Bonding cognitive shadows (again)
melaan enjoyer replied to melaan enjoyer's question in Cosmere Q&A
in hindsight i really should have left this in the original post but in my defence this is my first time seeing the wob, i’ve just heard the 17th shard guys talk about it on the podcast a lot lol but yeah!! that’s a good question— what would kelsier get out of it? is it like an sp3 thing or is it a power thing? -
Bonding cognitive shadows (again)
melaan enjoyer replied to melaan enjoyer's question in Cosmere Q&A
ohh man Kelsier bonded Szeth sounds like such a recipe for disaster YES. Hoid sounds fun also because he's more cosmere aware than Kelsier. On that note, I think someone like Jasnah would be interesting because that could create opportunities for the kind of situation where she and Kelsier have very different ideas about going around things but have to get the other to cooperate for anything to get done. I think Adolin is such an interesting suggestion because he's not as wise or as tempered as Jasnah, but still far less dangerous than someone like Szeth. I feel like with Adolin, he's definitely in a position where he could be influenced (corrupted) by Kelsier and his ideals, but could also possibly change Kelsier (ideally for the better) in a way the others may not necessarily be able to. thanks for your response! -
Hello all I am back with another question related to bonding cognitive shadows. This one is different though, because I was just interested, does anyone have any cognitive shadows you think would have very interesting consequences if bonded? For example if someone were to bond Kelsier, who would you want it to be? On that note, who would you reaaallllly not want it to be?

Can a cogniitve shadow bond spren the way humans can? Would it look slightly different or be the same or just not possible at all. Also, since we know you could technically bond Kelsier.... could a cognitive shadow bond a cognitive shadow?

sigzil!!!! sigzil!!!!!!! im definitely an action kinda guy, and the whole feeling of him being on the run and exploring new magic systems in a do or die kind of fast-paced series is way way way up my alley. so so so incredibly excited for the sunlit man! i genuinely cannot wait I love the worldbuilding of one and three, but three edges out one for me just on vibes alone. painter's world with the neon lights, the darkness and most importantly, Design (side note: DESIGN!!!!!!) hit all the right beats for me. Yumi's world with reminds me of children of the whales and the vibes there have the potential to be spectacular. i really love the idea of SP2, and so far has me really excited, so I would say SP1 and SP2 are about the same for me. Incredibly excited for all of them though! man, December 2023 just can't come fast enough. -
definitely hoping for a diary-style nazh perspective while he tries to figure out where khriss has abandoned him this time

Would you like to destroy some evil today?
melaan enjoyer replied to Lego Mistborn's topic in Introduce Yourself!
hey! fellow era 2 enjoyer! i just love the dynamics and the vibes of era 2 (also welcome -
let out a little squeal when design came on!! dude i love her also i love to imagine that (if being frozen in time was intentional and hoids doing and has something to do with him being very very old) hoid will go and meddle in the fate of the entire universe for a bit and then come back and sit in "his" noodle bar as gets treated as furniture

Linguistics of SP 3
melaan enjoyer replied to Precisa Disso's topic in Yumi and the Nightmare Painter
what stood out most to me was that hwanji and chaeyoung are distinctly korean names, and the "yun" sound in liyun is far more prevalent in korean than in japanese. i feel like yumi could work as either a japanese or korean name but because we started off with painter i initially presumed japanese influence. this then set off a few bells when the servant's names were introduced because i thought that the dynamic of the "korean" servants and the "japanese" princess was going to be an allusion to earth, which didn't feel very Brandon Sanderson -
my brain went into overdrive reading SP3. first of all i love design < 3 second of all: hoid??? frozen??? in time????? implications!!!! genuinely cant wait to read the whole book

cosmere related unscratchable itch
melaan enjoyer replied to melaan enjoyer's topic in Introduce Yourself!
the stormlight archive is really what turned my gentle descent into a free-falling nosedive, but i do have to give a special shoutout to mistborn era 2. I know a lot of people prefer era 1 but i just really love the dynamics of era 2 so much more. i just love the dynamic between steris, marasi, melaan, wax and wayne and everything they get up to (especially in Bands of Mourning). I think era 1 was a little heavy for my preferences? Like the stakes felt a lot higher, and i prefer the laid-back vibe of era 2 more. Also I like the characters a lot more, so it mostly boils down to personal preference. back to stormlight though! the magic system is insane but what really got me is the world-building and the characters. elantris was my first cosmere book, and the twist at the end with the aons blew my mind so much that I have read (to this date) thousands of pages of epic fantasy searching for more Sanderson. i really liked the vibes of warbreaker but i the magic systems on scadrial, sel and roshar just make a little more sense to me. also ive been waiting for the white sand omnibus to come out since i read the state of the sanderson 2021, but i only saw the indiegogo link three hours after it closed so </3 hoping to get it some other way. -
Hello all! quick intro: I read rithmatist when I was 9 and it instantly became my favourite book. It remained my favourite book until I started getting into the cosmere at around 15 and since then, I have always been a pretty big fan of his work. I have listened to hours of the 17th shard podcast, and lurk on the subreddit constantly, I've just never contributed much in either community. this all changed approximately 12 days ago. where I was once a pretty big fan, but not all that into the larger machinations of the cosmere, i now suffer from cosmere syndrome, a condition where i am constantly thinking about the cosmere and just about nothing else most waking hours. currently frothing, gnawing, chewing and biting everytime mr sanderson posts anything on youtube and i've been slowly but surely going insane as march progresses. I cannot understate how excited I am for the excerpts of books 3 and 4, and created a 17th shard account to finally get around to reading Aether of the Night i do want to be a more active member of the fandom and am also hoping to make some friends along the way : )
