If asked, Eiro wouldn’t be able to tell you exactly how he’d gotten to Hiuren with Sorren. He remembered something about stables and fancy horses, but he didn’t know whose they were or whether they’d gotten them legally. He also remembered being tired. Which was probably why he overslept. 

 

“Ouch!” Eiro bolted up in bed, hair dripping, little chunks of ice swimming in the puddles that were slowly soaking into his bedsheets. Thale stood above him, fully dressed, holding a bucket that Eiro would have bet had been full of ice water just a minute ago. His hands curled into fists. 

 

“Sorren said to wake you up,” Thale said, tossing the bucket over his shoulder onto his bed. 

 

“You know this isn’t what she meant.” Eiro got up off his bed and dried his sopping hair on Thale’s blankets. “She meant nicely. Singing or something. Don’t you know how to sing?”

 

Thale rolled his eyes and pointed to a towel draped across the end of Eiro’s bed, which he grabbed. “Eiro, I doubt either of us would be caught dead trying to sing.”

 

“Nope,” Eiro agreed. “Your face would scrunch up and make you look ugly every time you tried. Even if you were the best singer in the world, you’d have to wear a mask.” 

 

“Aw, shuddup and let’s get going.”
