.

    Great, he’d screwed everything up. Desperate, he grabbed her wrist again. “Wait, wait.” He grabbed a handful of bugs and held it up. “See?” He wasn’t sure quite what he was showing her.

    “No, it’s okay. It’s my fault. These ones… probably won’t kill you.” He eyes the bugs again. … yeah uh not weird at all She shook her head hard and nearly fell off of him.

    He blinked, then stood too. She’d flipped so quickly. “Tam, I… I was joking.” Mostly, he thought, eyeing the bugs. “I’m sorry.” She beamed and wrapped around his neck.

    He grabbed her wrist. “Tam! Don’t die!”

    “Yes! Don’t get them on you! You know how germy they are?”

    He grinned. They came across a lot crawling with little bugs.

    He shook his head. “No… it’s not all one thing. Life-ful is a better word. Well, not word, cuz it doesn’t exist.”

    She nodded, looking up at the ceiling.

    He noticed, turned, and smiled back. “It’s so nice out here. Quiet, but not lifeless. Life… full. Life-ful.”
