  1. I wonder if Navani is going to have a motherly chat with her about choosing the 'RIGHT' man... seems like she'd know something about that.
  2. this just seems to me like the classical Benfords's law- information is stored (in non randomized sytems) not linear but loagrithmic this means in any given text (e.g. wallstreet journal) you'll find numberes in the following distribution: 1:0.3 2:0.18 3:0.13 4:0.10 5:0.08 6:0.07 7:0.06 8:0.05 9:0.04
  3. do you really have to be broken to attract spren, or does it simply make it easier?
  4. I have to say that my favourite moment was when I was sure Syl wasn't dead, I was sooooo happy (I mean for 400-500 Pages I really wasn't sure). And then just this hugh landslide of glory following.... Well and of course the prophetic "Honor is dead"- uhhh shivers. And Of course Lopen glowing... Can you imagine his running commentary while he is killing voidbringers???
  5. I think we don't need to mark spoiler from today on in this board, but anway spoilers. It was a blast, ofcourse Kaladin was still fighting with his stuff. I mean his acceptance in tWoK of his responsibility lead to his attitude, besides ou may change your behavior in a flash and find that it's a good fit (Shallan) but not your attitude. And the stagnating hate, well it's annoying but this is how it must be. He had to fight with that, and I woundn't have had it any other way. I almost died as Syl went away, and I think I would have been so pissed if that stayed this way that I think wouldn't have read on after this book... but THEN. I think the climax was very well exectued. Shallan was awesome by the way
  6. yes I thought the same thing, I thought I'd read one part per day, well didn't work out that well. There was on point in the book at a little overe half way through where I said ah well now I just have toknow an read through the night.
  7. so I tried to do the bridgedesign again on blender. this Is how I imagined them. was really fun to make. The curve gives more stability, place for 40 bridge men, supportbeams, curve landingpoles to compensate for different plateauhights.

  13. Îs there a sample of the audiobook out there? I haven't found it yet.
  14. so I got mine 2 days ago too, unfortunately I had to choose between reading and studying for my theoretical physics exam, so naturally I read, and then screamed a little, cried a little, ate all of my fingernails, loughed and sobbed with the pure joy and glory and then I finished the book after savouring every last page. I have never had a book like this. thank you for enriching my life
  15. I will not burn down german bookstores, because I have to wait till the 13th. well I'm actually not that sure yet.
  16. I really don't think that this the prelude to a love triangle with renarin in the mix- way too obvious, and therefore not likely to happen, would be fun though.
  17. The hair is finally nice, away from Rambodin and Kalladin aka Prince Valiant. I love this, I'd buy the book only for this cover.
  18. I loved to see so many of my favourites, but one is still lacking in my eyes, not bcause it's according to my current taste, but because of what it did for me: Harry Potter, which was a christmas present in second grade, basically taught me to enjoy reading. It will allways be dear to me as my little doorway into the world of fantasy (please don't judge me ).
  19. first off if I remember correctly this is selfpublished so all those little quirks would have been polished away with a proper editor and for the rest it's an enjoyable series. The charcters are very likable and the story gives you enough respites. I'd say it does the same thing for me as Pratchett does, it simply cleans my pallet and makes me ready for heavier books. Worldbuilding is non-essential to this story so don't be scared off by dwarfs (I know I usually am too).
  20. Elayne Trakand from the WoT. Oh no wrong thread woops . But seriously: -Galladon (well of course,,,) non BS: -Kilvin (kingkiller) -Glokta (first law) -Mat (WoT) -Locke Lamora (G. Bastards) First thought about several charackters from ASoIaF, but realized that I don't really like them but rather just don't hate them like all the rest...
  21. I think the doors of stone (maybe the ones in the library) are the doors of death. In the story Skarpi (this storyteller-don't know how he's spelled), Lanre (heliax) is "called from beyond the doors of stone" (not an exact quote- but should be the geneal wording) after he dies in a battle. What I take from that is that we will learn why the 7 are immortal. does anyone have news conerning Book 3 (how many years we still have to wait)?
  22. Have you ever seen one of those magnificent open clockworks where you can see all the tiny pieces moving in harmony or sometimes even seeming in dysharmony, only to become harmonic yet again in a larger pattern. This is what it feels like for me reading the Way of Kings. You may examine any part and you'll sooner or later see how beautiful it is and that there is a reason for it's existance in that particullar place, you might not know what reason is, but you just know, you know....
  23. Maybe you are right, if team sanderson actually controlls the studios hand quiet strictly in matters of plot etc.. If you say that landscape can be as beautiful and detailed then I'm willing to concede this too, though I have never seen it beeing done in the detail required since most anime is mostly dialogue and action based. But if the scenes are actually made in the detail that is needed... Manly man: . Well something in comic or anime style never looks as if it's gonna put bamboo shoots under your fingernails, and this problem is especially big in anime which is why they often tend to overstylize the characters (muscles, scars, etc), I mean imagine in anime style: Bruce Willis lighting a plane on fire and saying: "yippeekayay....", just doesn't compare. My conclusion: If you have a creativ anime production team that doesn't just want to make another cheap unimaginative production, but is aware how delicate the world of roshar is and how much attention it deserves and is willing to give great thought to the visualization of the magic system, then you really have something. This of course requires the direct supervision of the plot and dialogues (there can NOT be those typical hour long dialogues within a fight). Oh and most important it seriously needs to be dubbed, I don't think anyone can take Kal seriously whilst talking in a Japanese-boyish voice. If this is met I'd love to watch it, but I'd hate to see a butchery made out of this. I guess that's also the reason why this topic is so hottly discussed, nobody wants this masterpiece to be blemished. I know that it's virtually impossible that SA will be produced on TV with the budget that would do it justice... P.S. No offence was taken, I just really love a nice heated discussion- how else am I gonna know if the point where I'm standing is even valid (sorry if I come on too strongly with my point of view)
  24. Well I can see that, it would be quiet cost effective to animate it, but again there are fundamental differences between books and anime. Figures: E.g. I allways pictured Kal and Dalinar as real men and with that I mean "eating rusty screwes for breakfast- men" , and thats just something that isn't possible in anime (the fundamental style disallows that, or at least not to the extend I'd want). Landscape: Awe inspiering landscape in anime- no I'm sorry but that's just not possible (although if michael whelan drew those as he did the cover I'd have to concede this point - but then again it's not anime). The advantage you have in anime regarding this is best reflected in movies Howl' moving castle: the colourfulness and the bright highlights, etc. . Roshar (or I should say the predominent regions at this point) is mostly drab, the plants are undestinct form the rest of the landscape, you can't achieve the real effect, since you would need high resolution (never been a part of anime). Effects: It would quiet possibly be the same effects used in other anime- you know what i mean lightning, aura, etc.: Eg: Kal's glowing, I allways imagined it as if his flesh was glowing but the skin was layerd ontop of the glow. In anime there can never be finess like that. Those are just some of the things I would expect an why I think anime is not the fitting media. Anime is great for the colorful, bizzare and one on one fight scenes with loads of inner monologue and smack-talk, but I disagree that it fits here.
