  1. Just because I thought he wanted to return to Shinovar and tell his people they were wrong about surgebinders returning. How do you quote the book like that? Do you have the text online somewhere? Thank you! SA2½ chapter 17: Lift runs to the orphanage and gets her third meal there. She hears someone scream, but I'm guessing the old man she wanted to save isn't dead yet. I think she will manage to save him.
  2. Tress, and half of TFE. SA2½ chapter 16: Yes, thank you, the way Lift reacts to seeing people fly is the proper reaction. I would react like that too. Lift talked to Szeth!! I like how Lift calls the archive building a different name each time it's mentioned. So wait, why was Darkness able to resurrect Szeth if Skybreakers don't share the growth power? Is it because he's a herald? And why is Szeth following Darkness around? Didn't he want to go back to Shinovar and tell his people they were wrong? I'm not even sure why I like Szeth so much at this point. I just get super excited every time he shows up!
  3. SA2½ chapter 15: Wow, Szeth looked at Lift! So his new spren is a smoky sword? And what's up with that after image? And if all of Darkness' folks are Skybreakers, why is Szeth the only one who has an after image? So many questions. It's weird to suddenly not know anything about Szeth's powers.
  4. Thank you. <3 SA2½ chapter 14: Your Pancakefullness? Gosh, Lift's plan was pretty dumb. At least she got to try more pancake varieties, right? Hopefully now she has a real lead. Meanwhile, I'm still hoping we get to see Szeth again...
  5. Aw, thank you! The first thing I'm doing is trying to rent out my extra room, so if you guys happen to know of someone looking for a place to stay in Batavia NY, feel free to send them my way. Honestly I'm super nervous, because I listed the room online but I've never tried renting out to strangers before, and today someone came to look at it and now I'm freaking out, going through imposter syndrome and whatnot, . SA2½ chapter 13: That was a great chapter! Everyone was so shocked to find out Lift actually knows Gawx!
  6. SA2½ chapter 12: Lift wants Wyndle to read every single entry in the archive. Of course it turned out to be something ridiculous like that. But now she has a new plan, which sounds more fun (something about stealing fancy clothes to pretend she's a rich person). I'm looking forward to it. Meanwhile, we hear that Lift has met Hoid and it goes back to that part about him spending "the better part of a year inside of a large stomach". So of course Lift thinks he's dead. Maybe he'll make an appearance later on in this story? Meanwhile, I was fired from my job, so that's fun (not).
  7. Haha, yeah, I called it after reading chapters 29-30 iirc. Don't worry about it @Trutharchivist, I'm honored to be worthy of memes. There were definitely many cosmere references in that book. I guess one that caught my attention was (Tress): SA2½ chapter 11: Kaladin and Shallan had to do so much guessing and it took Syl and Pattern a while to really be able to talk and remember what bonding was about... and meanwhile Lift is already at the stage when her spren can guide her along, yet she refuses to listen... I'm wondering if I'll ever start liking her character. Anyway, I wonder what Lift wants with these archives? To burn them down? To find information about surgebinders and destroy it before Darkness' group can find it? To find something she can trade? (Knowing her, probably not that last one...)
  8. I remembered that Darkness saved Szeth after his battle with Kaladin and recruited him, but I completely forgot that it was revealed back then that he was a herald. Oh well. Tress was nice. My favorite part was probably the final illustration Back when the samples were revealed, SP1 was my 3rd favorite, and I have a feeling things will stay that way after I read all four books. SA2½ chapter 10: Lift trying to figure out the purpose of her life, and meanwhile I'm here knowing exactly what I want to do but having no idea how to accomplish it... I'm curious to hear more about the Nightwatcher and it it can be that everyone gets what they request from her but Lift didn't (maybe Lift was given a different meaning of her words than what she'd meant to request?)
  9. SA2½ chapter 9: Darkness is a herald?! Not sure why you thought I should know this before this chapter where it was revealed. I had no idea, so if there were hints, I completely missed them. Yay Szeth!!!! I like that Szeth argued with Darkness. I continue to like him. I hope we hear lots more about him. By the way, I finished Tress! So now I've read 3 complete cosmere books.
  10. For now just the kickstarter ones as they come out. Wait, she can't use Stormlight? I sorta just assumed that all surgebinders could... Yeah, I just wish she stopped lying to Wyndle and just gave him straight answers. Aw, thank you so much!! SA2½ chapter 8: Ooh, Lift finds a building with other people dressed like Darkness! Is this his headquarters? Also, three kinds of pancakes, yum, I want to eat them too: salty, sweet, and fluffy. I wonder if that girl Darkness killed was also a surgebinder, or if he also doesn't mind just randomly killing regular humans, I guess just for kicks? I liked how Lift used the opportunity to snag some fruit knowing the shopkeeper wouldn't stop her right after witnessing the other thief get killed.
  11. Which easy road are you referring to? The references seem minor and if anything make the book more intriguing. I ditched TFE because the middle was dragging a little and bored me, but I intend to pick it up again after I finish SA4 (or 5 if it's out by then). Unless my life magically becomes too busy all of a sudden, I'm totally planning on doing that. SA2½ chapter 7: Ah, we finally find out what this novella is going to be about. Before this chapter it was all just seemingly random scenes of Lift running around. I hope she can defeat Darkness once and for all. It seems like perhaps Darkness is starting to catch on to the fact that Lift doesn't need Stomrlight to surgebind. I'm looking forward to Lift finding out that she can use Stormlight. (More options are always good, right?)
  12. SA2½ chapter 6: My guess is that Lift will end up using her powers to heal that boy who stares into space whom she saw dropped off at the orphanage. By the way, I want to keep you updated on all my cosmere reading. I've mentioned before that I'd gotten 70% through TFE. Turns out I was wrong and it was only 50%. Either way, I'll have to reread that at some point. I'm currently 80% through Tress, reading along with @Trutharchivist's SP reading group (you all should join too!).
  13. SA2½ chapter 5: I like how Lift runs away from places and doesn't want anyone to get to know her too well. I can sadly identify with her on that. My guess is that by the end of her novella this will change; she'll find a place where she won't mind staying, and people whom she'll want to stay around.
  14. SA2½ chapter 4: Lift wants to trade a log book for food, but she *could* have kept those spheres and traded them for food...
  15. Not yet. I actually liked the mockup more :/ SA2½, chapter 3: That scene with the cart was fun. Lift can just run rings around all the adults with her surgebinding. Seriously, this book should come with pancake recipes.
  16. This makes me happy for some reason Funny you should ask... SA2½, chapter 2: So Lift ditched her spheres, gosh, this girl is something. I'm still trying to figure out how she's going to fit into the general SA story. Sounds like we're about to have another run-in with Darkness, so that's something to look forward to. Also, those pancakes do sound pretty yummy. In case you all wanna gaze at my exposed safehand, Tress came in the mail:
  17. I do? I don't know anyone who practices exclusivity in reading... I'm notorious for getting bored with books and DNFing them. I once DNF'd a book at 90% because I got pissed with the way the climax was being executed. I might return to MB after SA. To celebrate finishing book 2/starting book 2½, I'll talk for a second about my own writing. I finished the first draft of a script for a YouTube show I'm doing with my friends! Okay, back to SA. Life happened and I didn't end up getting to the other books I was trying to finish, picked up ED anyway. I think I'll just do a chapter a week for a while, which isn't that different from what I did for some of the time anyway. SA2½, chapter 1 reaction: I like the reason Lift decided to leave Azimir, feeling like she would no longer be herself if she stayed. I want to say something general about edgedancers though: if I could eliminate friction while my friend the windrunner could fly, I'd be really pissed.
  18. Words of Radiance final thoughts: This book was a lot of fun! Both Kaladin and Shallan really learned to use their surgebinding powers in this book, which was very satisfying to read about. I also enjoyed Shallan's journey to infiltrate the Ghostbloods. Shallan went through quite the transformation in this book, starting off trying to imitate Jasnah and finally really coming into her own. Kaladin and Szeth's first encounter was great! Kaladin and Shallan in the chasms was great! I also liked the disadvantaged duel. The climax was definitely epic, though interestingly, my favorite part of the climax was... Dalinar's speech? I wasn't left in awe by the climax like I was in book 1. In book 1, there were two plot twists that I didn't see coming: Sadeas betraying Dalinar and Dalinar trading his blade for the bridgemen. In book 2 I knew the Parshendi storm was coming. I knew Shallan was looking for a portal. I knew Kaladin was going to fight Szeth. As soon as Sadeas betrayed Dalinar in book 1, I expected Kaladin and his team to save Dalinar, but it was very satisfying, because the betrayal was an unexpected twist, and the expectation for Kaladin to save Dalinar was only build over a few chapters. Szeth vs Kaladin is something I've been waiting for for two whole books, so while it was satisfying to finally get it, it didn't feel as groundbreaking. All this being said, wrapping up a two-book plot is exponentially harder than wrapping up a one-book plot. I think this was a good book, all things considered, and I look forward to reading about Kaladin meeting his parents again in book 3. I will! Though I might take a small break first. Trying to finish some other books.
  19. Honestly, I'm just happy I won't have to read about Sadeas anymore in future books. SA2, epilogue: Surprise surprise, the character on the cover of book 3 is not dead! Guess now we also have an Elsecaller, whatever that is. I don't like Wit. Unpopular preference I guess. Or maybe he's more fun in other books. That's it! Finished Words of Radiance! I will write overall impressions probably tomorrow. My rep says I'm a Spinner. I wonder what I spin...
  20. I haven't. SA2, chapter 89, last chapter: WTF... Alodin just randomly killed Sadeas. Like, that was the most random murder ever... I'm still laughing when I think about it. Dang. Dalinar bonded with the Stormfather!! Another WTF. Now we have Windrunner (Kaladin), Lightweaver (Shallan), Bondsmith (Dalinar), Truthwatcher (Renarin), Skybreaker (Szeth), and Edgedancer (Lift). Four more left I guess. Now Kaladin is going home to his parents! Ah! Exciting! Except he also has to tell them how he failed to protect Tien... Next up is the epilogue. Gosh, I waited the entire book for Syl and Pattern to meet and it never happened.
  21. SA2, chapter 88: After all of Shallan's efforts to infiltrate the Ghostbloods, they figured her out. Shallan killed her mother too?! Or was it really Pattern, appearing in her hand to save her? Finally we see the man who hunted Lift resurrecting Szeth/saving Szeth from the brink of death. So... was Szeth just given a spren sword?
  22. I kinda assumed they were something else, since they were after Hoid. Kaladin and Szeth's fight was fun. I have to say I wasn't blown away by it, because everything about the climax so far has been so expected, I've practically been waiting for it the entire book. So yes, it was very satisfying to finally get it, but I also wasn't as excited as I might have been. I always thought Everstorm would mean a perpetual storm that never ends/passes. I'm confused as to why this storm blowing eastward is called an everstorm. Voidbringers are back? Who are they? Dalinar thought they were the Parshendi in stormform. Shallan and Jasnah thought they were parshmen. Which is it? And what is a desolation exactly? It's okay, Kaladin basically asks Syl about the Shardblades being dead spren in the next chapter. SA2, chapter 87: So wait, if Blades are dead spren, what does that make Plate? Let's talk about Rlain. I really like that Bridge Four has a Parshendi member, but when I thought he was a parshman, I was getting excited to see his development, thinking we would learn something about the parshmen. Turns out he was parshendi all along... The parshendi that fled into the chasms are the other loose thread I want to hear about, but that might only come in book 3. Now absolutely everyone knows about Shallan being a surgebinder, and Kaladin straight out flew in front of everyone, and not during the confusion of battle, either. It's official then, he's done hiding, yay!! This is what I was waiting for. I loved how upset he was at the prospect of becoming a Lighteyes. Deal with it, Kaladin! I wonder if it's Kaladin saying the 3rd ideal that prompted all of Bridge Four to suddenly become surgebinders. It doesn't look like they have spren either (unless the spren are just about to show themselves?) I wonder if rather than bonding with spren, Kaladin's powers somehow extend to them. Lopen is going to grow his arm back using Stormlight? Nice!!!! This only makes me more confused as to why Kaladin's brand hasn't disappeared. Why is Lopen referred to as "the Lopen" repeatedly by the narrator?
  23. Thank you everyone! There are four?! Oh my. Oh, storms, no. My 20s were so torturous that I don't even want to pretend I'm still in them. I hope all of you will have/had/are having much better 20s than mine. It's Renarin, but I'm very confused on the why. SA2, chapter 86: Wow, a lot happened in this chapter! A bunch of people ended up finding out about Shallan, including Adolin! Those scenes were so much fun! I loved when Adolin asked her if she could fly and Shallan was very confused. So wait, all the Shardblades besides Kaladin's and Shallan's are dead spren?? It sounds like Shallan was bonded with Pattern way before she started seeing the cryptics in book 1 and seeing Pattern himself at the beginning of book 2. I'm so confused about this, which seems unfair, considering this was the book with Shallan's flashbacks. Kaladin and Szeth had an epic fight over the clouds! In the end Szeth lost his Lashing ability, fell from great height, into a highstorm, and Kaladin still isn't sure Szeth is dead? Personally, I'm very curious to find out how he survives that, because I totally cannot see it. Szeth claims he was never truly Truthless and could have avoided all the murders... I'm still not sure what this means, so I hope we find out a lot more in the coming books. Things seemed to have really shifted in this book. The war with the Parshendi is over? Szeth is no longer killing... What's book 3 going to be about??? I bet Kaladin will become the leader of the new Knights Radiant. My rep says I'm Wyrn the King. I wonder who that is...
  24. It is past midnight; happy birthday. I am 32 in case you were wondering. I need to sleep badly so I will read about Kaladin vs Szeth in the morning, or, you know, later in the day. Nice birthday gift
  25. Okay, so the Diagram and the Ghostbloods are two different groups. I wonder if they're working together or against each other. Amaram clearly doesn't belong to the Ghostbloods, seeing as they were spying on him, so maybe he belongs to the Diagram? Unless there's a third group. If Amaram *does* belong to the Diagram, does that mean Helaran is part of the Ghostbloods? Or do we already know this? Never mind. More exciting things at the moment. SA2, chapter 85: This bit from the Diagram: But who is the wanderer, the wild piece [...] - is that about Hoid?? This cracked me up: "Rats had a better chance fighting a chasmfiend." Dalinar, Adolin, and the bridgemen fight Szeth! I liked the part where Dalinar realizes he couldn't have saved Gavilar even if he hadn't been drunk. And then Kaladin shows up! Yay Kaladin! And now for the rematch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
