  1. SA2, chapter 82: The battle in the rain continues, and now Kaladin has to fight two full Shardbearers while he's injured without Stormlight - and one of them is Moash! This is going to be a mess! Maybe Syl will come to him in the last minute. Chapter 83: Now it's Adolin's turn to fight Eshonai. Shallan gets closer to finding the gate, and Dalinar gets called Son of Honor like Kaladin. Moash and Kaladin fail to convince one another, and now it looks like they're going to fight. 84: The Shardblade fit into the keyhole that Shallan found! OMG Szeth is on the Shattered Plains among the battling characters, aaaahhh!!!! A good thing, though, because there aren't that many chapters left! As expected, Syl returned to Kaladin in the nick of time after he said the Third Ideal, and... turned into a Shardblade?? But I thought she hated Shards! Turns out Graves is on Taravangian's team. In fact, my theory is that he and his little group are actually the Ghostbloods! Maybe? Anyway, now Kaladin had better put Elhokar somewhere safe real quick and head toward Dalinar at terminal velocity if you know what I mean...
  2. Oh, yeah, we need to see how Shallan came upon her Shardblade! (Not sure if this is what we find in the epilogue, but it's the thing I forgot). Aw, thank you! I'm honored to be your disruption. SA2, chapter 81: So this was a chapter about everyone: Dalinar, Adolin, Kaladin, and Shallan. Loved Dalinar's speech! Loved the other scholars finding out about Pattern! I'm looking forward to Kaladin meeting pattern Somehow didn't fully realize Kaladin was still debating about Elhokar, but now he's finally done debating, he's going to save Elhokar. Go, Kaladin, go!
  3. I didn't even think about the king's Blade. Is Elhokar bonded to his Blade? I find it weird that Elhokar can make his Blade stay and Adolin can't. I don't understand how throwing it is different. Correct, Dalinar bonded Taln's Blade. Taln is supposedly a Herald, so he would have an Honorblade. Shallan's Blade had those glowing designs that Kaladin noticed in the chasms that he noted weren't present on other Blades, and it shrank in size for Shallan to cut the rocks for their shelter, which I thought might also be something special. SA2, chapter 80: Do we know for sure that what Elhokar was seeing in mirrors and corners was cryptics? Does this mean he'll become a Lightweaver? Because that would be really weird. I'm glad things are about to start moving, because it feels like this book has so much to cram into its final stretch! A resolution to the Moash thread, Kaladin getting his powers back, Szeth vs Kaladin rematch, Dalinar and Adolin finding out about Kaladin's powers, the battle against the Parshendi, and Shallan finding Urithiru. Did I miss anything else? Probably.
  4. Ah, I see what you mean. So then Kaladin might not have given Moash the Shards? SA2, chapter 78: Ahh, Shallan told Dalinar about her powers!! And Rlain is back! Exciting! Chapter 79: I like Rlain. And having some human-Parshendi friendships will be good for this world.
  5. Dalinar was "sick" during Kaladin's time in jail. In other words, Dalinar was bonding the Blade while Kaladin was in jail. As Dalinar explained, he only hid the Blade after he bonded it. Hiding the Blade and telling Amaram about it was his "investigation". Which means Dalinar only started investigating after Kaladin had gone to jail for challenging Amaram, so I'm not sure what could have been avoided. Yes, I get it, but this doesn't seem "smart." The whole idea of locking him away when he's smart doesn't work for me. Either his ideas are smart, or they're not. I'm not talking about bonding it. I'm talking about how after it was bonded, Dalinar hid it so Amaram could find it (the "treasure"). Dalinar did this so he could summon it back, as he did in the scene we saw. During all the time when the Blade was hidden, it was away from Dalinar and didn't turn to smoke. Why was Dalinar able to do that while Adolin couldn't even throw his Blade a few feet? SA2, chapter 77: Yikes, Shallan was taken by Kaladin just as much as - if not more than - Kaladin was taken by Shallan. This is going to complicate things. I'm glad to see Kaladin is fully against what Moash is doing now, although I hate that he feels like there's nothing he can do about it (even if I understand why he feels this way, and the Weeping isn't helping his mood). Sometimes it frustrates me how Kaladin is always on the edge of not acting, considering how capable he is. So I believe there are 3 Honorblades in play now belonging to Szeth, Dalinar, and Shallan.
  6. SA2, chapter 76: Dalinar came to his senses about Amaram, Kaladin came to his senses about Moash, and Aladar came to his senses as an added bonus. Nice chapter. Wait, so why could Dalinar hide a bonded Blade for days while Alodin couldn't even throw his? My rep says I'm an Originator. I wonder what that is.
  7. I think you meant to say "Don't flatter Elhokar's wife", since apparently I called Elhokar what he was - useless - but called his wife something better than what she is. SA2, interlude 14: Wow, Taravangian has a weird definition of intelligence. I understand that part of his curse is to lose his compassion on days when he's smarter, but talking the dumb half of the city into committing suicide is dumb any way you look at it. On the one hand it's dumb to think it can be pulled off; on the other hand it's dumb to think it's a good idea when your main goal is world domination (or whatever he's going for) via making everyone like you. Killing half the city would put a dent in the plan to make people like him, so why would he think it's a good idea on a day when he's supposedly smart? All this said, I absolutely loved the Diagram idea. It's a super cool villain backstory, and also just super cool in general. So, um, in what book do we meet this horrid Nightwatcher? I hate her; don't know why so many characters seek her. And yes, I understand a little more about Szeth now. As soon as he confirms Kaladin (or someone else!) has bonded with a spren, he will stop obeying orders... (at which point madness might claim him. Either way, I can't wait to read about it!) Part 5 let's gooooooooooooo What chapter would you say is the start of the Sanderlanche?
  8. SA2, interlude 12, Lhan: Of course Elhokar's wife is as useless as he is... Interlude 13, Eshonai: Things are heating up!
  9. Ah, thanks everyone for explaining. Yes, understanding that it's the spren makes it a lot better. My issue was mostly that the source of the rules wasn't clear to me. People's morals tend to vary based on personal opinions, and having a power that worked or didn't work depending on something that's an opinion begged the question whose opinion it was and why did that entity have a say, and what if they weren't right? But I guess I should think about it like a contract, a partnership. If Kaladin starts behaving in ways that Syl doesn't get along with, she's going to drift away and so will his powers. Hm, there are several directions from which I could answer this question. One of them (and let me know if this answers your question sufficiently) is that I didn't want an outside force - even Syl - to barge in and punish Kaladin for conspiring with Moash. I wanted Kaladin himself to realize it was wrong. I mean, I wanted Kaladin to not do it in the first place. He could have given the Shards to Teft. I understand Kaladin was pissed at being in jail, but that just isn't going to change the fact that now I like him less. Ironically, I respect Moash more than Kaladin. At least Moash is doing it for revenge. Kaladin is trying to play God, deciding who to kill "for the good of the kingdom". Aw, thank you! You made my day! SA2, chapter 75: Lovely scene of Dalinar finding out that Kaladin lived. We never found out if Kaladin and Shallan talked about Surgebinding on their way back (Kaladin hinted that he might confront her about it), so I'm going to assume they didn't. And now... what do you mean it's the end of part 4? Didn't I just start part 4? Wow, I must have read that really fast. In book 1, the climax was in part 4 while part 5 was more like a set of epilogues. This time the climax is going to happen in part 5. The whole sequence of Kaladin and Shallan in the chasms was a lot of fun, even though I hate Kaladin losing his powers. Confession time. I probably wouldn't have finished WoK if I hadn't decided to "blog" about it here, so I have you all to thank. So much of WoR so far has been great!
  10. SA2, chapter 71: Yaas, Shallan summoned her Blade; secret #1 is OUT! Let's gooooo! I know, I spend months reading a chapter every other week, then read ten chapters in a day. Chapter 72: They defeated the chasmfiend and the storm hit! What do you mean the next chapter is about Shallan's past? Nooooo, I need to hear what happens next! Chapter 73, Shallan's past: and Shallan kills her father. Somehow I expected it to be with the Shardblade. I wonder how she gets that. 74, nice, Kaladin figured out Shallan is a surgebinder. Now he has to get his powers back!
  11. I won't, but that's fine. This is my personal preference. SA2, chapter 70: wow, Kaladin and Shallan walking through the chasms is taking its sweet time and nothing seems to happen. I want them to find out about each other's surgebinding already!
  12. I'll take your word for it. SA2, chapter 68, Kaladin: LOL this cracked me up, not even sure why. Okay, so the problem is Kaladin made two conflicting promises. That makes things a little better I guess, though I still don't like how Surgebinding doesn't work if you don't follow the right morals. I'm never going to like that. Glad to see all the main characters together again though - Kaladin, Shallan, Adolin, and Dalinar. And now someone's trying to throw Dalinar into the chasm; yikes! I'd better read the next chapter! Chapter 69: Very cool twist of events! Kaladin and Shallan are down in the chasms! Of course they could both survive the fall with Stormlight. I wonder if they'll end up finding out about each other! I hope Kaladin's warning led to Adolin saving Dalinar. Pretty cool how Kaladin keeps saving Dalinar over and over. Doing his job.
  13. Yes. Either that or he's bluffing, but I feel like that's giving him too much credit... SA2, chapter 67, Dalinar: Ugh, it's the start of part 4, and everything has slowed down again. I want the action back! Give me Kaladin! Surgebinding! Flying! Dalinar and Adolin finding out! Kaladin vs Szeth! Although now Kaladin is conspiring to commit murder, so do I still want to hear about him?
  14. SA2, chapter 65, Shallan's past: I wonder why Malise feels that Shallan deserves her father's wrath. I feel a lot like past Shallan today. The people in power never seem to realize how they're destroying the lives of people under their power, and some of us are broken beyond repair because of it... A couple things I forgot to mention: 1) One could technically argue that Alodin's one against four duel was actually a five against four. There was Adolin, Renarin, Kaladin, we know Pattern also helped, and since Kaladin used Surgebinding, you could technically argue that Syl helped too... 2) I liked how Kaladin thought that he'd actually be happy if Adolin became a Surgebinder. Chapter 66: Loved Adolin in this chapter! So nice to see Adolin and Kaladin starting to become friends. Adolin (1) went to prison as a gesture to Kaladin, (2) gave Kaladin Shards, and (3) believed Kaladin about Amaram (go Adolin!!). Meanwhile, Kaladin... did WHAT? No... Kaladin... I expected better from you... You don't just decide to kill a man because "it will be better for the world". That's not how it works! I assume Kaladin eventually comes to his senses, seeing as everyone in this forum still loves him. I just hope it's soon. Gosh, the characters in Stormlight are so stupid sometimes...
  15. SA2, chapter 63: Shallan's storyline is really interesting in this book; way more than in TWoK. And now she's trapped in a room with Taln when Amaram is about to walk in, yikes! Chapter 64: Kaladin managed to get some Stormlight, nice. And Shallan was offered a place with the Ghostbloods, yikes! I assume she can use lightweaving to fake their tattoo.
  16. SA2, chapter 62: Oh no, Kaladin is agreeing with Moash!
  17. SA2, chapter 60: Shallan learning to use her powers doesn't excite me as much as Kaladin learning to use his, partly because I like Kaladin more, partly because I like his powers more, and partly because right now I'm dying to find out what happens with him! My rep claims I'm a Svrakiss. I'm guessing that's something from Stormlight, with all the consonants smashed together? Chapter 61: Shallan's past continues to be depressing. Next chapter is Kaladin!
  18. SA2, chapter 59, Kaladin: The reason I don't like Wit so much is that he always seems to stall the plot in favor of dumb jokes and vague hints :/
  19. Long as they're coming, I guess... I'll probably grow to like her eventually, what with having her own novella and all. I know, right? OMG I cannot wait. Is it as great as book 1? We're gonna have the Kaladin/Szeth rematch, so it HAS to be... It was kind of cool! WoK lead us to a discussion about religion and it didn't turn ugly or anything, I'm proud of everyone here SA2, interlude 11: Oh my, Eshonai has transformed into quite the villain! I am very interested in hearing more about the group of listeners/parshendi who escaped into the chasms! Other thoughts about previous chapters/interludes: So both Dalinar and Lift have sought the old magic. We know what Dalinar lost (his memory), but not what he gained, and we know what Lift gained (the ability to turn her body's normal energy into Stormlight and "touch" the cognitive realm) but we don't know what she lost. Next chapter is about Kaladin yay!!!!!!! My rep says I'm a Shade. What book is that from?
  20. SA2, interlude 9, Lift: I am very confused why you were all saying this was a great interlude. It was VERY long, about a new character I don't yet care about while I'm dying to hear about the main characters, and nothing was particularly exciting about it. Sorry, I'm very hard to please. That being said... next interlude is about Szeth!!!!!!!!!!! Interlude 10: Szeth is in Urithiru??? And what does it all mean he's been killing for nothing? When do I finally get answers about him??
  21. I'll take your word for it. In the meantime, let me talk about Kaladin... Here is what I wish would happen, even though I don't think it will: Step one, Kaladin gets some spheres. He can ask to light up his cell, or maybe claim that technically he's still working for Dalinar (Dalinar made it clear that going to prison was an order), so he should still get paid. Alternately, he could have someone from Bridge Four fetch some for him and slide them through the bars. He then uses Surgebinding to break out (and Kaladin himself made it clear that he thinks he can). Preferably at night (more dramatic), he flies up and finds Dalinar alone on a high balcony or some such. When Dalinar is shocked and asks Kaladin how he got there, Kaladin tells Dalinar that he quits and says something like, "Find someone else to save your sons, and to protect you next time Szeth attacks, because you'd better believe next time someone who shouldn't be able to reach this balcony catches you here alone, it will be him." And then he can add, "Oh, and next time you appoint someone as leader of the Radiants, make sure he can at least surgebind." And then he flies off. Okay, that was just me having some fun, but for real, Kaladin should just quit his job at this point if he's fed up with the Lighteyes.
  22. Precisely. And if you're wondering if I'm the person or the fabrial, I'm the fabrial. Or not. SA2, chapter 57: Well, I was right about Kaladin using this to challenge Amaram. Too bad Elhokar is a total jerk. Hold on. I thought you meant Adolin was going to find out about Kaladin's surgebinding. But he didn't... at least as far as we know. Chapter 58: No! No! What do you mean it's the end of part 3? I need to hear more about Kaladin, not some other people in interludes!
  23. By the way, I'm disappointed in Dalinar for appointing Amaram leader of the Knights Radiant. For one, Kaladin warned him about Amaram, and for another, Amaram serves under Sadeas. Continuing to be Amaram's friend is one thing. But this is even stupider. SA2, chapter 56: Adolin fights against four opponents, then Renarin joins, bless him, then (to no one's surprise)... go Kaladin!!!!!!!! My theory is that after Kaladin wins this fight with Stormlight, instead of Adolin challenging Sadeas, Kaladin will get to challenge Amaram. The fact that Amaram is supposed to be leader of the Radiants makes it even more fitting, since Kaladin is about to demonstrate that he can actually surgebind while Amaram cannot. He can challenge Amaram for his position as leader of the Radiants as well as for retribution. Kaladin is about to pull a Szeth in front of absolutely everyone; I am here for it!!! My rep says I'm a Soulcaster. If you're wondering if I'm a person or a fabrial, I'm totally a fabrial
  24. Can't wait! Because of course he did. Okay, fair, she did do those things. SA2, chapter 55: Nice, Kaladin, Shallan, Adolin, and Wit all in the same scene! A lot of great comebacks there. Ugh, I hate how Syl is always questioning Kaladin's motives and goals. She seems to disapprove of every answer he gives her. Let the poor guy be!
  25. I hope you're right! SA2, chapter 53: I like how Adolin is completely OP in the dueling arena. Cannot for the life of me guess what Shallan's plan is. So... when do I get more Kaladin? Chapter 54: This cracked me up: Though the truth is, Pattern IS very helpful, way more than Syl who doesn't really do much... Kaladin's powers sound like way more fun though... Wow, Shallan is getting herself deeper into the mud. Though I kinda want her to pick up the spanreed now and write them "If you make another attempt on my life, I'll turn you in to the authorities"... Also - guys? This book is really good.
