  1. I say 3 because at the larger signings its usually harder to get more than a couple of questions out there!
  2. I might be going to the Huntington Beach signing on 3/5. what are the top 3 questions I should pose to Brandon? the list on page 1 seems to be a bit out of date to me.
  3. We've been talking about the mixing of Forging and Feruchemy in this thread here and the regional/use of Sel magics on other worlds is under discussion there as well. A couple of thoughts on accessing the Dor and Devotion/Dominion: Those chosen as Elantrians seem to have been devoted to something before being taken by the Shaod (which is much like being snapped by the Mists now that I think about it. A mechanism set up by a Shard that continues to exist even when the Shard is no longer being Cognitively driven). i would say that Chayshan is of Devotion as well. Dakhor seems pretty obviously about Dominion over the body and others. Forging I'm not sure if that is more Dominion (making something into something else or something its not) or Devotion (getting an object to be the best of itself that it could have been/could be). While you're on Sel, I wonder really how "regional" the magic systems are. For AonDor, it seems like the Aon's work about as well in Teod as they do in Elantris pre-chasm line. So I wonder if they actually do weaken the further they are from Arelon or if that is just Raoden's perception in that one scene in Teod? I know that region defines how someone learns to access or is disposed to accessing the Dor, but I wonder if the amount of power is really relative to distance from their "home" region. As to Forging, could an Elantrian learn to Soulstamp? Would they have access to AonDor in a different soulstamped identity? Agh, brain hurts!
  4. Yeah, that is what I was bringing up. Based on his appearance in tWoK, either 1) his magic is working and he's using Aon Shao based magic to cover up his Elantrian nature: "Galladon, stunned, rose... his skin a dark metallic silver" OR 2) being so far from the regional base of his investiture (the Dor), has reverted him to a more normal looking human. His presence on Roshar doesn't indicate that Sel magic does or does not work, only that he is there. As to whether a soulstamp would work to store a different identity? Makes my brain hurt! It's hard enough speculating on how the magic systems are really working on their own world without trying to figure out how they interact when on others!
  5. Awesome! I can't find any information at crafty games website on this! Guess it's not really set in the AoL era though:
  6. We know that it probably works a little bit or we wouldn't see someone from Sel on Roshar, NOT looking like a glowing Elantrian. Unless being that far from Sel, sapped his Elantrian investiture to the point where he's no longer a divine looking figure with silvery skin?
  7. Oh, it probably is correct that it's Shallash. I believe. But until we get full blown confirmation it's still a theory!
  8. There was a similar topic here that might give you food for thought as well. I think it's pretty safe to say though, that its probably not this simple For Shai to use a soul stamp on herself, she had to have had the basics of the trainings and such for each identity/persona that she took on. For her Warrior personality, she had to live with that warlike tribe and train in their ways for a good amount of time.
  9. First of all, welcome to the 17thShard! We're told in Ch 64. So I think it's pretty clear that the "shshshs" is because of the Old Magic that Dalniar sought. There are other moments when it specifically states that Dalinar knows exactly what his Boon and his Curse are, but I don't know if we have exact words which say "the loss of his wife's memory was his curse from the Nightwatcher." I'm intrigued by the idea that it could be his boon... Either way, I don't think it likely that he was married to a Herald. Why would she pose as a "not very clever" brightlady? Plus you have the physical differences between what the Heralds look like and the Alethi... @Chlehrma we only have speculation that Baxil's mistress is Shallash. Highly likely, but still only theory!
  10. Well, and the associate implications of a larger gemheart... can store far more stormlight, which leads to more powerful/larger soulcasting, etc. which is where the real value comes in to play. Do we know what type of gem is generated in a gemheart? Are they emeralds? different per chasmfiend?
  11. Not that I know of... could be a fun question to ask BS on the upcoming WoR tour though! I would think that's not one that could be RAFO'd
  12. We know there are instances of animal/spren combinations. We know that spren are related to intelligence/Cognitive aspects. Even if the Shin don't have any spren (that we know about), the horses, once brought to the Highstorm area of Roshar could bond with spren in a random manner, thus producing semi-sentient horses. Even if these horses have gemhearts, which I doubt, there is no reason to think that a gemheart has anything to do with making a creature more intelligent than others/normal. Greatshells don't seem to be all that intelligent and they have massive gemhearts! They also have spren bonds, but I think they are going to be different spren than are bonding with the Rysadium
  13. I actually went back and re-read the Liar of Partinel chapters to see if it mentions a flute, but no luck. I'm guessing it's just a flute that he picked up and has carried with him for a very long time. maybe we'll see a nod to picking it up if Dragonsteel ever gets fully written...
  14. Another piece of that puzzle, we don't know if the highstorms generated/contained stormlight prior to Honor or their power relative to the ones we see in tWoK. Could be they were in existence prior to Honor, but Tanavast decided to harness those for his power. While he was around to control it they were powerful, but not out of control. Now that he's dead, maybe they are more powerful in the same way that the Dor is kind of out of control on Sel?
  15. So you're thinking the gemhearts are more like Atium than a Shardpool then? I like the idea, but not sure it'll pan out to be true. Atium was solid Ruin... but the stormlight in the gemheart is what powers soulcasting, not the gem itself...
  16. 1. We theorize that what we heard discussed about "Regrowth" was due to a Fabrial, there isn't confirmation of that yet. 2. If it is a Fabrial at work (which it probably is), it is un-recognizable to Dalinar, so it may or may not work in the same way as "modern" tWoK era Fabrials. EDIT: I do think the idea has some merit, but more as a contributing factor than the main cause. @Moogle - I'm not 100% sold that the higher orders of Spren are based on humanity's perception of them. Lesser spren, yes, we've seen that in action with the measuring interlude. Either way, the timing of the screams and giving up of the Blade/Plate seems too close to me to be based on other humans perceptions having any effect. Those in the Keep were bewildered and had no idea what was going on until the KR started taking their armor off and walking away. Plus the would have had to have timed their turning over the Blades and Plate to exactly coincide with the mass change or the tipping point in Greater Rosharian Perspective or the Windrunner wouldn't have been able to "fly" down to Feverstone keep Even then they still don't know or understand so it became a "betrayal", as that is the only way the rest of humanity can think of or explain away the event. I really don't think human perception really applies to these sentient spren.
  17. I'd have to go with Nalthis as well... only one where if you have enough money/influence/charisma/manipulation you can become "immortal" through the acquisition of more power in the magic system, at least so far that we've seen. The ability to determine hues and have perfect pitch wouldn't be too bad either! If I could ensure I had the sDNA, Allomancy would be my favorite magic system to play with that we've seen so far.
  18. That is a new thought... my gut leans towards no, but there may be some truth to this. Thought process of the Radiants could have been something like, "we asked you not to do this, yet you persisted anyway, so we're done here." My only problem with this idea, is that when the Recreance happened, the Nahel bond with the intelligent spren and KR was severed. That is what the ethereal screaming is theorized to be when they give up their Blades and Plate. I find it hard to imagine that KR severing those bonds is helpful or a useful protest against non-KR trapping Spren in Fabrials.
  19. This is a very interesting theory! I wonder if the location of other shards doesn't impact it as well? Much like an Atium misting or Mistborn burning Atium, you see all the possible actions and reactions of the other people around you. If someone else burns Atium, it causes a multiplicity of shadows which are impossible to interpret for either burner.
  20. Probably also suspicious because he is a Bridgeman at that point! Other than that, I think everyone else covered the differences...
  21. I always assumed that he was just using a poetic way to refer to Yolen in that passage...
  22. The Throne of Endless Pages Watch out for paper cuts... not as bad as the iron throne, but still nasty!
  23. There is a thread discussing Feruchemists as the best astronauts here I proposed in that one that the Basic Lashing Windrunners perform is really just alternating their spiritual connection from the ground to the wall, which is what maybe be the underlying basis for gravity in the cosmere. Not sure if that's right nor not, but this little interlude from WoR makes me think I'm on to something! WoR Spoiler:
  24. I don't want her to be unique... it'll be very hard to refound the knights radiant with only one true Windrunner around!
  25. Haha, that is awesome @Peter I can only imagine how ready you are for this to be released Peter so we can all stop talking about our anticipation and go dark while we read for a bit
